Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Offering a Weapon to the Avenger_1

In the afternoon, in the medical room at the core area of the prison.

"Alright, Inmate 3271, you can come in now."

Upon hearing the voice from inside the medical room, a guard pushed Slyne, who had handcuffs on both hands, into the medical room.

"Please take a seat over here."

Greeting them inside was not the duty doctor of the medical room, but the necromancer Asenna, who had been entrusted by the warden.

Slyne was nearing the end of her term, and during this process, the grudge within her had grown increasingly dense, and her power, increasingly strong. Aiden had to take extra measures to seal her surging magic power. In Slyne’s final days, he had appointed Asenna to regularly check the seals on Slyne.

Facing Asenna, who had been granted certain permissions to cast spells, the guard escorting Slyne was still somewhat apprehensive, after all, the warden was not present.

Although everyone knew that this necromancer was one of the model inmates personally appointed by the warden to support the guards, she was still a red-alert level prisoner.

Fortunately, the guard immediately saw Veronica standing with arms crossed inside the medical room supervising the scene, which slightly eased his worries.

Nowadays, Veronica had essentially become the warden’s deputy secretary. Many tasks Aiden had to attend to personally in the past were now mostly delegated to Veronica.

Monitoring Asenna, who had been granted temporary permissions to cast spells, was something the other guards did not dare to do, but Veronica had the nerve to do so - because she was strong enough. She had swept through the entire medical room’s rioters single-handedly during a previous uprising, making a name for herself in one battle.

Seemingly noticing the guard’s unease, Veronica looked over and said to the guard, "I’ll keep an eye on things here; go wait by the door."

"Thank you." The guard nodded gratefully and retreated to close the door outside the medical room.

Asenna held her magic wand to Slyne’s forehead and began chanting softly. Soon, Slyne’s body twitched in the chair, her face forcibly lifted as if manipulated by invisible strings like a puppet.

A smoky spiritual body was forcefully pulled from her eyes, which flickered with a ghostly glow, gathering into a mass at the end of Asenna’s magic wand.

Seconds later, Asenna interrupted the spell. Slyne collapsed backward onto the chair, limbs limp as if she had exerted tremendous effort - Asenna had imposed the soul-binding curse on her while probing her spirit, to prevent her from resisting her work.

Asenna swung her magic wand towards a basin prepared in advance, flicking Slyne’s extracted spiritual body into the Magic Potion used for testing.

Instantly, the dye of darkness diffused into the colorless testing potion, and quickly the entire basin’s colorless liquid turned pitch black.

"In just a few days, the grudge has risen to this level; your resentment is indeed extraordinary," Asenna commented indifferently, "A ritual is needed to strengthen the seal."

"I’m begging you; I... I’m running out of time," Slyne pleaded weakly, her gaze towards Asenna filled with determination, "I just want to kill the murderer who beat my son to death..."

She had no knowledge of necromancy, but she could intuitively feel the changes in her own power and the premonition that her time was near.

Once Carmila was released from solitary confinement, the days left for her revenge were probably very few. The slight surge of strength in the "brief recovery" before the revenant corpse disappeared was her only chance and the only trump card she had to kill Carmila, who had Dragonkin blood.

But with the warden’s orders for Asenna to incessantly seal off her power, she wouldn’t even have the chance to grasp this one last card up her sleeve.

"I’m just following the warden’s orders, please don’t make this difficult for me." Asenna glanced at her briefly before flatly refusing her request.

"Veronica, could you give me a hand lifting, to make space on the bed for this side’s comatose patient? This guy is so heavy!" The prison medic, who was treating another prisoner in the corner, beckoned to Veronica.

Veronica looked at Slyne, who was completely powerless, convinced she couldn’t pull any tricks and responded to the medic, "Coming!"

"Actually, I need someone to assist with the ritual to complete it." Asenna suddenly interjected.

"I’ll go help over there first, then come back to assist you," Veronica replied succinctly.

Just then, Meiruki stepped out from the inner room, volunteering herself: "How about I help Asenna with the ritual instead? I’m familiar with black magic, and I’m more suited for this."

Due to her expertise in pharmacology, Meiruki was occasionally thrown into the infirmary to assist the medic under supervision.

Veronica furrowed her brow at her, her face etched with distrust.

"I won’t pull any tricks, I value my life." Meiruki quickly raised her hands and offered an apologetic smile.

"You’d better not," Veronica stared down Meiruki with a threatening glance and turned to assist the medic.

"What do you need me to do?" Meiruki turned towards Asenna.

"Wrap these bandages around her, just around the wrists, ankles, and neck, two loops each will suffice." Asenna took out a bandage inscribed with runes in red potion and instructed simply, before handing Meiruki a slip of paper, "Since it’s a ritual, the incantation will be quite long. After I chant each section, you’ll follow by singing a line from that incantation."

"A reinforcement version of the soul-calling spell? Got it." Meiruki glanced at the note and handed it back.

"You’ve studied necromancy?"

"I’ve dabbled." Meiruki took the bandage, "Are you sure these crudely made ritual items are going to work?"

"We don’t have the proper shroud for sealing spirits of the dead here, so we make do with what we have. The important part of the ritual is the conductor, not the tools. Now, let’s begin." Asenna finished speaking and stood her Magic Wand upright in front of her, beginning to focus her spirit in preparation for the spellcasting.

Meiruki approached Slyne, who had already been hit with the Soul Bind spell, and started to wrap the bandages around her. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

She slyly looked back, her gaze sweeping over Asenna who was concentrating on chanting the preliminary incantation, then glanced towards the corner — Veronica was carefully helping the medic move a prisoner with external injuries, and no one was paying attention to them for the moment.

Seizing the opportunity, she lowered her voice and spoke to Slyne, "What a pity, coming here resolved to become a vengeful spirit and take revenge, only to be suppressed by that warden and die with bitterness in your heart... perhaps, I could help you."

Slyne’s eyes suddenly widened, the dim light within them flaring to life. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"I’ve got a bit of a grudge against that warden myself, and I’d like to cause him a little trouble," Meiruki whispered faintly, "If you can move freely today, come to the reading room in the library, I can give you something that can kill Camilla."
