Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Twin Killers_1

Rose Iron Prison, Correctional Education Room.

Newly incarcerated prisoners were being gathered here, under the surveillance of the riot squad, receiving instruction from the guards on the prison regulations and requirements.

Two new juvenile offenders were also notably present.

Veronica stood in the corridor, watching the situation inside the room through a glass window—it was a one-way mirror. The guards in the hallway could clearly see everything within the room, but the prisoners inside couldn’t see out.

In addition to some surveillance posts, she had now also been appointed the significant task of leading the mobility riot squad in the core area.

At that moment, Aiden strode down the corridor towards her.

"Sir!" Veronica immediately stood at attention and saluted.

"You are working hard," Aiden said, greeting her with a smile.

Veronica then shifted her gaze to the petite figure beside Aiden—the "Corrupted Blood Evangeline" from cell number eleven, who was unexpectedly accompanying Aiden today.

Turning towards the glass window, Aiden carefully scrutinized the two young prisoners.

The two girls appeared to be twin sisters, identical in stature and appearance. As for their age... it wasn’t recorded in the files, but they seemed a year or two younger than Avansa, only their gaze and facial expressions were as mechanically cold as Avansa’s.

"They are the ones," he said to Avansa beside him. "It’s said that, like you, they are assassins cultivated by Meiruki. Do you remember them?"

Without hesitation, Avansa shook her head, "No, I basically, have had no interaction with the other ’brothers and sisters’. These two, I am seeing for the first time."

Upon learning that "children of Meiruki" similar to Avansa were transferred to this prison, for caution’s sake, Aiden had brought Avansa here to see if they could learn anything.

But it seemed that Avansa didn’t know much about the other assassins either.

In fact, even though the Heresy Tribunal had never caught Meiruki’s trail, the "children of Meiruki" as executioners of assassination missions were occasionally apprehended. However, these assassins, whose memories were cursed, were utterly unable to provide any intelligence concerning Meiruki.

Aside from this new pair of prisoners, there were four captured assassins in total—two male prisoners were held in Thorn Iron Prison, and one female assassin had died six months after capture due to repercussions from a demonic pact. Only Avansa had been transferred to Rose Iron Prison.

These two new female assassins had been apprehended after a mishap during a joint assassination attempt.

Since the Heresy Tribunal could not extract more information, they simply decided to rush them to trial and then transfer them to Rose Iron Prison, which, on the surface, seemed quite reasonable.

Aiden had carefully reviewed their files. The danger of the twin assassins lay in their demonic pacts, in which they both sacrificed one hand, exchanging the sacrificed hand for a demon claw with immense strength and curse abilities—the older sister offered her left hand, the younger sister her right hand, leading the Heresy Tribunal to fit their wrists with specially made binding shackles.

In terms of abilities, they were far from a match for Avansa, who had been modified multiple times throughout her entire body.

"Keep an eye on them. Whether they approach you or do something noteworthy, make sure to report back in time," he instructed Avansa.

Having Avansa, who had been trained by the same organization and was more skilled, watch them was a secure approach.

"Understood," Avansa nodded.

In this prison, obeying Aiden’s commands had become her newly learned rule of survival.

Veronica, watching from behind as Avansa followed Aiden’s commands without hesitation, had a look of complexity in her eyes.

"Officer..." she tentatively struck up a conversation with Aiden.

"What’s up?" Aiden turned his head.

"I have some questions I’d like to ask you privately, can I come to your office after the surveillance work here is done?" Veronica murmured her request.

"Sure." Aiden agreed readily.

Meanwhile, on the small exercise yard, inmates from the core area who had eaten lunch early were herded here like a flock of grazing sheep, to move about in the limited space.

Meiruki sat quietly on the bench, looking around.

She didn’t see Avansa anywhere... Had she been taken somewhere? freёweɓnovel.com

At that moment, a female inmate approached her silently, coughed twice, and then said, "The weather’s been quite dry recently, causes one to cough without realizing."

Meiruki glanced at her and replied nonchalantly, "Indeed."

The female inmate glanced over at the prison guards in the distance and suddenly lowered her voice, "You’re that alchemist, Mary, right? Do you happen to have any medicine that could stop a cough?"

Meiruki smiled faintly, "I’ve just come out of solitary, I might be under watch. Sneaking in drugs again would be risky..."

Well-versed in pharmacology, she understood that many cough-suppressing medicines had addictive side effects. The female inmate asking for cough medicine clearly had ulterior motives.

This was the fourth person today who had come to ask about drugs.

"Of course, I wouldn’t expect you to give it for free!" The female inmate caught on to her hint, "We can discuss compensation... it’s negotiable."

"No worries, everyone needs help sometimes. Even if you can’t offer compensation, you can always owe a favor," Meiruki replied with a sly smile.

"Absolutely! If there’s anything you need help with, just tell me!" The female inmate nodded vigorously, after all, she was the one in need.

Meiruki was pleased with this; by using her skills in medicine, she had already established her influence here and was quickly building connections.

Now was the time to gather as much information as possible.

"Speaking of which, that warden really is ruthless, locking me up for five days over a few pills, truly infuriating," Meiruki crossed her arms, "That guy must be pretty hated around here, right?"

"What jailer isn’t hated by the inmates..." The female inmate echoed, "But, he really does have a firm grip on things, not many dare to cross him."

"Isn’t there any tough inmate here, who despises him to the bone? I feel like I could find some common ground with such a big shot."

"If you’re looking for protection, it’s best not to go after those types. Anyone who catches the warden’s eye ends up in a bad way, no exceptions," the female inmate advised kindly, "See that woman hiding in the shadows over there?"

Meiruki followed her gaze and saw a pale woman sitting with her legs hugged, in a cool, shaded spot.

"A vampire?" she instantly recognized the woman’s species.

"That woman is a vampire of prince-level. She spent two years digging a tunnel to escape only to find out she was watched all along. After they caught her, she was dealt with severely," the female inmate remarked, "Even someone of her caliber fell hard, we lesser characters would do well not to draw too much attention to ourselves."

"Oh? An escape?" Meiruki’s interest was piqued, she narrowed her eyes, focused intently on the distant vampire prince, like a predator eyeing its prey, "Sounds like a prisoner with a lot of spunk."
