Chapter 405: Chapter 405 Nightmare and Sweet Dream_1
Sera was taken to the warden’s office, and the guard escorting her knocked on the door.
"Come in," Aiden’s voice came from inside.
The guard opened the door and found that there was a visitor sitting in the office.
"It’s all right, we’re just about finished here. Come in and have a seat," Aiden gestured to them.
The visitor sitting on the sofa, dressed in a police uniform distinctly different from the guard’s, stood up and put on his hat, "Anyway, we’ve narrowed down the range where that group of spies is hiding, we should be able to pinpoint them soon."
"Excellent, they stand no chance in this city," Aiden said with a smile.
"Their combat ability... the mounted police alone won’t suffice, it must be left to the Inquisition," said the visitor slowly, "If a conflict arises, casualties might be inevitable."
"Be prepared for battle, they are a bunch of soldiers, if they resist, we’ll have to fight to the death. I’ll help out with this, I have some good hands here," Aiden nodded, "Catch the leader before the minions; if we take out their commander, the rest will crumble."
"We’ll rely on you if needed, farewell," said the visitor as he left.
Then Aiden turned to Sera, smiling, "There’s some good news. The Inquisition has caught the tail of those secret policemen, we will capture them soon."
Sera felt a bit dizzy and couldn’t quite remember why she had been summoned here.
But the conversation she had just overheard seeped into her mind, and she extracted some information—they were close to catching Heinz and his people.
Just as she was about to say something, the entire scene blurred, and at the same time her consciousness sank into darkness.
In a daze, she found herself in another place—the prison’s interrogation room with an iron table, and she couldn’t quite remember why she was there either.
Warden Aiden sat opposite her, smiling as he placed a report on the table, "It’s all over, be happy, the ones the Kingdom sent to assassinate you have been caught."
"How is Heinz?" Almost subconsciously, Sera asked this question.
"He was killed for resisting arrest, there was no other way," Aiden said as he took out several photos and placed them on the table.
Sera stared blankly at the photo of the man lying in a pool of blood; the close-up of his face showed the once resolute face devoid of all life, with vacant half-open eyes.
Cold pain surged over her like a tide, and she heard her own voice whispering in the depths of her heart, "It’s your fault, you could have avoided this."
Sera felt the world spinning around her.
Everything twisted in that spin and then, without warning, she stood outside the gates of Rose Iron Prison.
"You’re being released today, don’t come back," said the guard as he closed the door behind her.
Released? Was she really leaving this prison today?
Sera felt her consciousness blank, as though a chunk of her memory had been violently gouged out.
Where was she to go now? She stood on the street, bewildered, like a statue.
A carriage sped towards her and stopped in front of her; masked thugs burst out of the carriage, seizing her before she could scream in terror, and she was hoisted into the carriage.
The horses neighed, the carriage flew forward, and the masked villains held her hands and feet in the carriage, covering her mouth, one of them pulling out a slim, pointed knife.
"Stab through the eye, and your suffering will end instantly," the executioner said in a hoarse voice, "The King has secured his footing, you’ve become insignificant, whether you live or die doesn’t matter anymore... but better to be dead, after all."
Once again, Sera heard her voice coming from within, "Truly pitiable fool, why did you think you could escape your fate?"
This was the end of the fairy tale, the Prince who had been forced to kill the princess was dead, but the princess who had tried with all her might to cling to life was still pushed from the high tower. What a lonely way to die, as the princess fell from the tower, she suddenly realized that no one in this world cared whether she was alive anymore.
Tears streamed down her face, this time gripped by despair and regret that tightened around her heart; she had never known such agony. Compared to this, the sharp knife approaching her eyeball seemed far less terrifying.
Indeed, running away time and again, how could she ever escape the circumstances of her birth?
Heinz was dead, and now she was about to die too. After all her attempts to flee, she still lost everything.
"If you were given another chance to choose, would you?" The voice spoke again.
If I were to choose again, I would definitely—
"Ah!" Sera woke up with a start, only to find herself sitting on a bench, drenched in cold sweat.
"Had a nightmare?"
The familiar deep voice startled her.
She slowly turned her head, widening her eyes.
Heinz was standing in front of her, smiling gently at her, just like in the days when her father was still alive.
"Heinz?" she muttered softly.
"I’m here," Heinz stood up straight.
He was still alive...
Just like the relief she felt waking from a nightmare in the past, a burden lifted from her, and, at the same time, tears streamed down her face again.
"You’re tired. The struggle for inheritance must be too much pressure for you," Heinz said with concern. "I know it’s hard, but it’s all for you... no, for our future. I will always be by your side."
As he spoke, he reached out his hand.
Broad and reliable, Sera eagerly extended her own hand, wanting to touch it, to feel the tangible reality of her lover still alive on this earth. freewёbnoνel.com
At that moment, she truly woke up and saw the snow-white ceiling above her while lying in a hospital bed.
Her eyes and the corners of her eyes had a strange sensation; the tears she had shed in her sleep had dried up.
Were these just a series of dreams?
But the dreams were too real, the intense fear and regret, and finally the sense of relief, as if they were branded deep in her heart, unforgettable.
"Time to get up; you’re the last one," the jail guard appeared by the bed, waking her up. "Get your temperature taken, and if there are no issues, change clothes and get to work."
Sera climbed out of bed and looked around; the two beds beside her were already empty.
Meanwhile, out in the corridor, Aiden was escorting Presia and Fille back to their cell.
"Was that last part of the dream really necessary?" Presia said. "Our plan was only to make her have nightmares."
"What do you know? Only a beautiful ending can inspire hope and motivation," Fille said nonchalantly. "Hypnotic suggestion is indeed your specialty, but when it comes to creating a memorable and profound dream, I am the expert!"
"I think it was good. You can actually do something decent on occasion," Aiden found Fille’s improvisation not bad for a change.
"Hehe, give me a bit more time, and I could have made them ’happy’ in their dreams, which would make the dream even more unforgettable," Fille suggested suggestively, moving closer. "Lord Aiden, if you think it’s a good idea, we could also—"
"One compliment and your ego hits the roof, doesn’t it? You really can’t stay serious for five seconds!" Aiden sighed heavily and pushed her away, thinking that one really couldn’t praise this succubus too much.
