Chapter 298: Chapter 298: Welcome to My Prison_1

"Go search the west side, find the location of the treasury! A few of you go in that direction, look for the warden’s office while you’re at it, and smash everything there that can be smashed! Bring all the stuff here and wait for me to come out, the rest of you continue with me to the cells. Get moving, you lazy scum!!" Pirate King Navi Drake expertly commanded his subordinates.

He sent a portion of his men to loot supplies from all around, while he personally led his team towards the cells. Although their primary goal was the prison break, plundering was, after all, their bread and butter.

Taking supplies from helpless opponents was what they did best, "The Codex" always created the perfect working environment for them, and to them, this prison was nothing more than a slightly larger merchant ship.

Soon, the main team headed towards the cells encountered the rapid response riot team responsible for the core area. Veronica had already rushed out of the cells and was commanding the riot officers to line up and stand by in the passage.

"Bash the heads and break the legs, hang the bones from the masts!!" Navi, in high spirits, bellowed out a sea shanty.

"Don’t try to play the hero, all heroes become shark bait!!" The other men echoed from behind.

When pirates went about their usual business, they sometimes sang these bloody and terrifying shanties for their victims to hear, as it boosted their morale and intimidated the opponent.

Seeing the pirates approaching with great ferocity, the riot officers panicked for a moment, instinctively reaching for their gun holsters.

"Nobody move, hold your position!!" Veronica promptly stopped them.

"Smart choice, little girl," Navi laughed heartily, "but don’t you think that’s a bit too cowardly for an officer?"

The pirates walked straight past the lined-up riot officers and Veronica. Some of the pirates even leered as they passed by, making vulgar gestures by thrusting their index fingers into their other hand’s clenched fist, goading Veronica with gestures and words.

"Is the lady cop standing here just a showpiece girl?"

"Wanna come back to the ship and have some fun with the boys?"

"Interested in a taste of what sea men are like?" ƒгeewёbnovel.com

...

The crude provocations made the other riot officers clench their teeth with anger, but Veronica coldly retorted, "That desperate? Don’t you see women on the sea? Or do you guys just take care of each other normally?"

Several pirates’ expressions froze instantly.

Having trained with Aiden in the core area for so long, Veronica had developed quite a skill in handling such provocations.

She knew these pirates wouldn’t dare to lay a hand on them; in some ways, these pirates were like the prisoners in the cells, bold enough only to spew filth under their breath in an attempt to gain a verbal advantage, but never daring to actually take action.

"Stop embarrassing yourselves, catch up quickly!!" Navi turned his head and scolded his men.

"The Codex" held overwhelming power, and they hadn’t even seen a hint of the warden who had talked so tough, right up until they reached deep into the belly of the prison. Apparently, their triumphant advance had scared him witless.

Everything was going smoothly, but still, it was best to finish up quickly to avoid unnecessary complications.

They quickly passed the corner and entered the corridor where the core area cell’s main gate was located.

At that moment, Annie had already led a group of female convicts rushing out of the core area cells at the end of the corridor, running right into them.

"Daddy!" Annie rushed over, overjoyed to see him.

"Haha, time to go home, little troublemaker!" Navi spread his arms and embraced his daughter.

The pirates looked over the female prisoners emerging with Annie and whistled.

"Dad, the warden here has been giving me trouble, you..." Annie complained, linking arms with her father.

"He’s had a bit of a disagreement with me too. I’ve already sent someone to smash his office," Navi said, the corners of his mouth rising. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"That’s not enough! You brought whale oil for burning ships, right? Let’s set a few fires and get them burning!" Annie revealed a sly smile.

"I was thinking the same thing!" Navi laughed heartily.

The rules laid out in The Codex only prohibit personal injury; setting fires to things isn’t restricted, although if the flames spread to places where they might harm people they would still be governed by The Codex’s rules. But as long as they left the prison quickly with The Codex after lighting the fire, the situation could escalate into a blaze if the prison guards weren’t swift enough to extinguish it.

Veronica, standing in the corridor, found it increasingly difficult to keep her composure upon hearing the conversation drifting from the depths of the hall. Even though the prisoners from the general section had already been evacuated to the yard, the damage that a spreading fire could cause in the prison was still immeasurable!

"So, this is your goal?" A sudden female voice rang out in the hallway, interrupting the "heartwarming" father-daughter reunion.

Navi and his pirates instinctively turned around—the voice came from behind them, where they had come from.

A strange woman stood there, wearing a backless, tight, shiny satin black dress, holding a slender ladies’ smoking pipe in her hand, gloved in black tulle. A necklace adorned with lots of rhinestones and pearls circled her fair neck, and a hair crown similar to the necklace sat atop her updo.

At a glance, she looked like an opera star who had jumped out of a photo from a newspaper clipping. But in such a setting, this "star" seemed completely out of place.

The pirates present were all stunned. There were no side doors in this stretch of corridor and no other crossroads; they hadn’t heard footsteps either. This strange woman had appeared as if out of thin air.

The female prisoners who had escaped the jail were also baffled; none of them had seen this woman here before.

"Who are you?" Navi was the first to speak.

But the woman merely glanced at him indifferently: "Don’t mind me, I wasn’t talking to you."

"What?" Navi furrowed his brow.

The woman ignored him and said to someone on his left, "Is the job done, warden?"

Then, an even more abrupt voice responded, "Ah, it’s all taken care of."

Though unexpected, every person there recognized the voice.

Especially the female prisoners who had escaped; upon hearing the voice, their hairs stood on end, and the specter of the solitary confinement room seemed to materialize before them.

Aiden Galahad!

Navi, too, was startled. The voice had suddenly emerged to his left, and he quickly turned his head in that direction, his face instantly betraying a look of shock as if he’d just seen a giant dragon doing a handstand and charging towards him.

There stood the warden, the same man whose presence he hadn’t detected since invading the prison, leaning on a cane, as if posing for a photo shoulder to shoulder with him.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Drake," Aiden said, turning his face with a smile and politely greeting Navi, "Welcome to my prison."
