Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Can’t Outdo Fathers_1
Because of the earlier cries, more armed pirates swarmed out of the pirate ship’s cabin.
Robbing a merchant ship that had given up resistance didn’t require all hands on deck, but now that three monsters had forcibly boarded their ship, it undoubtedly necessitated an all-out emergency response.
The female captain continued to shoot at Kael, but having already been shot once, Kael was naturally not going to stand still as a live target; he and the other two quickly found cover.
"Load silver bullets, kill these vampires! Get all the Holy Water out of the storage!" the female captain began to command her subordinates, while also starting to reload her gun.
Pirates at sea, or on island ruins, occasionally encountered some "incredible" things, including but not limited to magical beasts, evil spirits and curses, so they would also stockpile some special weapons and props for these situations.
"You go first, be careful. Since it’s the person that his lordship specifically named and ordered us to capture, he might unexpectedly be a formidable one..." Kael leaned behind a crate, enduring the pain as he used his fingers to pick out the silver bullet from his shoulder wound.
Another male Vampire Prince silently split himself entirely into bats and attacked the pirates gathered on the deck.
The pirates, with incomprehensible terror, flailed their arms and shot wildly into the sky, but they couldn’t kill even a few bats; instead, bats kept cutting wounds on their bodies, and some bats directly clung to them to suck their blood. Once the bats had consumed enough fresh blood, they split off into new individuals.
Seeing the situation turning grim, the female captain ducked and cowered to avoid the bats’ attacks, while drawing a rune on the ground.
Soon, white fog rapidly spread and enveloped most of the deck.
Kael and the female Vampire Prince exchanged glances from behind the crate.
"Kael..." the female Vampire Prince hesitated.
"I take back what I said." Kael shook his head and sighed, "This is just too pathetic..."
Actually using such dark magic to obscure vision against vampires, it seemed this girl’s knowledge of vampires was limited to the superficial understanding that silver and Holy Water could cause extra damage. If an Inquisitor from the Heretic Inquisition were to comment, this tactic would be considered laughably amateurish.
Kael was really bewildered; how could such a minor character be personally ordered for capture by the Progenitor?
But since the order was given, they had no choice but to comply.
"Our target is only Annie Drake, what about the others..." the female Vampire Prince asked Kael.
Though they were both Vampire Princes who had sealed the Blood Covenant with the Progenitor, Kael’s status was still slightly higher than theirs, enough to be considered the leader of this mission.
"What to do with the others is not a problem, they’re just a bunch of pirates anyway... But since we’re required to capture the target alive, and we can’t see anyone now, you better be conservative in your attacks," Kael instructed.
The female Vampire Prince simply drew a rune on the deck as well, and the surrounding fog immediately grew denser. The two fogs, one targeting vampires and the other pirates, overlapped, rendering both sides blind.
Thereafter, the female Vampire Prince also split herself into bats, randomly seeking prey on the scene. Bats didn’t need vision and had an overwhelming advantage in this fog against the pirates—who were far too inexperienced in combating vampires.
Vampires had many weaknesses, but their abilities were also bizarre. The Heretic Inquisitors could defeat vampires by targeting their weaknesses, but for those less familiar with vampires, High-Rank Bloodlines would prove to be a formidable and insoluble foe.
These bats could only cause shallow wounds and didn’t suck much blood, but as the damage accumulated, soon enough some pirates collapsed from anemia.
"Damn it!" the female captain cursed vehemently, as she too was bitten several times by the erratically charging bats amid the fog.
The world before her eyes was a blanket of white, the only sound being the squeaks of bats and the wails of her crew among them.
The female captain began to realize that this battle could not be won, and today was truly an unlucky day; a routine robbery of a merchant ship had resulted in them being ambushed by three monsters.
Abandon ship and flee—this thought instantly sprang to mind.
A ship was indeed a significant loss, but it was better than losing one’s life. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Moreover, given her "family background," she could totally afford to lose a ship.
She recited an incantation, casting a dark magic spell to enhance her vision, and her sight cleared up just a little bit. Then she immediately rushed to the port side of the ship. As the captain of the "Stag Eagle Beast," she knew exactly where the escape boat was hung.
She dodged several crew members who were writhing on the ground, ran to the left side of the deck, and quickly fled the bat-infested bow.
Gradually moving away from the center of the black magic’s range, the fog before her eyes also became much lighter,
The female captain gauged the distance, feeling that she was close to the path of escape.
But just then, a figure appeared before her.
"Surprised?" the figure greeted her with a smile in their voice.
The female captain immediately raised her gun—that voice was exactly the same as the first vampire that boarded the ship.
But the figure casually waved a hand, and a blood-red whip flashed by. The next thing the female captain knew, she was shocked to find the barrel of her gun sliced off as if cleaved by a diagonal cut, and half of the magazine was severed too.
There was also a bit of blood left on the cut, which dripped down onto her hand.
The female captain cried out and threw away the half-remaining gun. By then, Kael had already approached her.
"Don’t worry, I am generally quite the gentleman to ladies..." Kael said with a smile.
The female captain drew her sword and struck. Kael, having anticipated the move, transformed the blood whip in his hand into a long sword in an instant. He brandished the long sword, easily parrying the cutlass, and then Kael charged forward, ramming his knee into the female captain’s abdomen.
The female captain immediately collapsed to the deck in pain.
"So I’ll try not to leave any scars on you that might scar," Kael said with a grin, controlling the blood sword in his hand to revert back to a whip, and tightly bound the female captain, "That’s for the shot you fired earlier. Now, answer me, are you Annie Drake, the captain of the Stag Eagle Beast?"
"You... know and still dare to trouble me?" The captain of the ship, Annie Drake, gritted her teeth and lifted her face, "My father is the Pirate King who rules over the Coral Sea Domain!"
"Sounds impressive, but sorry, I really don’t know much about pirates... To be honest, I don’t really know you either," Kael apologized, scratching his head, "But no matter what, your background is not scary to me; your father probably isn’t as formidable as our ’father’."
In the game of who had the more fearsome father, few could compete with these High-Rank Bloodline princes.
"You don’t know us? Then why are you after me!?" The female captain’s eyes widened, "For ransom? Treasure?"
"Oh no, the orders I received..." Kael thought for a moment, "were just to hand you over to the officials, simply to put you in prison, that’s all."
