Chapter 257: Chapter 257: Striking Down My Teammate_1

Watching countless bats fighting indiscernibly in the sky above, Aiden silently stepped back a few steps, bent down to pick up the briefcase from the ground, and took out a mask and a runic silver short sword from inside.

For tonight’s operation, he had indeed made some equipment preparations, but he still felt it was somewhat a pity.

If he had known that he would engage in combat with his opponent today, he would have worn the full outfit and equipment of a senior Judge.

The effect of God’s Word had dissipated, and now he could only rely on Kael as the main force and acting agent to directly confront their foe.

Kael possessed the undead body bestowed by the progenitor, which could resist the death-dealing power of the "Death Authority," but the opponent also had the power of "undead," and Aiden estimated that it would be difficult to determine a winner in this fight.

A small cluster of gray bats flew out from the tumultuous swarm, heading straight for Aiden, but were quickly caught up to by another small group of black bats, leaving only a few that slipped through the net to fly toward Aiden.

Aiden fired several shots, then used the short sword to slash down the last two that approached.

Kael and the acting agent were similar in stature, and in terms of lineage, Kael was not likely to be at a disadvantage, their divided bat numbers were nearly the same.

Aiden looked back again at the three dead bodies lying across the street, all three bodies remained motionless.

In such fierce combat, it seemed difficult for the acting agent to spare too much effort to attack him.

Many injured bats fell from the sky to the ground, crawling about. Aiden reloaded his bullets and looked up at the sky.

In just a few seconds, the number of bats had greatly diminished; the battle seemed chaotic, but Aiden began to discern a pattern.

The heart core of a High-Rank Bloodline is actually the heart. When a vampire splits, the heart area can divide into a small swarm of four to seven bats, which cannot stray too far from each other. Whereas other parts could fly far away, they would need to return to where the heart was located as time neared its limit. The closer they were to the heart, the more precisely the vampire could control the bats split from other parts of its body.

For a senior Judge, if they could attack the few bats formed from the heart area, they could severely wound a shape-shifted vampire. However, identifying those few specific targets within a swarm of bats was virtually an impossible task for ordinary people.

But, as the number of bats decreased, Aiden gradually began to observe—within the chaotic swarm, the two densest centers.

One center was composed of gray bats transformed from the acting agent, forming a spherical shape in mid-air, being assailed by black bats, while the opposite was true on the other hand.

Both Kael and the acting agent had to protect their vitals with all their might during the fight, just like two boxers exchanging blows and always guarding their own critical points behind their fists while attacking their opponent’s chin.

In other words, the side concentrated with gray bats was precisely where the acting agent’s vulnerable spot was located.

Aiden held his gun, now reloaded, and gauged the linear distance—about thirty meters or so, within the range his marksmanship could reach. It was just that shooting the acting agent’s heart was an unrealistic expectation.

He put away the short sword and took out a sealed flask from the briefcase. Inside it was highly concentrated Holy Water, which had a strong erosive effect on the undead; normal evil spirits would be gone if splashed on them.

Recalling the experience of his predecessor brutally beating Ophelia in his mind, Aiden gripped the flask and began chanting the incantation, "Blazing light, shine in the palm of my hand."

Delicate bubbles appeared in the Holy Water inside the flask—this black Magic’s effect was to heat a specific target. Its effective distance was very short, basically only working on things held in the caster’s hand and ineffective on living beings.

Aiden used this dark magic to heat the water in the flask to near boiling, then took a few steps forward and threw the flask filled with Holy Water towards the cluster of grey bats.

The test tube soared into the air, gradually approaching the sphere formation where the grey bats were concentrated.

The Proxy sensed something was amiss; a few grey bats flew towards the flask, trying to knock it away—but it was too late.

Aiden aimed quickly and fired a shot, shattering the flask.

Scalding Holy Water splashed through the air, carrying with it a great deal of steam, and nearly all the grey bats were hit—of course, the black bats that Kael had shape-shifted into to join in the attack were not spared from the calamity either.

This move was a strategy devised by the former Aiden to counter Ophelia’s vaporization abilities: he would throw the heated, sealed Holy Water toward Ophelia as she transformed into mist, then shatter the container with a gunshot—thereafter, Ophelia would be forced back into her original shape, writhing in agony on the ground.

Along with the piercing screams of the bats, Aiden saw the grey ones quickly gather into a human shape and fall from the sky, crashing hard onto the ground.

Aiden seized the opportunity, aiming at the body and firing five shots in rapid succession, emptying the magazine and sending all the remaining Exorcism bullets into the Proxy’s body.

Meanwhile, the black bats also fell back to the ground and came together to form Kael’s shape again. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"I’m dying, I’m dying!! Buddy, can you give a warning before you act!?" Kael wailed, covering his face.

Like the Proxy over there, he was covered in wounds, but the most severe damage was actually from the extensive splashing of the Holy Water by Aiden just now—the move had grievously wounded not only the Proxy but also struck his own teammate.

"Sorry about that, but wouldn’t he have been on guard if I’d said something?" Aiden said, not looking away as he reloaded his bullets. "Also, do me a favor and either put some clothes on or turn around, don’t face me directly, thanks."

Kael had just barely recovered from the excruciating pain of the Holy Water’s erosion when he heard gunshots ring out again—Aiden had just reloaded and was once more firing continuously at the Proxy, emptying another magazine.

The Proxy’s heart was eroded by Holy Water, and he had ingested more than ten Magic Devouring bullets specially effective against the undead; he was no longer able to rise and could only struggle in vain on the ground.

Then, Aiden emptied the spent cartridges and continued to load bullets.

"What are you doing?" Kael asked, dumbstruck.

"Preventing him from getting back up," Aiden said, emotionless as he slid the magazine back in place.

Kael was stunned. Not only was the Proxy riddled with wounds, and his heart shot several times, but his joints too had been hit by the Magic Devouring bullets; although he wouldn’t die, this time there was utterly no chance of resistance.

Is this what they call overkill?

Don’t Magic Devouring bullets cost money?

Afterward, Aiden aimed and fired at the Proxy again.

Listening to the Proxy’s wails, Kael silently made a decision in his heart—unless absolutely necessary, it would be best not to become an enemy of this warden.
