Chapter 77: Chapter 77: The Sister Didn’t Steal Her Bracelet
Jude Redmond and Elaine Bell stared at the police, completely stunned.
’What’s going on... Who called the cops?’
Henry Stark shot them a cold glance, strode to the room’s entrance, and kicked the door open with his long leg.
"BANG—"
When the door was kicked open, Peach was standing on the bay window, warning a stark-naked Ian Ford not to come near her.
"Don’t come any closer!"
Seeing the door fly open, Peach felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted, and she collapsed, sitting down limply.
Ian Ford whipped his head around, his face dark and ugly as he glared at Henry Stark. "Who the hell are you? Get lost!"
He then roared, "Jude Redmond, what kind of sloppy job did you do?"
"Police." Henry Stark presented his badge, his voice cold. "We’ve received a report that you’re attempting to commit rape."
Ian Ford’s eyes widened in an instant, a look of terror spreading across his face as he hastily denied it. "I didn’t!"
Henry Stark looked at him expressionlessly. "Whether you did or not is for the police to investigate. Now, please get dressed and come with us."
Ian Ford and the other two were handcuffed.
Standing by the elevator, they looked hopeless and bewildered, unable to comprehend why they had been arrested.
Peach picked up the phone in the living room. Looking at Renee Jennings’s delicate and beautiful face, she suddenly felt like she had survived a disaster.
"Streamer, thank you!" Peach choked out. "If it weren’t for you, I can’t even imagine..."
"It’s over now. Take your evidence and go to the police station," Renee Jennings said gently. "Be more careful when making friends in the future."
"I know." Peach nodded repeatedly.
After Renee Jennings ended the call, she was about to connect with the next person when she saw that Peach had gifted her two "Romantic Fireworks."
The number of viewers in the live stream had already reached six thousand, and the audience was in a heated discussion:
[Hey, why’d it cut off? Aren’t you going to show them going to the police station???]
[That was so satisfying to watch! Caught red-handed! We need more scripts like this!]
[I hope none of you ever meet a toxic bestie like Skye.]
"It’s really not a script." Renee Jennings looked at the public chat and explained helplessly before continuing, "Now, let’s connect with the next viewer."
This time, she connected with the user ID "Begonia."
A middle-aged woman with a bob haircut appeared in the split-screen.
"Hello, Begonia," Renee Jennings greeted her. "Do you have any pets?"
"I do." Begonia nodded. "I have a Bichon Frise at home."
She placed her phone on a stand, got up, and held the Bichon Frise up to the screen. "His name is Pippi."
Renee Jennings looked at the unhappy-looking Bichon and said softly, "Hello, Pippi. Is there anything I can help you with? Or perhaps, do you have a wish?"
Begonia sighed, her tone mournful. "Pippi has been acting very strange for the past two months. He seems to be in a bad mood, and he doesn’t react no matter how I try to play with him. I even took him to a pet psychologist, but nothing worked. Streamer, can you help me?"
She was at her wit’s end.
She had just happened to see that Renee Jennings was an animal consultant for the zoo, and then she happened to catch her live stream.
She was desperate enough to try anything.
"I’ll try." Renee Jennings could indeed sense Pippi’s awful mood. "Pippi, did something happen to upset you? You can tell me. Maybe I can help."
But Pippi began to struggle in Begonia’s arms, whimpering and barking, "Let go of me, you bad mommy who drove my sister away!"
Hearing this, Renee Jennings asked with confusion, "Does Pippi have a sister?"
Begonia, who was trying to soothe Pippi, was taken aback. "Why do you ask?"
Seeing that she wouldn’t give a straight answer, Renee Jennings asked directly, "Did you drive away Pippi’s sister?"
Begonia’s eyelashes trembled, her eyes widening in astonishment. Her voice was laced with disbelief. "Could it be that Pippi’s ignoring me because of this?"
[What’s the drama with this one?]
[I’ve got my popcorn ready for the show~]
Pippi, who had just struggled free from Begonia’s arms, was also stunned. ƒreewebɳovel.com
’This streamer can actually understand what I’m saying?’
Realizing this, Pippi began to run in excited circles, barking as he ran, "Streamer, I’m so sorry! I was a blind fool! Streamer, can you please tell my mom that my sister didn’t steal her bracelet! Her bracelet was stolen by cousin Milo!"
Renee Jennings gently soothed the little one. "Pippi, don’t worry. Tell me slowly."
Begonia’s shocked gaze darted between Renee Jennings and Pippi. "This... Streamer, what did Pippi say?"
Renee Jennings said calmly, "You don’t need to worry either. Let me talk with Pippi a little more."
This time, Pippi trotted up to the screen on his own, stared at Renee Jennings, and said earnestly, "Streamer, this is what happened..."
That day, Begonia’s nephew, Milo, was visiting. Begonia’s gold bracelet was on the dining table, and Pippi saw him casually slip it into his pants pocket.
Later, when Begonia couldn’t find her gold bracelet, her daughter, Stella, happened to have a new phone, so Begonia questioned her.
"Did you take my gold bracelet and sell it to buy your new phone?"
"Mom, I didn’t!" Stella shook her head. "Did you put it somewhere and forget?"
Begonia didn’t believe her and, heartbroken, she berated Stella. "I never thought you’d turn out like this! If I had known you’d do something so outrageous, I never should have fought your father for custody!"
Begonia’s words shattered Stella’s heart.
Stella’s eyes were red-rimmed, her voice thick with tears. "Mom, I’m asking you one more time: do you really think I stole the gold bracelet?"
"Isn’t it obvious?" Begonia’s face was grim. "If you didn’t steal the bracelet to sell it, where did you get the money for a new phone?"
"Fine." Despair filled Stella’s heart, and she laughed in fury. "If you think I stole it, then I stole it. Think whatever you want. The truth is, you’ve regretted keeping me with you for a long time. I’m just a burden. Well, you can rest easy now. I won’t be a burden to you anymore!"
Throwing those words at her, Stella grabbed her schoolbag and stormed out the door.
Pippi panicked and immediately ran after her.
Stella ran downstairs and, seeing Pippi had followed, stopped to wait for him. "Pippi..."
Night enveloped the city as the girl and the dog sat together under a tree.
Stella hugged Pippi, bawling her eyes out. "I’m sorry, Pippi. Your sister can’t be with you anymore."
Stella was the one who had found Pippi as a stray. Hearing her say this, Pippi was also very sad.
He wanted to leave with Stella, but she looked at him earnestly and said, "Pippi, from now on, will you stay with Mom in my place, okay?"
Because of his sister’s words, Pippi obediently went back home.
But in his heart, he was still angry that Begonia had falsely accused Stella, which was why he refused to pay her any attention.
Pippi told Renee Jennings the whole story, whining pitifully, "My sister is so pitiful. I miss my sister so much..."
Renee Jennings pressed her lips together, unable to calm her emotions for a long time.
As a child from a single-parent household, Stella would be more sensitive than a child from a typical family. Her mother was her entire world, yet the person she trusted most had wrongly accused her...
Renee Jennings could imagine that in that moment, Stella must have felt like she was completely falling apart.
