Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Poison Her
Renee took the little calico cat and brought Flora to a pet funeral home.
As they left, the little calico cat meowed sadly, "Does this mean Flora can’t be with me anymore?"
Renee squatted down in front of it and gazed into its dim eyes. "I’m going to take you somewhere," she said softly. "You can stay there for now."
She brought the little calico cat to an animal rescue organization.
"Miss Jennings, you’re here!" a young volunteer said, taking the little calico cat with a particularly warm smile. "Weren’t you the one who was riding the tiger at the zoo a couple of days ago?"
Renee paused for a moment, then asked, "Where did you see that?"
"On TikTok, of course! You don’t know you’ve gone viral?" The young volunteer was astonished. ’Anyone else would’ve already cashed in on this hype to promote products.’
Seeing Renee’s blank expression, the young volunteer pulled out her phone and opened a video she had liked. "Look, it’s so awesome! Oh, right, did you post the video you filmed of the tigers yet?"
"Not yet." Renee was shocked to see the video had 1.99 million likes.
Hearing she hadn’t posted it yet, the volunteer quickly asked, "Which account are you going to post it on, then? Can I follow it ahead of time?"
To be honest, Renee hadn’t decided.
But she had promised the tiger brothers she would make them known to the whole world.
She thought for a moment, then pulled out her phone and opened TikTok. When she saw her own profile was filled with videos showing off her figure, her face flushed, and she hastily set the account to private.
Looking up to meet the young volunteer’s eager gaze, Renee gave an awkward smile. "I haven’t actually made an account yet. Why don’t you add me on WeChat? I’ll let you know once I’ve set it up."
The young volunteer’s eyes lit up instantly. "Really?" she asked, overjoyed.
’I’m actually getting Miss Jennings’s WeChat!’
’Ahhh! I’m so excited!’
"Of course," Renee said with a light chuckle, taking out her phone. "I’ll scan your code."
After adding her on WeChat, Renee went to chat with Eggy and the others. She didn’t leave until Rhea Dempsey called to ask if she was coming home for lunch.

After dinner, Rhea Dempsey was hanging laundry on the balcony when a small swallow suddenly flew over, landed on the guardrail, and chirped at her.
"Are you talking to me?" she wondered, pausing to look at it curiously.
The small swallow nodded its little head.
"Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t understand you!" Rhea Dempsey said, looking helpless. She turned and called into the house, "Renee, come over here and help me translate!"
Renee was playing Ludo with the twins. Hearing her mom, she got up and walked over. "Translate what?"
Rhea: "This little swallow is talking to me, but I don’t understand what it’s saying."
"Inky?" Renee blinked. ’This little guy must be here for me,’ she thought, then asked the bird, "What did you tell my mom?"
Inky: "Robin told your mom that Robin is looking for you."
"Oh, I see." Renee nodded, then turned to her expectant mother. "Mom, it says you’re very beautiful."
Upon hearing this, a smile instantly bloomed on Rhea Dempsey’s face. "Oh, my! This little swallow came all this way just to praise me. What a charmer! And little birds don’t lie!"
Renee: "..."
"You come back tomorrow," Rhea told Inky with a grin. "I’ll buy you some tasty treats."
Renee: "..."
Inky chirped, "Even though Robin didn’t praise you, thank you anyway."
Rhea quickly asked her daughter, "Sweetie, what did it say?"
Renee: "It said, ’Thank you, you’re so nice.’"
Rhea laughed and waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, it’s nothing!"
Renee held out her hand to Inky and led it into the living room. "Do you have news?"
When she had returned home earlier, she’d specifically instructed Inky to have the birds watch for suspicious individuals and find out who was putting rat poison down around the complex.
"I do," Inky said, perched on her hand. "The blue pellets were put there by a plump human female."
Renee: "A resident from the complex?"
Inky: "Yes. It’s the Old Hag that Blueberry mentioned."
At these words, Renee’s eyes narrowed. A layer of frost seemed to settle over her fair features, her expression turning frigid.
’Old Hag Crawford!’
’If she was the one who put down the rat poison, then her intentions weren’t as simple as just killing rats.’
After a moment, Renee suppressed her emotions and said softly, "Inky, could you please do me a favor and find out why she’s putting out rat poison?"
"Okay, Renee," Inky chirped obediently, then fluttered its wings and flew toward the balcony.
It even paused to say goodbye to Rhea Dempsey. "Auntie, Robin is leaving now." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
As if she understood perfectly, Rhea beamed and said, "Leaving already? Remember to come back for a snack tomorrow!"
Seeing this, Renee’s eyes curved into crescents as a soft smile played on her lips.
「Meanwhile.」
Quentin Lowell was meeting with a municipal leader.
Mayor Frederick Wyatt was specifically praising the department’s recent efficiency in solving cases. "The people you have under you are all outstanding, Lowell."
"Actually, the main credit this time doesn’t belong to anyone in the department," Quentin Lowell said. Thinking of how his wife and daughter sang Renee’s praises, his own impression of her improved considerably.
"Oh?" Frederick Wyatt raised an eyebrow, a look of curiosity on his face. "Then who was it?"
Quentin Lowell recounted Renee’s accomplishments, his eyes filled with unconcealed admiration. "Kane is truly exceptional."
Seeing his old classmate praise Renee so highly, Frederick Wyatt’s interest was piqued. "Lowell, the last time I heard you praise someone this much was years ago, back when Henry Stark first joined your team."
He paused, a hint of skepticism in his voice. "Is this Kane really that remarkable?"
"I saw it with my own eyes," Quentin Lowell said, his expression solemn.
Frederick Wyatt nodded. "Find an opportunity to arrange a meeting. If Kane is as exceptional as you say, we need to seize the opportunity. We can’t let such talent slip through our fingers."
Quentin Lowell was in complete agreement. He had specifically brought her up to the mayor for this very reason—he wanted to bring Renee into his fold.
Having her on board would be like adding a powerful new engine to a massive ship sailing the vast ocean.

After leaving Renee’s apartment, Inky flew to Building Three and landed on a second-floor windowsill. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Old Hag Crawford was at home, legs crossed, cracking melon seeds. The memory of the rich man who had come asking about Renee the other day still made her teeth grind in anger. "That little bitch Renee really has a way with men, hooking up with so many rich ones. And you? You fail every single one of your blind dates!"
"If you’re going to talk about Renee, then talk about her. Why do you have to bring me into it?" Joy Warren, who was sitting nearby, retorted unhappily.
Hugh Warren, who was hunched over mopping the floor, grumbled when he heard his wife and daughter, "Well, Renee is pretty. It’s only normal for men to like her."
"What did you just say?" Old Hag Crawford exploded. "Are you saying you like her, too?"
Joy Warren scowled. "Dad, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying I’m not as pretty as Renee?"
Hugh Warren said nothing, just took the mop and retreated into another room.
Old Hag Crawford SPAT the melon seed shells onto the floor. "I swear, I want to shove that rat poison down that little bitch’s throat!" she hissed through gritted teeth. "Poison her to death!"
