Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Laughing Their Fangs Off

Hearing the kitten’s fierce meows, Cecilia tilted her little head up to look at Renee Jennings and said pitifully, "Renee, Kongo was mean to me again! It must hate me!"

"Let me talk to it." Renee Jennings squatted down next to Cecilia, lowered her head slightly, and peered at the little kitten under the bed.

In the dim light, the cat’s eyes shimmered with a faint glow.

Renee Jennings began tentatively, "Kongo, hello. I’m Renee Jennings."

As soon as she finished speaking, the kitten immediately started meowing irritably, "Don’t say it! Don’t say it! You annoying two-legged beasts!"

The kitten’s reaction was a bit over the top. Renee Jennings frowned slightly, finding it odd. "Kongo, why do you think two-legged beasts are annoying?"

Cecilia blinked, her chubby little face filled with confusion and curiosity.

’What’s a two-legged beast?’

"Annoying! I told you not to say it and you’re still saying it!" The kitten was furious. "Say it again and see if I don’t bite you!"

The kitten slowly emerged from under the bed. Its eyes, once hidden in the shadows, were now exposed to the light, looking adorably fierce.

It was a cute golden British Shorthair.

Having been the target of the kitten’s hostility several times, Cecilia was already intimidated and hid fearfully behind Renee Jennings.

’Don’t say it?’

Renee Jennings’s eyes narrowed slightly. She mulled it over, and a faint glimmer of understanding appeared in her eyes.

She had a pretty good idea of what was upsetting the kitten.

Her lips twitched. "Kongo?"

"AHHHH, DON’T SAY IT!" the kitten meowed fiercely.

Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly and mischievously said it again, "Kongo."

"AHHHH, I’M GONNA BITE YOU!" The kitten’s fur stood on end. It tensed up, arching its back with a ferocious look in its eyes, posturing as if ready to attack at any moment.

"Renee, should we go outside first?" Cecilia asked, her small body trembling with fear of being bitten.

’I don’t know why Kongo has become so mean. On its first day here, it was such a cuddly little kitten.’

’I woke up the next day and my world had fallen apart!’

’SOB SOB SOB, if I’d known, I wouldn’t have gone to sleep!’

Renee Jennings peered at the kitten, a smile creeping into her eyes. "You don’t like this name, do you?"

"It’s such an awful name, who would like it!" After yelling, the kitten suddenly froze. The anger in its round eyes vanished, replaced by confusion as it realized something.

"Huh? You, a two-legged beast, can understand me?"

"Yes, I can understand you," Renee Jennings said softly. "Can you tell me why you’ve suddenly started ignoring Cecilia and being mean to her?"

"I actually really liked the two-legged beast cub!" the kitten explained, starting to sound aggrieved. "But she broke my heart! She actually gave me such an awful name! If other cats found out I was given a monkey’s name, they’d laugh their fangs off!"

"I’m the prettiest little she-cat in my litter!" ’Calling me Kongo is just too much!’

Renee Jennings knew in her heart it was rude, but she couldn’t help but let out a laugh. "Pfft—"

Cecilia’s chubby little face was full of confusion. "Renee, what are you laughing at?"

"See? See?!" the kitten said, both aggrieved and angry. "Even you’re laughing at me! AHHHH, I’M GONNA BITE YOU!"

It bared its fangs and charged at Renee Jennings on its slightly clumsy little legs, but before it could even take a bite, it was lifted up.

Renee Jennings held it in her hands, cooing with a smile, "There, there, kitty, don’t be angry. I’m here to solve your problem."

Up close, the kitten’s nose twitched slightly. It caught a whiff of the comforting scent on her, and its raised fur instantly settled down. It wasn’t fierce anymore.

It asked pitifully, "How will you solve it?"

"If you don’t like the name Kongo, then we’ll change it." ’It’s that simple.’

Hearing this, Cecilia asked curiously in her soft, sweet voice, "Kongo doesn’t like his name? Why? I think it’s a great name!"

The kitten immediately retorted, "It’s not great! If you think it’s so great, you can use it yourself!"

The corners of Renee Jennings’s mouth kept turning up. Amused, she said, "Cecilia, if it were you, would you want to be named Kongo?"

Cecilia’s eyes went wide, and she shook her little head like a rattle drum. "No way, I’m a girl!"

Renee Jennings said patiently, "But the kitten is a girl, too. The reason it’s angry and ignoring you is because you chose a boy’s name for it."

"Huh...? Do you have to pick boy and girl names for kittens, too?" Cecilia was extremely surprised.

"Yes," Renee Jennings nodded. "Let’s give it a new name, okay?"

Cecilia obediently agreed, "Okay!"

Renee Jennings then asked the kitten, "What kind of name would you like?"

"A sweet name!" ’What a vain little kitten.’ ƒrēewebnovel.com

After a moment of thought, Renee Jennings suggested, "How about Candy? Candy is very sweet."

"Candy..." The kitten’s eyes lit up instantly, and it nodded its little head vigorously. "I like this name! From now on, I’m Candy!" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Renee Jennings turned her head to ask the human cub, "Cecilia, the kitten will be called Candy from now on, is that okay?"

"Is it a name the kitty likes?"

"Yes."

Cecilia looked at the kitten and apologized softly, "Candy, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you didn’t like that name."

Candy was a smart little kitten. Knowing her little owner didn’t mean to bully her, she also gave a soft meow. "It’s okay."

Cecilia turned to look at Renee Jennings, waiting for a translation.

Renee Jennings said, "Candy says it’s okay."

Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief and asked cautiously, "Candy, can I hold you now?"

Candy let out a "meow."

’Of course you can.’

Renee Jennings placed the little kitten in Cecilia’s arms.

Candy immediately nuzzled her little owner’s face with her head.

With Renee Jennings’s help, the human cub and the little kitten made up.

Seeing Candy nestled obediently in her daughter’s arms, Rosalind was utterly astonished.

She had originally thought her husband was joking, but she never expected it to be true.

Renee Jennings had only been in the room for a few short minutes, yet she’d managed to tame the little kitten.

"Renee, what was the deal with Kongo?" Rosalind couldn’t help but ask.

Nestled in her little owner’s arms, Candy’s whole body suddenly went rigid.

Cecilia looked back at her mother, a serious expression creeping onto her little face. "Mommy, her name is Candy now, not Kongo. You can’t call her that anymore!"

Renee Jennings briefly explained the reason for Candy’s tantrum.

Rosalind looked dumbfounded. "So it was actually because she wasn’t happy with her name..."

Renee Jennings chuckled lightly. "Actually, most animals have their own thoughts."

"No wonder they say many animals are intelligent." Rosalind nodded. "It seems I’ll have to be more careful in the future."

Ten minutes later, Renee Jennings was about to take her leave, but Rosalind warmly insisted she stay for dinner.

Cecilia tugged at the hem of her clothes, while Candy pawed at her pant leg, both acting cute and spoiled to keep her from leaving.

Renee Jennings didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just as she was about to agree, the ringtone of the phone in her pocket suddenly went off.

The caller ID showed the name "Evan Griffin." She froze for a second, almost unable to remember who this person was.
