Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Might Take Revenge on Humans Everywhere

The middle-aged woman recognized Renee Jennings and walked up to greet her. "Hello there."

"Hello." Renee Jennings gave a slight nod, her gaze falling on the curly-haired cat in the woman’s arms. "What an adorable little cat."

The middle-aged woman, dressed in a pale green cheongsam with a white fur shawl draped over her shoulders, elegantly stroked the curly-haired cat’s back and smiled. "Adorable, yes, but also very mischievous."

"Quite playful." Renee Jennings had no intention of continuing the conversation. She said politely, "We have some work to do, so we won’t interrupt your walk."

"Of course." The middle-aged woman nodded to her and said gently, "When you’re done, if you don’t mind, you’re welcome to come over to my place for a cup of coffee."

"Thank you." Renee Jennings expressed her thanks and left.

Once they were a good distance away, Sawyer asked curiously, "Renee, do you know that woman?"

"No," Renee Jennings said, shaking her head. "We just investigated her house yesterday."

"She’s a bit too friendly," Kyle Morgan muttered.

Renee Jennings nodded in agreement. "I also think she’s strangely enthusiastic."

Hearing this, Sawyer glanced back and saw the middle-aged woman staring in their direction. When the woman noticed her looking, she even waved.

"Holy cow," Sawyer whispered. "She was just staring at our backs the whole time. So creepy."

Kyle Morgan tried to be funny. "Do you think she was admiring my good looks?"

Sawyer and Renee Jennings were both silent.

Kyle Morgan stopped in his tracks, indignant. "Hey, why aren’t you saying anything? Am I not telling the truth?"

Sawyer shot him a glance. "Get back to work. Stop daydreaming."

Kyle Morgan: "..."

A slight smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips. ’These two are so interesting,’ she thought.

There weren’t many small animals nearby. They searched for a long time before finally finding a crow in the green space near the back gate of the villa.

And a haughty one, at that.

Renee Jennings and the others said a few things to it and even tried to lure it with food, but it just glanced down at them from its branch and gave no other reaction.

"What’s going on?" Sawyer looked bewildered. "Why is it ignoring us?"

Kyle Morgan stroked his chin with two fingers, analyzing the situation. "You think it might be deaf?"

Renee Jennings shook her head. "I don’t know."

The crow, perched on the branch, heard the humans slandering it and glared at them indignantly. "Pfft, you’re the deaf ones! My hearing is excellent!"

Renee Jennings: "..."

"It talked!" Sawyer said excitedly.

Kyle Morgan asked curiously, "What’s it chirping about?"

Renee Jennings: "It said its hearing is excellent."

Kyle Morgan looked skeptical. "Excellent? Then why did it ignore us when we were talking to it for so long?"

"Hmph!" the crow snorted. "Why should I bother with you foolish humans! We crows are clearly auspicious, but you humans say we’re birds of ill omen. I spit on that! PTOOEY, PTOOEY, PTOOEY!"

It was clear this crow had a major grudge against humans.

Renee Jennings said gently, "I’m very sorry that crows have been misunderstood for so long."

"I don’t want to talk to you." The crow flapped its wings and flew up to a higher branch, its refusal to communicate perfectly clear.

Renee Jennings pressed her lips together and looked up at it. "Then what will it take for you to talk to me?"

"Huh?" The crow finally seemed to realize. "You can actually understand me?"

"Yes," Renee Jennings nodded, then continued, "Oh, beautiful crow, I know you are sacred birds of good tidings, symbols of luck and wisdom."

’A love of praise must be a trait shared by both humans and animals,’ she thought.

"Oh my heavens!" The crow’s black eyes widened in delighted surprise. "You’re a human with true insight! You’re not like those other humans who despise us."

With that, the crow beat its black wings and slowly flew down, finally hovering in front of Renee Jennings.

"You are an insightful human. I’m willing to talk with you." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Thank you for trusting me." Renee Jennings’s eyes curved into a smile as she held out her hand.

The crow landed gracefully on the web of her thumb, looking at her curiously. "Pretty human girl, you were calling me just now. Are you in some kind of trouble?"

"We have run into a bit of trouble," Renee Jennings said, then introduced herself. "My name is Renee Jennings. I’m a special consultant for the Criminal Investigation Division, and these are my colleagues, Sawyer and Kai."

The crow glanced at Sawyer and Kyle Morgan, then puffed out its chest. "My name is Crow. I am a gentle, beautiful, pretty, and generous crow."

Renee Jennings relayed its self-introduction to the other two.

Kyle Morgan, holding back a laugh, muttered, "So it’s a narcissistic crow."

"What is that human boy saying?" Crow stared warily at Kyle Morgan.

Renee Jennings: "He said your name is very beautiful."

Only then was Crow satisfied. "Of course. It’s the name my grandfather gave me."

"Does your family live around here?" Renee Jennings asked.

"Of course not." Crow shook its head, a hint of sadness in its tone. "I’m just here visiting a relative. He isn’t well. He might be leaving this beautiful world soon."

Renee Jennings: "Is your relative a crow, too?"

Crow: "No, my relative is an owl."

Renee Jennings’s eyes lit up slightly. "Then do you know Baldy the Owl?"

"You know Baldy?" Crow was surprised, its shrill cry suddenly rising in pitch. "He’s my cousin! I came here today to visit his grandfather."

’An owl is a crow’s cousin?’

Renee Jennings really couldn’t figure out how a crow and an owl could be related.

But that wasn’t the question she should be curious about right now.

Renee Jennings suppressed her curiosity and pressed on, "What happened to Baldy’s grandfather?"

"He..." A hostile look appeared on Crow’s face. "He was injured by humans."

Renee Jennings’s brows furrowed, a look of guilt appearing in her eyes. "I’m so sorry."

"It has nothing to do with you." Crow turned out to be a reasonable bird. "I can sense that you’re not like those other detestable humans."

"Is Baldy’s grandfather okay?" Renee Jennings asked with concern.

Crow didn’t know either. "He’s just lying at home, not moving. I talk to him, but he doesn’t react at all. I just feel so bad for poor Baldy. His parents were killed by humans, and now even his grandfather..."

Renee Jennings opened her mouth, but for a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

She could finally understand why Baldy hated humans so much.

’If it were me,’ she thought, ’I’d probably be out for revenge against all humans.’

"Can you let me meet Baldy?" Renee Jennings looked at Crow pleadingly. "Maybe I can find a way to save his grandfather. Human medical equipment is more advanced, so there’s a better chance of saving him."

Crow stared at her in astonishment. "You actually want to help Baldy?"

"Yes," Renee Jennings told it. "I’m not just a human and a special consultant for the Criminal Investigation Division, I’m also a pet lover. I have two cats, two dogs, and a Slider at home. The night before last, a Robin even moved into my house."
