Chapter 141: Asking For Blessings
Vaneira stood up from the sofa.
"And even if he does manage to buy something decent," Vaneira sneered. "It will not matter. If my gift completely buries whatever cheap garbage he bought her, it ruins his pride forever. He will just look like an absolute failure in front of the entire party."
Frankenstein grinned widely. "What exactly do you plan on gifting the girl, my lady?"
"Let us go see." Vaneira said as she stood up and began walking. "I will find something truly spectacular in my treasury. I have hoarded a lot of very good things over the years."
"I am quite sure you do, my lady." Frankenstein nodded and pushed himself up from the couch to follow her.
And the two of them just smiled like villains as they walked down the hallway.
"My lady, do you plan on bringing your husband too? We could use him to show everyone how incapable Adrian is."
"Of course I will."
Adrian finally made it back home and the long trip had completely tired him out. All he wanted to do was go his bedroom and lock the door so he could sleep.
But someone called out his name right as he began to climb the stairs.
"Lord Adrian."
Adrian stopped and turned around.
Serena Ashford was standing near the bottom of the stairs. She held the book he had given her a few weeks back and she looked incredibly nervous as she hugged the thing tight against her chest before walking up and holding it out to him.
"I have read through the whole thing." Serena said softly.
Adrian took the heavy manual from her hands and sent it straight into his dungeon with a simple thought.
"Good." Adrian said. "Did you make a decision?"
"I want to try praying to the Angels, demons, and the Dragons." Serena said, looking down at her shoes.
Adrian raised his eyebrow.
He knew the book contained those specific mythical rituals. But he honestly did not expect her to actually want to try them. Though, he could tell that these methods were the least risky ones among the rest of them.
"Are you sure you want to pray to the Demons?" Adrian asked seriously. "Are you really sure about this?"
Because in this world, people accepted the fact that demons were basically the ultimate evil. They were the eternal enemies of the Gods and the Angels, and praying to a Demon was considered an absolute taboo by the church and the royal family. free𝑤ebnovel.com
It was a widely accepted fact that making deals with demonic entities never ended well. That they always twisted the contract to ruin the user.
"I am sure." Serena nodded as she looked up at him. "You will be with me and... I trust that you will make sure that nothing wrong happens."
Serena gripped the edges of her dress.
"Because I know they will not just bless me for free." Serena explained. "It will mostly likely be a binding contract, exactly like the book warned."
Adrian just stared at her.
’She really did read everything.’ Adrian thought in his mind. ’She understood the risks and she still wants to try. This desperate idiot... oh well, at least this is better than the other methods since it won’t mess with her karma. Though, I won’t really be able to interfere once the connection is formed...
"Fine then." Adrian sighed. "Let us go to the basement."
He didn’t tell her that he wouldn’t be able to do much if she actually got a response but this was for the best. If she actually got help from the angels or dragons, then his method probably wouldn’t even compare to their blessings.
He led the way down the narrow stone stairs. This was where he usually went when he told the household he was doing his physical knight training. In reality, he just used the basement as a reason to not interact with people for days.
But it still functioned as a proper training facility. After all, he had to make it believable.
The basement was a massive, wide open room. Stone blocks covered the floor and they looked exactly like the paved roads outside. Wooden racks stood along the walls and they held basic steel swords, kite shields and some chainmail armor.
The whole basement was cold and totally isolated from the mansion upstairs.
Adrian walked right to the center of the room and pulled a piece of chalk from his pocket before crouching down. He dragged the white chalk against the stone to draw a few complicated magic diagrams. He made three separate circles and filled each one with different runic languages.
Then he stood up and dusted his hands off. freewēbnoveℓ.com
He took a piece of paper out of his coat and handed it over to Serena.
"Sit right in the middle of that first circle." Adrian said. "That paper has the meditative methods and the specific chants you need to use. Do the chant for the Angels first. If nothing happens, move to the next circle."
Serena nodded nervously. She stepped into the first diagram and sat down with her legs crossed.
She read the words on the paper, closed her eyes and began whispering the magic chants.
And Adrian just leaned his back against a wall a few feet away to watch.
Five minutes passed, and then ten.
There was absolutely zero reaction.
Serena opened her eyes and let out a sigh because no reaction meant that the Angels had completely ignored her prayer.
She stood up and moved to the second circle. This was the demonic ritual.
She sat down and began the second chant.
Adrian watched carefully, his hand resting on the hilt of a nearby sword while another ten minutes passed by in total silence.
Zero reaction once again.
Serena stopped chanting. She opened her eyes and Adrian could easily see how relieved she looked. Because she was actually super glad that the demons totally ignored her prayer.
She wanted power really badly but she wasn’t a crazy person.
So she just tossed the paper onto the floor.
