Chapter 1312: Chapter 1309: Showing the Marriage Certificate
"There’s not much left. This kind of haute-couture wedding candy never has much stock to begin with." Cornelius Turner’s subordinate, a young guy with the codename Shadow Blade, shoved the last bag of wedding candy into Cornelius’s hands. He did not mention that they’d bought a whole bunch, but everyone grabbed a bag each and wiped it out. Then they even passed some out to the reporters inside. The fact that Cornelius still got one bag was only because he’d picked it back out of the reporters’ candy.
Cornelius’s face was full of black lines, but having some was better than having none.
"Go buy more. Pick the most expensive, then the second most expensive. The boss is coming. If he sees you guys have already split up all the candy, you can wait to get your asses kicked." Cornelius knew exactly what little schemes they had going on. A bunch of rough guys, not interested in anything except getting rid of their single status and finding wives. Now that their eternal-bachelor boss had finally found someone, these little punks were all hiding a few pieces of wedding candy to take home and worship like koi for good luck.
"Got it, I’ll go buy it right now." Shadow Blade shot off like a streak of smoke to keep buying candy.
After sending the guy off, Cornelius happily poured the candy out of the bag, took a few photos, and posted them to his Moments: Boss’s wedding candy, time for me to soak up some good luck.
Moments was something Cornelius only started playing with after he washed clean and came to Brocade City. But people in their line of work are very cautious. His WeChat contacts were basically just his own brothers and a few acquaintances, and they hardly ever posted, never revealed their whereabouts or any personal privacy.
Especially Cornelius—sticking to Griffith Squire’s side, a random status post from him could leak Griffith’s location. Counting it up, this was actually the first Moments post Cornelius had ever made.
As soon as Cornelius’s Moments went up, there was a reaction over in the Imperial City.
"Old Madam, is Miss Leah’s brother getting married today?" Auntie Zhao had Cornelius on WeChat. She’d originally planned to introduce a girlfriend to this young man. Plus she often needed to buy groceries, and at that time Cornelius was in charge of security at the Shaw Mansion, so with all the back-and-forth they naturally added each other.
Auntie Zhao was getting up there in age, keeping the Old Madam company at the Shaw Mansion in her retirement. She bustled around with not much to do, so when she was free she’d scroll through Moments—so she instantly saw Cornelius’s post.
Griffith Squire had only just returned to Brocade City yesterday. Leah and Richard Shaw were still at the Shaw Mansion, they hadn’t had time to go stay at the little cabin yet.
"My brother?" Leah happened to be coming downstairs with Richard Shaw, and was a bit dumbfounded when she heard that.
Richard lowered his tea-colored eyes and silently took Leah’s phone. His long, nimble fingers swiped once and saw the Moments Griffith had posted one minute ago: "Mrs. Squire, please take care of me for the rest of my life."
The picture was their wedding photo: the man handsome with a wicked edge, the woman pure and captivating; even the wedding photo looked unreal-level gorgeous.
Richard’s face stayed expressionless as he clenched the phone. That bastard actually skipped straight over confession, dating, fights, breakups, getting back together—all those steps—and just marched right into the hall of marriage!!!
"Let me see, let me see. Why don’t you add Griffith on WeChat yourself?" Leah craned her neck over, saw Griffith’s Moments, and instantly let out a "Wah!" of surprise. Delighted, she said, "Whoa, for real, my brother actually looks pretty good on camera."
Richard was dying inside. He’d tried to add Griffith on WeChat, but Griffith rejected him and wouldn’t pass the friend request!
Seeing how carefree Leah was, the man felt even more bitter and said heavily, "Your brother’s already married."
When are you going to marry me, hmm?
"Aoo aoo aoo, damn Griffith, he actually got married without telling me, I’m flying to Brocade City to beat him up right now." Leah couldn’t hear the subtext in Richard’s words at all. She snatched her phone back, gritting her teeth as she cursed Griffith while dialing Delphine.
"My brother, my brother, my brother’s married!!!" As soon as the call connected, Leah exclaimed in disbelief. "Delphine, he actually got married without telling me, that’s way too much."
"Griffith Squire got married?" Delphine was just as stunned. "To Aurora Coldwell?"
"Yep, yep, yep. Delphine, I’m flying to Brocade City right away, do you want to come with me?" Leah said, already heading upstairs to pack.
"I’ll go. See you in Brocade City." Delphine hung up after she finished.
Standing on the stairs, Richard looked at the bewildered Old Madam and Auntie Zhao. "Grandma, I’m going to Brocade City with Leah."
"He really got married? Then we should bring wedding gifts, right? Auntie Zhao, come on, let’s go to the storage room and pick out some more expensive gifts to send over. We can’t lose face on etiquette." The Old Madam of the Shaw Family spoke as she hurriedly stood up and tugged Auntie Zhao off to choose wedding presents.
In the huge living room, the forgotten Richard Shaw: "???"
The man irritably raked a hand through his very short-cropped hair, sat down in front of the fireplace, and sent a message to Ignatius Leclair: "Griffith Squire got married."
He’d originally come downstairs to eat, and now the entire family had been blown away by the red bomb of Griffith’s marriage and no one remembered dinner.
"Yeah, Delphine’s packing. Tell me, what the hell does that bastard’s wedding have to do with us?" Ignatius sounded even more resentful. "My trip with Delphine is ruined!"
"Heading to Brocade City?" Richard sent a question mark.
"We are." Ignatius let out a cold laugh. Getting married, huh? That’s a huge happy event. When it’s time to mess up the bridal chamber, he was going to play Griffith to death.
Back in Brocade City, Griffith Squire took Aurora Coldwell straight from the Civic Bureau to the press conference venue. Seeing Cornelius sitting at the reception desk at the door counting wedding candy, he was half exasperated, half amused.
"Look at you, no ambition at all. I’ll set you up on blind dates later—one a day." The man grinned wickedly, his big hand still tightly holding Aurora’s. Ever since they walked out of the Civic Bureau, the two of them hadn’t let go once.
"Heh, Boss, everyone’s praying to koi for luck nowadays. We’re just trying to soak up some of your good fortune." Cornelius stood up, laughing a bit sheepishly. He glanced at Aurora and quickly corrected himself, "Hello, Madam."
A faint blush climbed up Aurora’s cheeks, and she looked a bit shy. She was still in a daze. Yesterday Griffith had said, "Let’s get married," and this morning the two of them went to get the license. This was probably the craziest thing she’d ever done in her entire life.
But she felt it was thrilling. If she was going to spend the rest of her life with Griffith Squire, her poor little heart was going to need a lot more training.
"Alright, enough nonsense. Let’s go to the press conference." Griffith said with a smile, in an excellent mood, and led Aurora into the venue.
The atmosphere inside was lively and cheerful. It was the first time the media reporters had ever been treated like this—wedding candy and desserts everywhere, everything so sweet it hurt their teeth, plus red envelopes to collect. When Griffith appeared, little stars practically burst out of their eyes. A high-value, big-spending boss—please give them a dozen more press conferences like this!
Griffith was dressed unbearably handsome: white dress shirt, black suit pants. Aurora matched him, also in a modest white shirt and a black pleated skirt below, pure as a college student.
"They’re wearing couple outfits," an eagle-eyed reporter blurted.
"Exactly. Wedding candy, sweets, red envelopes, couple outfits!"
Everyone looked at each other and said in unison, "They got married?"
