Chapter 1300: Chapter 1297: Get Out of Here

Upon hearing news about Griffith Squire, Aurora Coldwell’s complexion turned a shade paler. She looked at Brooke Coldwell and softly asked, "How did you find out about the news from the Imperial City?"

Brocade City, located in the Southwest Region, had no reach into the Imperial City, let alone the ability to inquire about sensitive events.

"My mother naturally has her ways," Brooke Coldwell casually responded, having only heard Zoe Kingston mention it briefly, and not knowing the details, she brushed it off.

Aurora’s fingertips turned slightly cold, her heart tightening painfully. Suddenly, she wanted to drop everything in Brocade City and rush to the Imperial City, to be closer to him in any way possible. She initially wanted to prove herself, to become stronger, even willing to speak to people she disliked. But upon hearing of his misfortune, she suddenly realized that all her efforts were meaningless.

If something happened to Griffith Squire, what would it matter if she stood firm in Brocade City and reclaimed everything that was rightfully hers? What would be the point?

The thought of going to the Imperial City, like wild grass growing unrestrained, swayed in her mind. Aurora’s fingertips clenched tightly into her palm, bringing a sharp wakeful pain; she was determined to go to the Imperial City.

Meanwhile, Ian Coldwell had already recovered his breath.

Zoe Kingston added fuel to the fire, saying, "Aurora, your father just woke up. You mustn’t make any unreasonable demands and upset him. Let Lawyer Liu head back first; your father is still in good shape."

Zoe’s words, laced with hidden meanings, instantly alerted Ian, who snapped, "What, are you all hoping for my death?"

Aurora came back to her senses, ironically admiring her stepmother’s skill at stirring trouble and distorting truths.

Ian looked at his second wife and younger daughter, who were fussing over him, then at his elder daughter, who he’d not seen for half a month, emotionless. In an instant, he determined which side he was on and shouted at Aurora, "Get out."

As he spoke, he pushed a vase off the table, shattering it with a crisp sound on the floor.

Aurora glanced up at her father. From the year she lost her ability to speak, she had become utterly worthless in his eyes. All his affection went to Brooke Coldwell, fueled by the pillow talk of her stepmother. If not for wanting her mother’s inheritance, her father probably wouldn’t have acknowledged her existence.

Yet, he likely never considered that the wife and daughter he favored wished for his early death to inherit his wealth.

The butler and Lawyer Liu exchanged glances, uncomfortable but with no grounds to speak in such a setting. Mr. Coldwell truly was heartless toward his elder daughter.

Aurora’s clear eyes were fixed on her father, her gaze perhaps too unfamiliar and indifferent, causing Ian to feel a sudden flare of anger, his expression turning colder. She was nothing but a liability, unable to speak, only managing to curry favor, and now Griffith Squire was in big trouble, a situation that might implicate the Coldwell Family.

Ian now wished nothing more than to disown this daughter.

Without a word, Aurora quickly averted her gaze, expressionless as she turned and left the hospital room.

The old butler and Lawyer Liu exchanged a look and swiftly followed her out.

"Miss, Mr. Coldwell might be in a bad mood because of his illness. Please don’t take it to heart," the old butler said worriedly.

"That’s right, perhaps things will improve over time," Lawyer Liu added. As a lawyer, his information was the most up-to-date; the matters in the Imperial City now affected the Coldwell Family, and it was understandable that Aurora was temporarily sidelined.

The two had been worried Aurora would feel hurt, but when she turned to face them, there was not a trace of sadness on her face. Her eyes even brightened as she said, "Uncle Liu, I plan to leave Brocade City for a while; I’ll have to trouble you and Uncle Yang to keep an eye on things here."

Her father likely would be pushed by her stepmother to make a will; with her absence from Brocade City, everything would have to rely on Lawyer Liu.

"Miss, where are you going?" the old butler asked anxiously.

"The Imperial City," Aurora said these three words, feeling a sudden surge of joy. Her relatives in Brocade City saw her as a thorn in their side, and she did not wish to stay and be an eyesore.

"To find Mr. Squire? Excellent, excellent, I’ll book your flight right away, Miss," the old butler exclaimed, beaming with joy.

When Griffith Squire called back to Brocade City, Aurora was already on the plane, perfectly missing the call.

"Aurora is coming to the Imperial City? On a plane right now?" Griffith’s voice, still a bit hoarse, couldn’t help but curl into a smile at the news, only to pull at his wound and result in a coughing fit he tried to suppress.

"Mr. Squire, are you alright? The rumors outside are brutal, and Miss has been worried and frightened for half a month. She’s even caught a cold and a fever," the old butler prattled on at Griffith.

"I’m okay; you just stay at ease in Brocade City. I’ll return as soon as I’m healed," Griffith reassured the old butler. Unable to speak much further, he hung up and instructed Cornelius Turner to pick Aurora up from the airport and bring her directly to the hospital.

"Got it, boss. I’ll make sure to complete the task," Cornelius replied, full of enthusiasm, delighted that Miss Coldwell was coming to the Imperial City.

Brocade City was in a chaotic state, and while the boss needed time to recuperate, he couldn’t handle those people there. With Miss Coldwell in Brocade City, they always worried for her safety. Coming to the Imperial City was good; the boss was injured and needed the nourishment of love; otherwise, constantly witnessing Miss Coldwell and Major General Xie flaunting their affection could easily twist his heart.

Cornelius mused happily, but as soon as he stepped out of the ward, he looked up to see Miss Leah, who had been interrogating Major General Xie, now being pressed down by him.

The handsome, coldly serious man had Leah in an embrace, whispering into her ear. The sight of the handsome man and beautiful woman was quite captivating, and the deserted hospital corridor was filled with an inexplicable romantic atmosphere.

Sensing a gaze on them, the man slightly raised his eyes, a sharp glint flashing through his tea-colored eyes.

Cornelius swiftly turned his head and fled.

Leah glanced upward, catching sight of Cornelius’s retreating figure. At once, she pinched the man’s arm, coquettishly saying, "It’s all your fault. We’re outside; you should at least try to maintain some decorum."

Dragged to the corner of the wall, faced with pressing questions, and nearly caught in a compromising position, Major General Xie felt a bit wronged. Seeing her face with a faint blush, an indescribable stunning beauty, he immediately darkened his gaze and confessingly said, "I was wrong, I won’t pin you against the wall outside anymore; let’s wait until we get home for that instead!"

Leah: "..."

"You haven’t even told me if you had a fight with my brother earlier. He looked off; don’t you know to restrain yourself? He’s temperamental, just like a child," Leah scolded him with a flushed face, trying to change the subject.

Griffith Squire, who was as temperamental as a child, lay on the hospital bed with an innocent expression, perfectly taking the hit.

"Hmm, next time I’ll let your brother have the upper hand," the man replied. Her winking, alluring peach-blossom eyes caused his body to tense, his heart completely captivated as he lowered his head slowly toward her.
