Chapter 949: Chapter 976: Mia Ginger’s Return (2)
"Two dollars."
Mia Ginger handed over the money, twisted open the cap, took a couple of sips, and then packed the remaining half bottle into her backpack.
She picked up her phone to text Koa Jackson.
"What are you up to?"
"Working." Koa Jackson quickly replied with two words.
Of course, she knew he was working. Mia Ginger let out a stifled laugh, feeling a bit annoyed, and then asked, "Are you at the clinic or the office? No surgeries today?"
"In the office. I have a conference at another hospital tomorrow, preparing for it."
"Oh."
Mia Ginger replied with one word, then put away her phone.
She hadn’t even reached the hospital yet, when her phone buzzed again. Koa Jackson asked her, "Up so early today? Have you had breakfast?"
"Yeah, had eggs, two of them." Mia Ginger pulled her suitcase along, texting back as she walked, teasing Koa Jackson as if she were still abroad.
Soon, she arrived at the inpatient department.
Walking up the stairs with a suitcase was inconvenient, so she took the elevator once she reached the hallway.
Getting closer, she suddenly felt a bit nervous.
Having been abroad for two years, she participated in many club activities and typically only returned home during the winter and summer breaks. Considering everything, it had been six months since she last came back, and whenever Koa Jackson had the time, he would visit her. The most recent visit being three months ago.
After counting carefully, they hadn’t seen each other in nearly a hundred days.
Winter had passed, spring had gone by, and summer had come. Had he changed at all?
She missed him terribly.
With these thoughts, Mia Ginger stood outside Koa Jackson’s office.
Almost bumped into someone.
"Lil..." Felix Lopez just started speaking when Mia Ginger tugged him aside by the sleeve and whispered, "Why are you being so loud?"
"How did you come back?" Felix Lopez lowered his voice and asked, "Weren’t you supposed to return on Friday?"
"I wanted to surprise him." Mia Ginger pouted and asked, "Is Brother Jackson inside now?"
"Yes."
Mia Ginger pulled him aside, sneakily peeking inside. Soon enough, she saw Koa Jackson, seated upright, back straight, focused and absorbed, writing with a pen, his movements smooth.
Watching him, Mia Ginger started to feel a bit entranced.
And then—
Koa Jackson suddenly looked up at her without any warning.
Mia Ginger: "..."
Koa Jackson’s expression froze for a moment, holding the pen in one hand, suspended in mid-air. After a while, he regained his composure, but his gaze remained fixed on her. His fingers moved, capping the pen, then placing it into the pocket of his white coat.
Before Mia Ginger could go in, he stepped out.
Standing up straight, Mia Ginger let out a dry laugh, "Good afternoon, Dr. Jackson."
Koa Jackson: "..."
Scanning her up and down, he hesitated, "Did you... come early?"
"Uh-huh." Mia Ginger rubbed her hands, "Isn’t it a surprise?"
Koa Jackson’s thin lips curved into a gentle arc, carrying a hint of a laugh that wouldn’t fully appear. His bright, sharp eyes fixated on her, and after a while, the smile surfaced at the corners of his lips as he opened his arms to her.
Mia Ginger dashed forward to hug his waist tightly, nuzzling him, and playfully said, "I’ve missed you."
Koa Jackson lifted her ponytail and glanced at it, his palm settling on her nape, gently massaging it, as if comforting a small animal.
Felix Lopez was still nearby, so Mia Ginger, feeling shy, didn’t hug for long before letting go. Looking up, she explained, "It’s Qixi Festival tomorrow, so I wanted to come back and spend it with you. I dumped all my stuff on Bob Ginger and told him to take care of it."
