Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Daddy, Kick Noelle Lockwood Out
Without thinking, Laura Jennings said, "Christian, Noelle put so much effort into this. How could it possibly taste bad..."
"If Grandma likes it so much, she can drink it herself," Zachery pouted.
"Grandma, I suggest you stop talking. If you say one more word, I’ll be tempted to ask Daddy to get a DNA test with you. I want to see if you’re his biological mother or Noelle Lockwood’s."
"A moment ago, you forced me to apologize, and now you’re trying to force me to say this tastes good?"
Laura Jennings awkwardly shut her mouth. "That’s not what I meant, Christian, but Noelle’s intentions were good..."
Zachery couldn’t be bothered to listen. He looked at Noelle Lockwood. "What are you standing around for? How dare you serve me something this disgusting? Go remake it."
Noelle Lockwood was so furious she nearly ground her teeth to dust.
’What is wrong with this little bastard today! He used to eat whatever I gave him, but now he’s suddenly being picky!’
She put on a wronged expression, her face full of sorrow, and looked at Nathaniel Sloan with tear-filled eyes. "Nathaniel..."
Nathaniel Sloan didn’t even spare her a glance. "Since Christian doesn’t like it, go remake it."
No matter how unwilling she was, Noelle Lockwood could only return to the kitchen.
Estelle Lockwood watched from the side with great interest.
A little over ten minutes later, Noelle Lockwood came back with a second bowl of soup. "Christian, try this one..."
"BLECH, BLECH, BLECH! This is disgusting! Are you trying to kill me with sweetness?"
Then came the third bowl.
"It’s scalding hot! And why isn’t there any sugar?"
The fourth bowl.
"This doesn’t taste like pear at all. It’s awful!"
The fifth bowl.
"Aunt Noelle, why don’t you try it yourself? Are you deliberately messing with me just because I’m a kid?"
Noelle Lockwood was about to lose her mind with rage.
’To stay at Imperial Crest and make a good impression on Nathaniel, I actually made this little bastard five bowls of pear soup, and he’s still not satisfied!’
Laura Jennings couldn’t stand it anymore. "Nathaniel..." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"It’s alright, Auntie. It’s my fault. I’ll just go and remake it again."
With tears in her eyes, Noelle Lockwood shook her head helplessly, subtly conveying a message to everyone: It’s not that my soup is bad; it’s that Christian is deliberately making things difficult for me.
This display made Laura Jennings’s heart ache for her even more. "Nathaniel, you can’t let Christian go on like this. Noelle is his mother! You were just like this when you were little, and you weren’t close to me when you grew up. I can’t let that tragedy repeat itself..."
A flash of impatience crossed Nathaniel Sloan’s brow. "Mom!"
Zachery pouted. ’What the heck? I’m just like my scumbag dad was as a kid?’
’No, no, no, I’m just pretending. I don’t want to be like my scumbag dad. If I’m too much like him, I’ll grow up to be a scumbag man!’
Just then, Noelle Lockwood came out of the kitchen again.
She sighed at Laura Jennings. "It’s alright. As long as Christian is happy, I’m willing to remake it as many times as it takes."
Noelle Lockwood had it all planned out. As long as Christian continued to act unreasonably, she could win everyone’s sympathy. Then, staying at Imperial Crest wouldn’t be difficult.
However...
"Wow, this one is delicious!"
Zachery nodded, a look of surprise on his face. "So Aunt Noelle does know how to make soup. What were you doing the last few times?"
Noelle Lockwood’s plan was suddenly thrown into disarray. She was speechless for a couple of seconds but then quickly put on a gentle smile. "As long as you like it, Christian."
Laura Jennings wanted to score points for Noelle Lockwood. "Nathaniel, look how happy Christian is! Listen to me, you have to let his real mother stay by his side. Christian’s fondness for that Yara Lockwood is just temporary. In time, he’ll realize that the person who treats him best in the world is his own mother..."
"Aunt Yara, this is for you! I’ve already tasted it, and it’s really good this time!"
A clear voice cut off Laura Jennings’s words.
Laura Jennings and Noelle Lockwood’s eyes widened in an instant as they whipped their heads around.
They saw Christian carry the pear soup over to Yara Lockwood, fawning over her. "Aunt Yara, I heard you love pear soup, right? Here, drink up! This is a token of Aunt Noelle’s goodwill. We can’t let it go to waste!"
Estelle Lockwood: "..."
Nathaniel Sloan raised an eyebrow.
Laura Jennings was in disbelief. "Wait, Christian, you’re giving the pear soup to Yara?!"
Zachery nodded. "Yeah. Is there a problem?"
A huge problem!
Laura Jennings was furious. A look of contempt appeared on her face, and she was just short of pointing at Yara Lockwood and cursing her out. "Noelle specially prepared that soup for you! What do you mean by giving it to someone else? I knew this Yara Lockwood was up to no good!"
Noelle Lockwood shed a tear. "Auntie, please don’t be angry. It’s okay. Doctor Yara has been taking care of Christian recently, so it’s only natural that he likes her."
Laura Jennings fumed, "No! I can’t bear to watch this! He’s already protecting her like this and disrespecting you right in front of us. What will happen in the future? It looks to me like a certain homewrecker is desperate to climb the social ladder!"
Zachery’s expression darkened. "Grandma, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Noelle Lockwood gave the soup to me, so what’s wrong with me giving it to someone else?"
Laura Jennings put her hands on her hips. "That was a token of Noelle’s goodwill! Nathaniel, you tell me, isn’t Christian being too unreasonable? I’m going to get justice for Noelle today!"
"Goodwill?" Zachery gave a cold smile. "But I don’t even like pear soup. What kind of goodwill is that?"
Laura Jennings was convinced he was lying. "How is that possible! You’ve even learned to lie for Yara’s sake. This can’t go on without some discipline..."
"From the very beginning, it was Noelle Lockwood who said I liked pear soup, and Grandma just decided it must be true. But Grandpa Chapman, Grandma Riddle, you’ve taken care of me at Imperial Crest for so long. Did you know I like pear soup?"
Chapman and Ms. Riddle exchanged a glance, then shook their heads.
Chapman stepped forward and said, "The Young Master has never asked for pear soup. He usually prefers lotus seed soup."
Ms. Riddle also nodded. "That’s right... The last time I made a pot of pear soup, the Young Master didn’t touch a single bite. It seems he really doesn’t like it."
The color drained from Noelle Lockwood’s face.
Zachery looked at Nathaniel Sloan again. "Daddy, I’m the only young master in this house, right? Whatever I want to eat or drink, everyone will prepare it for me."
Nathaniel Sloan patted his head. "Yes."
Zachery reasoned, "So, if I liked pear soup, it’s impossible that the butler, the chef, the maids, and the nannies wouldn’t know."
He had a point. Never mind Chapman; even Ms. Riddle and some of the other servants earned over a hundred thousand a month. Taking good care of the young master and understanding his preferences was their job.
But the young master had never once mentioned liking pear soup.
"Since nobody knew, why did Grandma believe it just because Aunt Noelle said so? Even I didn’t know when I started loving pear soup."
Zachery was blunt. "Aunt Noelle, you claim you’re taking care of me with all your heart, but you don’t even know my preferences. I don’t like pear soup, yet you run and tattle to Grandma, making her scold me for lying."
"What ’all your heart’? You’re just putting on a show for everyone else! Daddy, I don’t like her. Make her get the hell out!"
Nathaniel Sloan looked at Noelle Lockwood, his expression cold.
