Chapter 19: Hubby Honey

Sam hesitated for a moment before asking cautiously, "Mrs. Sloan, about this..."

Should he send Noelle away?

Before he could finish, Estelle’s lips curved slightly with interest. "Ask Nathaniel."

Sam turned to Nathaniel instead. The latter frowned faintly.

Just then, a coquettish voice rang out from the doorway. "Nathaniel, why did you leave home without me?"

Noelle stepped into the office in an elegant skirt, swaying gracefully as she walked. She smiled at Sam. "Hello, Mr.Miller. I’m the boy’s mother. I came specifically for his registration, but I got held up on the way. I’m so sorry."

She moved naturally to Nathaniel’s side, acting as though they were a proper couple. "Nathaniel, have you finished the paperwork? Did you explain Christian’s situation to the director?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Sam frowned slightly, and a trace of disdain flashed across his eyes. He couldn’t understand how a mistress could be so brazen in front of the wife.

Noelle was so caught up in her performance that she failed to notice his reaction.

She continued in a falsely sweet tone. "Mr. Miller, thank you for taking care of Christian. But he’s very sickly, and I’m always worried about him. I raised Christian myself because Nathaniel is always busy with work, so he’s used to having me around. We only decided to send him to kindergarten so he could learn a little independence. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have the heart to leave him here..."

The room fell silent. Everyone turned to look at her.

Only then did Noelle sense that something was wrong, though her smile remained in place. "Christian, come here. I’m here—"

Before she could finish, her gaze landed on Estelle, and her expression nearly cracked. "What are you doing here?!"

Realizing she had lost her composure, she quickly adjusted her tone and forced a gentle smile. "I mean... I didn’t expect to see you here, Dr. Lockwood. What a coincidence. Nathaniel, did you bring her here too? Honestly, Nathaniel, you shouldn’t trouble Dr. Lockwood with our family affairs, should you?"

She turned to Estelle with the air of a hostess. "Dr. Lockwood, there’s nothing here for you to worry about. You can leave now."

Sam finally couldn’t hold back any longer. "Miss Noelle, don’t you feel even a little guilty saying that? They’re the children’s actual parents, bringing their own children here for enrollment. Who do you think you are, inserting yourself between them and making comments?"

Noelle’s expression stiffened. "Mr. Miller, what are you talking about? I don’t understand..."

Mia tilted her head innocently, cutting through the act. "You don’t understand, Miss Noelle? But even I understand what that means. My daddy is here, so of course Mommy will be here too! She’s here for our enrollment.

"What do you mean by saying she’s an outsider, Miss Noelle? I don’t really understand, Mr. Miller, but Miss Noelle isn’t even related to us. Why is she acting like our mommy when our real mommy is here and being called an outsider?"

Sam’s expression softened instantly. "Mia, just ignore her. Some people enjoy being homewreckers."

Noelle’s mind went blank.

What was that supposed to mean? Had he just said that Yara was Mrs. Sloan?

No way. She should be Mrs. Sloan, no matter what!

She quickly recovered. "Mr. Miller, you’ve got the wrong idea. Yara is just our family doctor. I’m the one—"

"Hubby, honey, aren’t you going to say something?" Estelle suddenly cut in.

She raised an eyebrow and casually took hold of Nathaniel’s wrist.

Smiling lightly, she told Noelle, "Miss Lockwood, I know you like Nathaniel, but you can’t keep imagining that you’re his wife, can you? That’s a little delusional, don’t you think?"

Nathaniel’s sharp gaze landed on her.

Estelle met it without fear and even lifted her brows slightly in challenge.

She clearly remembered that seven years ago, she had stood outside a restaurant trying to enter as Nathaniel’s wife, only to be stopped at the door. She had tried to explain that she was Nathaniel’s wife and wanted to go home with him.

Then her dear sister Noelle had walked out, stood beside Nathaniel in front of his business partners, and said with a sigh, "Estelle, why do you keep calling Nathaniel hubby, honey? People might think you’re trying to scam him."

Nathaniel had said nothing. He had allowed Noelle to drive Estelle away while apologizing to his business partners.

"I’m sorry, but my sister Estelle likes Nathaniel and always imagines herself as his wife. Sorry you all have to see this," Noelle had said.

Back in the present, Estelle looked at Nathaniel with interest, waiting to see how he would react.

Nathaniel withdrew his gaze and turned to Noelle. "Go home."

"Nathaniel, you can’t..." Noelle bit her lip, and tears instantly welled in her eyes. "I’m Christian’s mother! Dr. Lockwood has other motives. She’s just trying to—"

"Haven’t you had enough?!"

A man’s voice suddenly cut her off.

It was the first day of school enrollment, and many parents had brought their children with them. After witnessing the scene, some could no longer hold back.

"This is a kindergarten! Stop making a scene in front of the children, you mistress!"

"Exactly! You’re setting a terrible example for them."

"The children are here for registration with their parents. What are you even doing here?"

The rumors about Nathaniel and Noelle had circulated only within upper-class circles. Although the kindergarten was also an elite institution attended by many wealthy families, not everyone belonged to those social circles. Naturally, many of them had no idea about the story.

Sam’s expression darkened. "Miss Lockwood, leave now, or I will call security. If this gets out of hand, your reputation as a mistress will spread far beyond our kindergarten. That would be far more embarrassing for you than for us, wouldn’t it?"

Tears streamed down Noelle’s face as she turned away in humiliation.

"I... I can’t win against you, Dr. Lockwood... Fine. I’ll leave." She ran out in a pitiful rush, as though she were the victim.

Seeing that, Estelle leaned slightly toward Nathaniel and whispered, "Mr. Sloan, I scared off your little sweetheart. Aren’t you going after her?"

Nathaniel’s expression darkened. "Dr. Lockwood, your shamelessness is truly impressive. I’m surprised."

She had called him "hubby" in front of everyone without the slightest hesitation.

Estelle nodded naturally. "Thank you. I have many impressive qualities. You can expect even more surprises in the future."

Sam’s smile returned as soon as Noelle disappeared. "Mr. Sloan and Mrs. Sloan, we’re holding a parent-child photo event today. Would you like to join?

"We’ll print the photos and display them on the kindergarten wall. You two make such a perfect couple, and the children are all so handsome, pretty, and adorable. I’ll put your photo right in the center."

Nathaniel frowned slightly.

Before he could refuse, the three children nodded eagerly. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Yes! I want to take a photo!"

"Daddy, just say yes."

"It’s your honor to take a photo with such a beautiful, gentle, and kind mommy like ours!"
