Chapter 70: Luna Of The Bloodmoon Pack

"Savage fighters?" I repeated after her, raising an eyebrow. I tried my best to look as interested in what she had to say as possible.

She huffed, turning up her nose snootily. Sienna pretended not to care, but I could tell that she was pleased she had somehow caught my interest, rather than having me fight over who was truly Lucien’s mate. In her eyes, it was probably the same as acknowledging she was the better of us.

"Yes," she said. "The Bloodmoon Pack differs from other packs. In most traditional werewolf packs, the position of Alpha is passed down from father to son, or even son-in-law. Otherwise, they might hand-pick a successor they favor," Sienna explained.

"It’s different for the Bloodmoon Pack," Georgia said excitedly. "The position of Alpha is― ouch!"

She hissed in pain as Sienna’s fist collided with her stomach, causing her to gasp sharply for air. Georgia recoiled, peeking at Sienna from the corner of her eye as she stepped back in silence. freewёbnoνel.com

Sienna cleared her throat. "In the Bloodmoon Pack, all men have an equal chance to become the Alpha," she said. "However, they must fight and beat the previous Alpha for this position. Even if they’ve won, for a set period of time, any other member of the pack may challenge the successor for the position. The Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack must be the strongest of us all."

"You said all men," I said pointedly. "In that case, do the same rules apply for the Luna?"

"Yes," Isabella said. "That makes Sienna the strongest of us."

"And only the strongest female can be the Alpha’s mate," Georgia wheezed out from the back.

"How interesting," I muttered, pretending to be thoroughly impressed.

To an extent, I was impressed. I knew that Lucien was fairly capable, especially if he was related to the Hadeon family. However, for him to be the strongest of what I assumed was a pack of rogues, that had to be a new achievement.

Rogues were known to play dirty, and they fought a lot more mercilessly than normal wolves did. More often than not, they went for the kill. Morality wasn’t a word in their dictionary.

But for Lucien to be a part of this pack, that meant that he was a rogue as well. There were some people walking around the campsite who didn’t bear the same mark of banished wolves. So, it didn’t mean that everyone here was a disgraced wolf cast out of their pack.

For a second, I wondered if that was the case for Lucien. What about Ralph and Zeke in that case? I couldn’t seem to recall whether or not their forearms had the mark of rogues.

"So now you understand," Sienna said haughtily. "Lucien already has a mate. Not everyone can become his partner, so you’d better not be holding your breath on it."

"I understand," I slowly said, "that what you’re saying is that you’re just the Luna of this pack, but not Lucien’s mate."

Sienna’s face instantly scrunched into itself as though she bit into a lemon.

"Are you an idiot?" she shrieked. "I literally just said―"

"That the strongest she-wolf becomes the Luna of the pack," I filled in for her. "You didn’t say that Lucien picked you to be his chosen mate, and you most definitely didn’t say that you are his fated mate. If it were any of those two, you would’ve already admitted to it. They would’ve been much more credible than the roundabout method that you ultimately chose to go with."

"I am his Luna," Sienna insisted. "That makes me the most viable option―"

"Not everyone can become his mate," I said, throwing Sienna’s words back at her. "I wouldn’t hold my breath on it."

When Sienna realized that I had just used her own words against her, her face turned red and purple. It cycled through multiple colors of the rainbow before darkening like a storm cloud.

"You little bitch!" she yelled.

Without another word of warning, she struck forward. She had partially shifted so that her claws could extend from her nailbeds, turning razor-sharp. I side-stepped just in time, and she caught nothing but thin air.

Once she realized that she had missed, she growled, looking even more pissed off. She glared at the two women who were watching on the sidelines, snapping, "What are you two waiting for? Get her!"

The two women lunged forward instantly at her command, their arms making a grab for me. However, for some reason, it felt as though they were moving in slow motion. I could predict their movements even before they executed them.

Dodging them quickly became a breeze. I moved out of their reach, and even when they increased the speed of their movements, I was surprisingly still able to keep up. Eventually, they started to pant, their energy quickly depleting when they’ve caught nothing but air time after time. Their faces also turned increasingly frustrated.

"Useless," Sienna spat out the word under her breath.

With a crackle of bones, she shifted into her wolf. She was a lot larger than many other she-wolves I had seen, and I could definitely see why she was chosen as the Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack. Even just by looking at her, I could tell that she was a strong fighter and a formidable opponent.

She snarled, baring her teeth. Her sharp canines caught the light of the sun. With that as her only warning, she pounced forward. I threw myself out of the way at the last second, and she managed to nip off the corner of my shirt.

Sienna skidded to a stop, spitting out the small piece of torn fabric. Her posture was low, and she quickly repositioned herself before swiping forward again. Her paws hit the mark this time, even though her claws didn’t. She slammed me onto the ground, and I hissed in pain as I flew several meters away.

The twigs and dirt on the forest ground left red scratches along my skin. I clenched my jaw, trying my best not to make a sound.

I heard a growl from above. I looked up at once, just in time to see that Sienna had pounced into the air, about to slam right onto me.
