Chapter 112: Violet’s Duplicity
The realization made my heart race with alarm. I needed to see my sister for myself and warn her of Violet’s duplicity before Violet tried anything. Even if she wasn’t conscious for me to warn, I needed to protect her.
I knew that Violet would definitely try to hurt her again. She was ready to all but kill me when she found out I was the triplets’ fated mate. She wouldn’t do any less for Willow.
Willow’s return, regardless of whether she accepted the triplets or not, directly threatened her interests.
More importantly, if Violet was indeed responsible for Willow going missing to begin with, she would spare no expense in tying up this loose end. There would be no better chance now, when Willow was weakened to exhaustion. She might even pin her death on me again.
"I need to go," I declared, forcing myself to sit up as my muscles protested at the sudden exertion.
"Go where?" Soren asked, half-panicking as he placed his hands on my shoulders. "Do you need the toilet? It’s just the door there― I’ll help you up―"
"I don’t need the washroom. I need to see Willow," I gritted out. "Where is she? Is she awake?"
"She’s still unconscious," Rowan said, and I felt my heart sink. "The healers are still monitoring her condition, and they’ll inform us if anything changes. You going there would make no difference to her."
"You don’t know that," I argued. "I was the one who found her to begin with. Maybe she’ll respond if I speak to her again―"
"You can do that once you’re feeling better. You and Willow both need time to recuperate," Soren added with a furrow between his eyebrows. "Willow wouldn’t want you to tire yourself out worrying about her."
He then gave my shoulders a gentle, yet firm shove, so my upper body smacked right back into the cushions.
I frowned. They were surprisingly insistent on not letting me see Willow. I guessed they were simply too terrified of me telling Willow about their actions towards me. I let out a cold snort and crossed my arms.
"Fine. Since the two of you aren’t going to be supportive, then get lost. You are what’s disturbing my precious rest," I snarled, pointing to the exit. My annoyance greatly boosted my daring. "Scram. Now."
Soren and Rowan exchanged a wordless glance.
"Did I stutter?" I demanded hotly, glaring at both of them. "Leave!"
Finally, they began to move like lethargic old men in need of leg transplants, shuffling slowly to the door. I kept my arm steady until they reached the threshold of the door. Soren and Rowan gave me one last hopeful look.
Did they expect me to wave them goodbye? I continued to glare at them coldly. "Out."
Rowan said, "We will come again to visit you."
"If you want anything to eat, or just anything at all, just press the button!" Soren added. "We’ll be right here."
"No, thank you," I retorted without thinking.
Now that he said so, I was going to lock my door and chuck the call button controller into the toilet bowl. I narrowed my eyes and watched as they finally left the room, closing the door behind them with a thud.
I had no doubt they were just lingering outside, waiting to catch me, since I did learn a little something about all my failed escape attempts. I sneered to myself.
I simply needed to wait for them to leave, since I knew their schedule in the pack. They would still be swamped with responsibilities after their little truancy stunt― and if Cassian was truly parked beside Willow’s bedside, that meant that he was neglecting his part of the job.
I closed my eyes and bided my time as the hands of the clock ticked on. Just as I expected, eventually, I heard the sound of footsteps leaving.
After waiting for another half an hour just to make sure, I slowly and quietly made my way out of the room.
When I asked earlier, Rowan mentioned that she was recuperating in her room. I assumed that would be her bedroom, no doubt. As a beloved member of the pack, her room was well-furnished. Medical supplies would be needed in the room to assist with her recovery, but that was a small task in the grand scheme of things.
It didn’t take long for me to sneak down the hallway towards where Willow’s room was. However, on my way over, I realized one important thing that I had completely forgotten about― if Cassian was chained to Willow’s bedside at the moment, how was I supposed to see Willow?
I needed to get into her room. For one, Violet could be plotting something against her. For another, the most incriminating evidence against Violet would be in that room where the crime happened.
The Alphas had made sure that Willow’s room remained untouched. Her blood had been cleaned up, along with most of the mess. However, without a professional team assigned to clean up, I highly doubted all evidence could be wiped clean.
As far as I knew, Violet had not sent anyone into Willow’s bedroom since her disappearance. The Alphas had made sure it was highly secured and protected ever since, even more so than other important areas around the pack house. No one could make it in.
The worst-case scenario would be if something happened to Willow while I was there alone. I would have no witnesses to prove my innocence. However, considering the crimes piled against me, what was one more going to do?
Either way, I wouldn’t be staying in Shadowclaw for long. Once Violet was caught, I would be out of here. Better yet, maybe even sooner.
I snuck down the corridor until the door to Willow’s room came into view. I wondered briefly if Rowan had been lying about where Willow was, but that doubt was shot down when I saw the door open.
Cassian stepped out. He looked weary as he ran a hand through his hair to push his dark fringe back. Then, he sighed and walked off, rubbing his temples.
It had been a day, and Cassian must be taking a short break to either grab a bite or wash up. Either way, it worked in my favor.
Once I was sure that he was gone, I quickly snuck down the hallway and pushed open the door.
