Chapter 8: They left her
Kaden’s jaw clenched hard at Alexander’s authoritative tone. His fingers tightened around the edge of the table until his knuckles turned white. He opened his mouth, then snapped it shut again, swallowing whatever sharp words had been ready to fly out.
"Fine," he bit out. "Don’t expect me to wait up for her."
He pushed his chair back and left the dining room without another glance, his shoulders rigid with barely contained anger.
Aevia reached over and gently squeezed Yuki’s hand, offering her a reassuring smile. "Do not worry. He will come around."
Yuki forced herself to smile back, but inside her chest felt tight and heavy. She had done nothing wrong, yet she was the one paying for it. She had been doing well at Xyrus University. Even without Kaden there, it would have been better than staying in this place where she clearly was not welcome. Life there had been simple and peaceful. Now she was trapped in a place where everyone looked at her like she did not belong.
But she could not refuse Aevia. Her sister had brought her here for a reason, and Yuki had no money of her own to continue her studies. She buried those bitter thoughts deep down and gave Aevia a small nod. "We do not need to be friends," she said quietly, "but I will survive."
A genuine smile lit up Aevia’s face. "I always knew you were sensible."
Yuki stood up from the table. She had barely touched her food. She left the dining room and walked through the vast pack house that felt more like an endless palace. As she stepped outside, the thought of Eloise living here crossed her mind and left a sour taste in her mouth. She quickly pushed it away and hurried toward the waiting car.
A white SUV sat in the driveway, windows rolled up tight. The custom plate with the Ravencourt crest made it clear who it belonged to. Yuki walked to the backseat, reached for the handle, and the door clicked open.
She climbed inside. Kaden sat behind the steering wheel, his face set in a deep scowl. Kieran leaned back in the passenger seat with his eyes closed and his head resting against the headrest, looking like he wanted nothing to do with the world.
Yuki was surprised to see Kieran there. She had assumed he would not be going to the university since he had already graduated and worked as a researcher now.
The air inside the car felt thick and suffocating. She swallowed hard. "Sorry for keeping you waiting," she said softly. She hated how small her voice sounded, but the heavy pressure of their alpha presence made it difficult to speak any louder.
Kaden let out a sharp snort and started the engine. The moment she clicked her seatbelt into place, he slammed his foot on the accelerator. The sudden force threw her back against the seat. A sharp pain exploded in the back of her head. She winced and pressed a hand to the sore spot.
Kieran kept his eyes closed, completely unbothered. Kaden continued driving fast and recklessly, his hands tight on the wheel. Not a single word of apology came from him. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Yuki gritted her teeth, anger rising in her chest. "Can you drive more carefully?" she said. "You are not a drunkard."
Kaden still did not reply. Kieran was the one who spoke, his voice carrying that superior tone. "Don’t mind Kaden. His mood is a little rough today."
Yuki caught the sneer on Kaden’s lips.
Kieran opened his eyes. Those clear blue eyes met Yuki’s gaze through the rare mirror. "If it is too rough you can always walk. Only that it would take at least twenty minutes to leave the pack house territory and there are no cars around even after you cross the gates." He explained with a blank expression. "That is if you even find your way. And we both know shifting is not an option for you."
For the first time Yuki sensed something sharp flash through Kieran’s gaze.
Her fists clenched. She had not had her first shift yet and her wolf was weak. Even if she had, shifting to school was not really an option. They were doing this deliberately.
Kaden chuckled, clearly amused by the look on her face. "There is no need to explain anything to her." He sneered, then glanced at her through the rearview mirror, his blue eyes pinning her down. "If the ride ever gets too rough, you are always free to get off."
That was clearly a taunt.
Yuki gritted her teeth and swallowed everything. She managed to strap in her seatbelt properly and glanced out the window, trying to ignore Kaden.
After a short drive, instead of seeing the familiar pack house gates, the car pulled into a villa tucked within the pack house grounds. Yuki’s brows pulled together. She turned to Kaden, about to question the detour, but her answer stepped out of the villa.
Eloise was beaming as she walked toward them. Kaden shut off the engine and stepped out. Yuki watched as Eloise ran into his arms. The scene looked painfully familiar to the one she had witnessed with Kieran at the airport.
Kieran had also gotten out, and it looked like a sweet reunion. Yuki’s jaw went slack. She could not believe they had taken a detour just to pick up their girlfriend. It was pretty hilarious, although it wasn’t strange for a single she-wolf to have multiple mates. Still, Yuki found it weird.
She could never imagine herself having multiple mates, especially alphas with their massive egos.
The car was soundproof, so Yuki could not hear what they were saying, but Eloise looked displeased and glared straight at the backseat.
Yuki sneered. Turned out the girlfriend was not pleased someone else was in their car.
She closed her eyes and rested against the headrest. It seemed like they were not leaving anytime soon. Surprisingly, Eloise did not stall for long.
The back seat door was yanked open. A wave of warm air rushed in. Yuki’s eyes fluttered open to see Kaden standing there. "Get out," he said, leaving no room for argument.
"What?!" she snapped, finding the situation ridiculous.
Kaden’s gaze remained unreadable. "Just step out. Eloise does not want to share the same car with you. I will send someone to pick you up."
The sheer absurdity of the situation made her jaw drop. "Your father instructed that you take me to campus," she argued, her eyes darting to Eloise who stood behind Kaden.
"Who do you think you are? Making them play chauffeur for you?" Eloise snickered. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Yuki smiled, finding the whole thing ridiculous. "Alpha Alexander gave the instruction."
Eloise burst into laughter. "And?" she questioned with an arched brow. "I am the future Luna and I have no intention of sharing a car with you."
Yuki was still reluctant, but Kaden had already grabbed her arm and pulled her out. She stumbled and fell against Kieran, who caught her without thinking.
Kieran sighed and spoke in a tired voice. "Someone will take you to campus. Trust me. You do not want Eloise against you." He let go of her before Eloise could glare at him.
The entire situation felt absurd, but they did not pay her any mind. They all got into the car and the white SUV disappeared through the gates, leaving Yuki standing there alone. For a moment, she simply stared after it in disbelief.
They had actually left her behind.
