Chapter 44: Truth or dare
Xavier stared at the spinning bottle with calm confidence as it slowed down and finally pointed straight at him. The room grew quieter with anticipation.
Ajax leaned back in his seat with a wicked grin. "Alright, the rules are simple. If you cannot answer the truth or complete the dare, you drink from the bucket. No exceptions." He gestured toward a large metal bucket in the centre filled with a murky, chaotic mix of different alcohols, energy drinks and other substances. The liquid looked disgusting with floating bits and a sharp chemical smell rising from it. "So Xavier... Truth or Dare?"
Xavier’s gaze flicked briefly to the bucket then returned to Ajax. "Truth," he replied freewebnovёl.ƈom
Ajax’s smile widened. He leaned forward, eyes gleaming with mischief. "If you and your best friend fell for the same girl and she had to choose... would you fight him for her?" There was a hint of amusement in his eyes
The question landed heavily in the room. Yuki glanced at Xavier, curious about his reply.
Xavier did not hesitate. "It is not possible. We would never like the same girl. And I do not like the girl he likes." he stated like it was a fact.
Ajax arched his brows. "That is not the question. I asked what if?" he drawled as his eyes narrowed on Xavier
Xavier stayed silent for a long moment, his jaw tightening. The playful atmosphere shifted slightly. Finally, he answered with quiet confidence. "Love is war, is it not? The best man wins."
Ajax smirked, clearly satisfied with the answer. The game continued round after round. Laughter, gasps and occasional groans filled the room as people took dares or drank from the foul bucket. Yuki remained quiet, sipping her beer slowly. She was curious about who Xavier’s best friend was. Everyone seemed to know.
Xavier noticed her spacing out. He leaned closer, his voice was low and warm against her ear. "You do not seem to be having fun."
Yuki tilted her can to take another sip but realised it was empty. She sighed. "Not exactly." Her gaze drifted to him. "Can I ask you a question? It is a bit personal but I am curious." She paused then hesitantly added. "Who is your best friend?"
Xavier smirked. "I did not expect you to be interested in me." he chimed.
She smiled subtly. "Do I know him? Everyone seems to—"
"Truth or Dare, Yuki!" Olivine’s voice cut through, drawing everyone’s attention back to the circle. The bottle had stopped with its neck pointing directly at her.
Yuki’s stomach churned. She tried to stay calm. "Truth." she blurted.
Olivine smiled sweetly but her eyes sparkled with challenge. "What is the most humiliating thing that has ever happened to you?" Olivine asked.
The question hit Yuki like a slap. Her mind flashed back to Eloise’s birthday, the ruined dress, the slaps and being dragged half-naked in front of everyone. She could not speak about that here.
Her throat tightened. "Can I swap to a dare?" She tried to change her choice.
Olivine arched her brow. "Are you sure?" Hesitation was evident in her voice.
Yuki nodded. "Give me a dare," she affirmed her answer.
The room fell into tense silence. The heavy bass from the party downstairs still thumped through the floor. Olivine tapped her chin thoughtfully before delivering the dare.
"Give one of the guys here a blowjob. Right here in front of everyone."
Yuki’s throat went dry. Shock rippled through her.
Olivine sighed at her stunned expression. " Don’t give that look, Yuki. I can’t go easy on you. The dares so far have all been brutal..if you can’t take a drink. No one can drink for you." She explained and worse, Yuki couldn’t argue.
Across the circle a girl who had been dared earlier sat completely naked and unbothered. Another guy had chosen the bucket instead of running naked on a livestream. The dares had been brutal all night. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Yuki drew in a shaky breath. "Is the drink sanitary?" she asked, giving it a questioning look.
As if on cue the last person who had drunk from the bucket suddenly clamped a hand over his mouth and bolted out of the room gagging.
That was all the answer she needed. It was awful but it couldn’t be that bad. Definitely better than the dare. "I will take the drink," Yuki said, reaching for the cup.
Xavier’s fist clenched tightly beside her. Someone poured the foul mixture into a red cup. The stench alone was nauseating, a sharp chemical burn of mixed spirits and something sour. Just smelling it made her eyes water.
She clamped her nose shut, tilted the cup to her lips and was about to force it down when the music downstairs suddenly cut off.
Everyone froze.
Then chaos erupted.
Screams and panicked shouts exploded from below. Heavy footsteps thundered through the house. Ajax shot to his feet, his face pale. "Pack warriors! They found drugs on the premises! Fuck! Who the hell was doing drugs?!" he sounded terrified.
The room exploded into movement. People scrambled up in panic. Yuki was still confused trying to process what the hell was happening when Xavier yanked her to her feet.
"We have to run," he said urgently, his voice tight with command as he pulled her along. No matter what he couldn’t afford to be caught with her for many reasons.
The entire house had descended into pandemonium. Screams echoed everywhere as warriors in tactical gear stormed through the doors grabbing students. "What is going on?" Yuki asked, heart racing. So far no one had shifted although Yuki doubted they could outrun trained warriors.
Xavier’s grip on her hand tightened. "Run first. Ask questions later." he hissed.
Instead of heading downstairs he pulled her toward a window leading to the roof. They climbed out into the cool night air. From above the entire street looked like a warzone with warriors arresting students as they screamed and cried. The chaos was spreading fast.
Xavier swept her into his arms without warning and jumped. The wind rushed past them as they barely landed on the next roof rolling over it. There was no time to recover. He grabbed her hand again and pulled her forward. They plunged from the edge into the neighbouring house’s pool.
Cold water crashed over Yuki filling her nose and mouth. She gasped as they broke the surface. Xavier pulled her to the edge with powerful strokes. The moment they climbed out they ran again, feet pounding against wet pavement, weaving through back alleys to put distance between them and the raid.
They continued running through narrow alleys. The distant shouts and chaos grew fainter. Hope flickered in Yuki’s chest. They were almost out of danger but her body wasn’t keeping up.
Yuki’s lungs burned. Her legs felt heavy. She was slowing Xavier down. He could have shifted and escaped easily but he stayed in human form, refusing to leave her behind. She tried to push harder but her body gave out. She stumbled and fell, scraping her knee badly on the rough ground.
Xavier stopped immediately and reached down to help her up.
"Just leave," she gasped, guilt twisting in her chest. "This is not my first time getting in trouble. You do not have to..."
"We can make it," he said firmly. "Once we reach the next street we are clear. The authorities will be focused on the main house." he tried to pull her up.
Yuki didn’t know if she could make it and was about to convince Xavier to just leave so at least one of them could escape. Before she could even open her mouth. A slow, mocking clap suddenly echoed through the dark alley ahead.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
Their heads snapped toward the sound. Across the street, casually leaning against a sleek motorcycle in a black hoodie, stood Kaden. His sapphire eyes gleamed dangerously in the darkness. He stood there like he had been expecting them.
"How touching you were able to get your girlfriend out safely and sacrificed yourself to take her along," he drawled, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I wonder how your father would react to hearing his son was at a party where wolfbane was being used to spike drinks." he taunted Xavier enjoying every bit of this burying his irritation.
Xavier froze mid-step.
Kaden’s smirk deepened as he pushed off the motorcycle. "Why did you stop running? Oh right. You know you cannot outrun me." His smile vanished, replaced by cold authority. "You are in pretty big trouble this time, Xavier. Wolfbane is serious. The Gamma might get involved."
The realisation hit Yuki like ice water. The drink she had almost consumed during the game had been spiked with wolfbane. Her face went deathly pale with exhaustion and fear crashed over her at once.
That could have killed her if the party hadn’t been raided.
The night air felt colder than before.
A sharp breeze swept through the empty street, stirring fallen leaves across the pavement and tugging at Yuki’s blonde hair as her heart started thumping again
