Chapter 74: The results of Emily’s scans
Lyvana’s breath caught.
She didn’t answer immediately.
Emily’s eyes sharpened, her grip tightening slightly around the small bottle.
"Liv... don’t do that. Don’t go quiet on me."
Lyvana swallowed. Her fingers curled against the edge of the tub.
"...Yes."
Emily’s eyes were wide with shock.
Lyvana’s mind raced, trying to come up with an explanation.
For a second, Emily just stared.
Then—
"Wait... oh my God," she said, her voice rising. "It’s Julian’s, isn’t it?"
Lyvana’s silence was all the answer Emily needed.
"Oh, Liv... why didn’t you tell me?"
Lyvana forced herself to sit up straighter, even as her chest tightened. "I found out today. At the hospital. That’s why they stopped my scans."
Emily stared at her, searching Lyvana’s face for any sign of a mistake or a joke. She found none.
"Oh my God," Emily whispered, her voice trembling. "Oh my God."
She sank down onto the floor next to the tub, her expression instantly softening. "That’s why you’ve been so tired? Why you’ve looked so pale lately?"
"I was going to tell you, I swear," Lyvana said, her voice small. "I just... I needed a moment to process it myself."
There was a pause.
Then, slowly — unexpectedly — a huge smile spread across Emily’s face.
She reached out and took Lyvana’s hand, squeezing it gently. freewebnovel.cσ๓
"I’m going to be a godmother."
Lyvana let out a soft laugh, shaking her head. "You’re unbelievable."
"I’m serious," Emily said, wiping at her eyes, though her smile only grew. "This baby is already spoiled. I’m buying everything. Tiny shoes, ridiculous outfits—"
"Emy—"
Emily giggled hugging her friend tightly. "I’m here for you, Liv. We’ll figure this out together, okay? You’re gonna be an amazing mom."
As they hugged, Lyvana couldn’t help but wonder what the results of her scans will be. Even in the middle of a life-altering shock, Emily was already standing firmly on her side. She wasn’t ready to lose her in this lifetime.
Then, the thought of Julian forced its way into her mind. She wondered if the news of this child would even matter to a man who had already moved on to another woman.
They spent half the night talking, alternating between baby names and Emily’s surprise engagement. Ethan wanted Emily to meet his family the very next morning, and Lyvana gave them her full blessing. It felt like things were finally going right.
The next morning, Lyvana reached for her phone on the nightstand. There were several unread messages from Mark... And a missed call from her dad.
That’s odd. He almost never called her.
"Hi, Damon." She called him back.
"Just a reminder about the party tomorrow night," her father said. "Your grandmother and I will be arriving soon. She is very eager to see your fashion show."
"I’ll have to check my schedule, Dad. You know how busy the runway prep is," Lyvana explained. Inside, she was already wishing she could skip the entire event. She didn’t have the energy for high-society drama right now.
"Then I will move the party to next week. Bring Mark with you," he said. Meaning the discussion was over and that she should be there no matter what.
"Okay. I’ll try," Lyvana sighed, hanging up. Wanting nothing more, than to end the call.
Just then Emily run in with her laptop. On the screen was a video call from Dr. Mia.
"Hello, Emily," the doctor said, her face calm. "Are you in a private place? Are you free to talk?"
"Yes, Doctor," Emily said leaning toward the screen.
Dr. Mia offered a small, kind smile. "I have your results. I know it’s sooner than expected, but the lab finished early."
Lyvana felt her breath hitch. She could still remember the smell of the hospital and the cold reality of Emily’s diagnosis.
"The results show that you are perfectly healthy, Emily," the doctor announced. "There is no sign of illness. Your scans are completely clear."
Emily leaned her head against Lyvana’s shoulder. Lyvana felt a massive weight lift off her chest. She had done it. She had cheated death and saved the person she loved most.

Walking into her office that same day, she was surrounded by several boxes, which contained several fabrics they had purchased.
But then she found herself staring at a box on the table with a big bow attached to it.
"That just came for you this morning,"
Bertha said, stepping into the room. She was struggling to carry a huge bouquet of red roses that nearly hid her face. "And these came right after."
"What’s with the flowers?" Emily asked, following Bertha inside. She leaned over to sniff the roses, her eyes filled with curiosity. "Did Mark finally remember how to be a fiancé, or is someone else trying to get your attention?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
She reached for the ribbon on the big box and pulled it. The lid fell away, and a very large, soft teddy bear popped out. It was incredibly cute, with thick fur and a friendly face.
"Aww... that is so cute!" Emily exclaimed, immediately reaching out to touch the bear’s fuzzy ear. "Okay, who sent this?"
Lyvana searched through the soft fur and checked the bottom of the box. She looked inside the bouquet of roses, too.
"There is no card," Lyvana whispered.
Emily pulled the bear into a hug, smiling as she sank into its softness.
"I think someone is trying to make you smile this morning."
"Maybe," Lyvana murmured, picking a single rose from the pile. "Can you put this in water for me?"
"Of course, Ms. Lyvana," Bertha said walking out.
Emily set the bear on the office sofa, adjusting it so it sat upright.
"Well," Emily said with a grin, "whoever sent this has excellent taste. Looks like you’ve got yourself a little bodyguard."
Emily checked her reflection in the office mirror, smoothing down her hair. She looked radiant.
"I need to leave now. I have a date with Ethan’s parents."
"They are going to love you," Lyvana said.
"I hope so," Emily admitted shyly. "His parents are a bit traditional, but he says they’ve been wanting to meet me for some time now. I hope it goes great."
"It will," Lyvana assured her, walking Emily toward the door. "Just be yourself. That’s why Ethan fell for you in the first place."
Emily gave her one last, quick squeeze. "I’ll call you the second I leave and tell you every detail. Don’t work too late, okay? Drink some water and get some rest. You’re eating for two now!"
Lyvana laughed softly and waved her off. "I promise. Go! Don’t be late."
As the door clicked shut, she picked up her phone to respond to Mark’s messages.
The door opened once more, and Lyvana didn’t even look up from her screen.
"Did you forget something?" she asked, her thumb scrolling through her messages.
"Hello, Lyvana."
The voice was deep and rich, vibrating through the quiet office. Lyvana’s heart stopped. Her head snapped up, her breath hitching in her throat.
Standing in the doorway was Julian.
He stepped into the room, closing the door softly behind him. His gaze moved from Lyvana to the giant teddy bear on the sofa, then to the bouquet of red roses on her desk.
"I hope you liked my gifts," he said, walking toward her.
Lyvana tried to speak, but her head began to spin. She reached out to grab the edge of her desk, but her fingers slipped. Suddenly, the light faded and her vision went black.
She stumbled forward.
"Lyvana!" Julian’s voice cracked with fear. He rushed forward and caught her in his arms just before she hit the floor.
