Chapter 223: Fake medical report
A moment later, Eleanor, Isabel, and Lady Glowen marched into the room.
All three women were carrying bags, boxes, and baby supplies while arguing loudly among themselves.
Behind them came Emily, whose arms were loaded with brightly wrapped packages.
"I’m telling you, the blue blanket is softer," Eleanor insisted.
"That is not the point," Isabel argued. "The point is that it doesn’t match the theme."
Lady Glowen rolled her eyes.
"You two realize that the babies aren’t going to care about a theme, right?"
They all stopped when they noticed Lyvana sitting comfortably beside Julian on the sofa.
"What’s going on?" Isabel asked.
"Errm, I think I should be asking you that instead." Lyvana said lifting an eyebrow.
The women stared at Julian.
"Weren’t you supposed to keep her in the room until we were done decorating." Eleanor said.
Julian passed a hand through his hair. "Was that today?"
Eleanor closed her eyes and sighed. For a second, she looked like she was considering whether to throw one of the baby bags at him.
The room erupted with laughter. Even Lyvana could not hold back a smile.
Lady Glowen immediately walked over to the sofa.
She gently cupped Lyvana’s cheek.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" she asked. "Any signs that these babies are ready to make their grand entrance?"
Lyvana smiled.
"I’m okay, Grandma. But I thought we agreed not to have a baby shower."
"Yes but... well we changed our minds." Eleanor said dropping the bags on the table.
"These are so cute. Did you by chance buy the whole store," Lyvana said, looking around at the mountain of baby items the security guards were bringing into the room.
Emily placed a particularly large gift box on the coffee table. "I had to stop them Liv. I told them there was no room to put all these. We wanted to surprise you. Julian was supposed to be our secret weapon to keep you distracted, but clearly, he failed his mission."
Julian offered a completely unapologetic shrug, his arm still wrapped protectively around Lyvana’s shoulders. "I forgot."
Just then, the Chairman appeared in the doorway.
He was dragging two enormous teddy bears behind him.
He looked up, his gaze landing on Lyvana.
He paused. "Ummm... Surprise?"
Lyvana giggled.
Eleanor pointed at Julian. "Your son ruined everything." freewebnøvel.coɱ
Before Julian could defend himself, Ethan walked into the room carrying a large cake box.
"I brought cake," he announced, holding the box up.
"Yay," Donovan rushed in, followed by Damon.
"It seems our covert operation was a complete disaster," the Chairman said with one of his rare smiles.
Lyvana’s heart swelled as she looked around at the crowded room. "It’s the best kind of disaster," she said, leaning back into Julian’s side as he tightened his grip around her shoulders. "Thank you, everyone. Really."
The warmth and laughter of that evening turned out to be the perfect calm before the storm. Because the babies arrived the following day. One boy and one girl.
....
Melody was idly scrolling through her phone when a breaking notification flashed across her screen. It was a headline from the city’s top society blog, complete with a gleaming gold header:
"A New Addition to the Grants: Lyvana Safely Delivers Newborn."
Melody stared at the words.
"It appears Lyvana had a baby", she said, her gaze shifting across the room to where Clarisse sat holding her baby boy.
"Who cares," she muttered.
"Well, I do," Melody countered, a small smirk playing on her lips. "It says here that, Aurora is giving out freebies and massive discounts on some of their items. They are celebrating the birth. And I’m gonna go get mine."
"Traitor," she hissed. "My own sister, siding with my enemy. All of this is your fault. If you hadn’t encouraged me to have fun with Alex in the first place, none of this would be happening!"
Melody shook her head and stood up, the phone still gripped tightly in her hand.
"So that’s your play, Clarisse?" She snapped. "You’re going to sit there, after all the support I gave you and blame me, because you couldn’t keep your man by your side?"
She let out a sharp, humorless laugh.
"Remember this. Look around at the mess you’re in and remember it was your fault. Your own damn fault."
"Get out," Clarisse snarled, pointing a trembling finger toward the door. "Go back home. I don’t need you here."
"Oh, trust me, you are stuck with me, even if you don’t want it, and definitely even if I don’t want it," Melody shot back, throwing her hands up. "Mom and Dad forced me to come here and help you. Unless, of course, you want to pack your bags and move back home? You’d save the entire family a whole lot of trouble."
Clarisse glared up at her. "You tramp."
"How dare you call me a tramp, you hypocritical whore! Maybe I should just walk right out that door and explain to everyone exactly how you swapped those medical results? Let’s tell the world how you framed Lyvana to make Mark think she couldn’t have children!"
"You wouldn’t dare."
Melody just looked down at her with cold eyes.
"Try me." She turned around, walked down the hall, slamming her bedroom door behind her.
The loud bang made Clarisse jump. She looked down at her baby, her hands trembling. Fear, cold and sharp, washed over her.
If Mark found out that she had faked those medical documents just to get Lyvana out of the picture, he would never forgive her. He would hate her forever.
And Susan? Susan would literally murder her. She would not hesitate to destroy her for telling them such a dangerous lie.
She squeezed her eyes shut, pulling her son just a little bit closer against her chest as the terrifying reality of her situation had finally settled in. frёeωebɳovel.com
Mark had been arrested for draining Lyvana’s bank accounts. The judge had handed down a two-year sentence, though his lawyer muttered something about early release in six months for good behavior. Not that it mattered to her now. He had made it clear, he will never marry her.
Alex had abandoned her after finding out her pregnancy was for Mark.
Melody was right. She reached out, her finger trembling as she brushed the soft cheek of the sleeping infant. She had played a high-stakes game, spinning a web of lies between two men, convinced she was smart enough to never get caught.
Back in the hilltop mansion, julian sat by the bed, gently holding their baby girl.
"Such beautiful eyes," he whispered. He used his fingers to softly touch her forehead and smiled.
"They both have your eyes," Lyvana said. She leaned down slowly so he could get a good look at their baby boy too.
Julian smiled even wider.
"They both look beautiful. Thank you, Liv. Thank you for giving me these wonderful blessings. I love you so much."
Lyvana could hear his voice shaking. She knew he was trying very hard not to cry.
"I love you too," she replied. She also tried to hold back her tears, but she couldn’t. Tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Julian leaned in and kissed her lips gently.
