Chapter 166: The wedding

"Mother, you’re going to make me cry," Emily started to say, but her voice trailed off.

"Forgive me, sweet child," Victoria whispered. She reached out and squeezed Emily’s hand, her eyes shining with pride. "You just look so beautiful. I can’t help myself."

Victoria turned to look at Lyvana, who was standing nearby with a satisfied smile.

"Liv, you did an amazing job. This dress is spectacular. It’s exactly what Emily needed for today."

Lyvana beamed, leaning in to give the large fabric flower one final, tiny adjustment. "She’s the one making the dress look good, Mrs. Victoria."

The door suddenly opened again.

Emily’s father walked in and stopped the moment he saw her.

For a second, he just stood there staring at his daughter in silence.

Then emotion broke across his face.

"My God," he whispered.

Emily smiled instantly. "Dad..."

He walked over and pulled her into a tight hug, careful not to ruin the dress.

"I can’t believe my last daughter is already getting married," he said thickly. "Feels like yesterday you were running around the house stealing cookies from the kitchen."

Emily laughed softly against his shoulder.

"I still do that."

"Yes, but now you’ll be stealing cookies from your husband’s kitchen."

The room filled with warm laughter again.

Victoria wiped at her eyes while Lyvana smiled quietly from the side.

An hour later, the cars arrived at the church.

The large stone building was filled with flowers, music, and the waiting guests.

Lyvana and Ivy were the bridesmaids. both of them were dressed in soft champagne-colored gowns.

Inside, the organ music had already begun to play softly. And at the altar, Ethan waited nervously for Emily with his hands clasped tightly in front of him. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

The church doors slowly opened, revealing a breathtaking scene inside.

Hundreds of white roses hung from the high ceiling like soft clouds, filling the air with their sweet scent. Candles glowed along the aisle, their warm light reflecting against the polished floors.

One by one, the guests rose to their feet and turned to look at Emily.

Her breath caught in her throat.

She tightened her grip slightly on her father’s arm before lifting her eyes to the end of the aisle.

Ethan stood waiting for her at the altar. He looked breathtaking in his tuxedo.

As their eyes met across the long aisle, the rest of the world seemed to fade away. For Ethan, the hundreds of guests and the grand music disappeared. All he could see was Emily in that breathtaking gown.

Before long, the ceremony came to an end.

The priest smiled warmly as Ethan and Emily stood hand in hand before the altar.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife."

A wave of cheers and applause filled the church.

Emily laughed through her tears as Ethan pulled her close and kissed her deeply, making the crowd cheer even louder.

White rose petals rained down around them as the church bells began to ring outside.

By the time the reception began, the sun had already started to set.

Ethan’s parents, along with Emily’s parents, stood at the entrance of the reception hall welcoming guests.

Most of the people invited were from high society, making it one of the most talked-about weddings in the city today.

The ballroom looked magical.

Crystal chandeliers glowed overhead while white orchid and candle centerpieces decorated every table.

Soft music drifted through the air as waiters moved around with trays of champagne, and food.

At the center of it all, Emily and Ethan looked impossibly happy.

She laughed as Ethan spun her across the dance floor during their first dance, her white gown flowing around her like water.

""We actually did it," she whispered.

"You did it. I just showed up and looked handsome," Ethan whispered back.

Emily burst out laughing.

Lyvana stood near the head table, sipping a glass of water.

Julian appeared at her side, sliding his hand naturally around her waist.

"They look perfect," she said, looking up at him.

"They do. Dance with me."

As he led her onto the dance floor, Lyvana noticed Andrew standing near a marble pillar. He wasn’t talking to anyone. He was just holding a glass of champagne, his eyes fixed on them as they began to dance.

That was when a memory hit her.

Lyvana’s breath caught in her throat. She remembered now. Jasmine was supposed to marry Andrew. In the original plan, Lyvana’s own fate had been transferred to her.

If they were supposed to be getting married, why was Andrew here alone at Ethan’s wedding?

Unless... something had gone horribly wrong.

She looked up at Julian. "I remember something about Andrew. He was supposed to marry Dr. Jasmine today. I saw their wedding invitation online."

Julian slowed his steps, his expression turning thoughtful. Of course. Lyvana didn’t know that Marco had given her the report of his investigations on Andrew. That was what led to his discovery of Andrew being a fake, and also being linked with Adrian.

But she was right though. The dates were the same. If he was here, that would mean, their wedding didn’t happen.

"Maybe it was cancelled," he said.

"That’s good."

Julian watched her quietly. "Why were you investigating him in the first place?"

Lyvana’s heart skipped a beat. How could she even begin to explain everything to him. He wouldn’t even believe her.

"You will think am crazy if I told you," she said quietly.

"Try me."

After a moment, she nodded and rested her head against his chest.

Was this really a good idea? Could she tell him something so impossible and expect him to believe her?

Julian gently ran his hand through her hair, his expression darkening slightly.

He wondered if Andrew had hurt her previously before this.

If that was it, he would put a bullet in between his eyes, and blow his brains out.

A little while later, the newly married couple made their grand exit from the reception.

Guests gathered outside as the sound of helicopter blades slowly filled the air above them.

Ethan pulled Emily close as they hurried across the landing platform together.

"This is so dramatic," she shouted over the noise.

"You married a dramatic man," Ethan shouted back proudly.

The helicopter lifted off, and the guests cheered.

As soon as they were out of sight, Lyvana turned to Julian, looking serious. "Let’s talk."

He nodded and led her toward the parking area, into his car. Then he waited for her to speak.
