Chapter 128: Something isn’t adding up

The paramedic looked up, surprised that Julian knew that much.

"And she’s pregnant," Julian added. "So be careful with what you give her."

The paramedic nodded quickly and grabbed the radio. "We have a pregnant patient, unconscious. Possible sedative. Moving now!"

As the ambulance sped away with the sirens screaming, Ethan stayed behind to take care of things. The mansion was still full of his men, and Andrew Thorne was still locked in the trunk.

One of the officers walked up, pulling El along by his arm. El looked messy and confused.

"What?" Ethan asked, his eyes narrowing. "Isn’t this guy supposed to be in jail? He’s a criminal."

"He was let out on bail just yesterday," the officer replied. "We found him in the room with Ms. Lyvana. He was sleeping right next to where she lay."

Ethan’s face turned red with anger. He lunged forward and grabbed El by the collar, shaking him hard.

"You swine!" Ethan hissed. "You think you can touch Lyvana and get away with it? Didn’t you learn your lesson the other time."

"I didn’t do anything!" El cried out. His voice was shaking. "I don’t even know how I got here! Some people grabbed me. I passed out and woke up in that room. I swear!"

Ethan didn’t believe a word. He tightened his grip on El’s shirt until the man could barely breathe.

"Save it for the judge," Ethan growled. "Or better yet, save it for her boyfriend. Because when he finds out you were near her, a jail cell will be the safest place for you to be."

Back in the hospital, Julian stared at the screen. Two small, steady pulses showed the babies were okay. He let out a long breath, but his body was still tense.

The doctor walked over to him, looking at the charts.

"She is fine," the doctor said. "She is just sleeping off the sedative. The dose was strong enough to keep her quiet, but it didn’t hurt her or the babies. They are perfectly healthy."

Julian didn’t look away from Lyvana’s face. "When will she wake up?"

"Within the hour," the doctor replied. "Her body just needs time to clear the chemicals. We are giving her fluids now to help."

Julian ran his fingers through her hair. Rage rippled through him. It was his fault that Lyvana got kidnapped. It was his fault for exposing her to lunatics.

Julian finally sat down in the chair next to the bed. He reached out and took her hand. It felt warm, and he could feel her light pulse.

He clenched his teeth as another wave of rage swelled within him.

"I will kill them all for this."

He was still holding Lyvana’s hand when the doors burst open.

Lady Glowen rushed in first, her face pale and her eyes red from crying.

She ran to the side of the bed and gasped when she saw Lyvana’s closed eyes and the IV in her arm.

"Oh, my sweet girl," she whispered, her voice breaking. She reached out and touched her forehead.

"Is she ok?" Damon asked, coming in with Emily and Isabel.

Julian stood up to give them space.

"She’s stable," he said. "Don’t worry, she is fine. She is just sleeping."

"Thank you for finding her," Lady Glowen said. "Thank you."

Julian nodded then stepped out of the room. As he walked down the quiet hospital corridor, he saw Mark rushing toward him.

"What are you doing here?" Julian asked, his voice cold.

"I am still her emergency contact," Mark snapped back, looking stressed. "What are you doing here? As far as I know you are not even a relative."

"None of your business," Julian said.

He didn’t stop to argue. He kept walking toward the coffee machine at the end of the hall.

Mark ignored him and walked towards Lyvana’s room.

"I don’t think it’s a good time to go in there," Julian called out without turning around. "You really don’t want to face Lady Glowen right now. Not after that porn you showed everyone at the party."

Mark stopped in his tracks. He thought about Julian’s words and felt a chill. He knew Lady Glowen would likely tear him apart if she saw him.

Mark turned around, his face pale. Maybe he shouldn’t go in. Perhaps it was better to find a doctor and get information that way instead.

Julian watched him walk away. He muttered a curse under his breath and pulled out his phone to call Ethan.

"They found El at the scene," Ethan said as soon as he picked up. "He claims someone knocked him out and he woke up next to Lyvana."

Julian stayed silent for a long minute. His mind was racing. Something didn’t feel right. If El was working with the Thornes, why would he stay there to get caught?

"Where is he now?" Julian finally asked.

"He is back in jail."

"I want everything you can find on him," Julian commanded. "Every detail, every secret. Dig it all up."

"I’m on it."

"And where is Andrew Thorne?" ƒrēewebnovel.com

"We have him chained in the bunker," Ethan said. "He’s in the same place where we are keeping Seraphina."

"Good. I’ll be there in a few minutes."

....

Jasmine sat quietly, sipping her coffee. She frowned; the smell of hospital soap and medicine did nothing to calm her nerves. She felt restless and tired.

Suddenly, her phone rang.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hello, Jasmine," the person said.

The voice sounded familiar.

"Can we meet?" the man asked.

"Who is this?"

"It’s me. Richard."

"Oh." She breathed out the word. His voice sounded different, older, maybe. And she almost didn’t recognize it.

"I’ll be in town tomorrow," he said. "Can I see you?"

"I’m busy," she said. She stared at the hospital floor. "Maybe next time you are in town. Let me know."

There was a short silence. "Jasmine... that is what you said last time."

"I am sorry, but you know how my life is," she said. "If you really want to see me, you will have to come to the hospital."
