Chapter 62: Theories

Axel leaned in towards Riguras and muttered something in his ear. The expression on Riguras’ face changed. An expression of seriousness and solemnity appeared on his face upon hearing whatever Axel had to report.

"What happened?" Wenton questioned with a frown.

"It is about Trux," Riguras replied.

"Trux? The guy who was beaten?" Wenton pressed. "What happened to him?"

"He was beaten. Again," Riguras replied. "Along with two of his lackeys."

"In the academy?" Edward interjected.

"Yes," Riguras confirmed. "In the academy."

"By whom?" Edward questioned with a frown.

"Athar VonCruz!" Riguras replied in a solemn tone.

"What?" Edward snapped. "Impossible."

"It has not even been one month since he started to cultivate," he added. "This is absolutely impossible. This is ridiculous."

"Well, Trux reported it himself," Axel remarked, standing behind Riguras. "It is true."

"He was beaten by Athar VonCruz," he added with certainty in his tone.

He then provided the full details of what had transpired on the fourth floor of the academy. Given that everyone in the room was already privy to everything, Axel did not bother to hide how the incident had begun, namely, with Trux going after Terius because of the quota.

"I think," Wenton remarked. "We now know the reason why Miss Angelica took Athar as her personal disciple."

"And this is probably the reason why that lady is also showing so much attention toward Athar," he added.

"Yes," Riguras nodded his head. "In all likelihood, Athar had fooled everyone. He had been downplaying his talent so far. Probably lying about his beast, too. There is something within him that has interested two formidable figures."

"It still does not make sense," Edward remarked. "I am still willing to believe about Angelica taking in him as her personal disciple for whatever talent he has shown."

"But the second lady you talked about," he continued. "For fuck’s sake, you are talking about someone who was battling the emperor and four of his subordinates."

"Unlike both of you I was not there to witness that grand scene and I can only imagine. And you are saying that she too has taken an interest in him? Do you even understand what that would entail," he said.

"She has taken interest in him," Riguras said. "It is not necessary that it has happened because of his talent."

"Then what could it be for?" Edward questioned.

"Anything," Riguras replied with a shrug. "Maybe his identity. Maybe he has a secret and hidden identity."

Edward fell silent hearing this.

"Ok!" He said. "Let us leave things which we are not aware about for a few moments and only talk about things which are confirmed."

"Athar being accepted as Angelica’s disciple and him beating Trux and his two lackeys."

"But even then, this is madness," he continued. "He has not been cultivating for even a month. And Trux is a second year student at E Rank. Furthermore, it was not only Trux who was beaten. Two more of his lackeys, both E Rank, were beaten along with him."

"Maybe it is his skill," Axel interjected, from the sidelines. "The mist he uses. It might have caught Trux and his lackeys by surprise. Perhaps he might not be as formidable as we think in a full blown fight."

None of the other three responded immediately. They understood that it was not that simple.

"It does not matter," Riguras stated. "He beat three people, all three above his rank. And even if it was because of his skill, he still caught them off guard."

"True, he might not fare much better in a full-blown fight, but what he has already done cannot be ignored," he continued. "And even if he was able to achieve what he did because of his beast’s skill, then it is still his tamed beast’s skill."

"There are a lot of people who are powerful because of their beast," he concluded.

The other two men nodded their heads in agreement. The conversation was followed by silence. No one knew what step to take next, or even what to say. It was a clear cue for the meeting to be dismissed. But Edward had one last thing to say. Or rather, a request.

"Mr. Wenton," Edward said, turning toward the mayor with a hesitant voice. "I was wondering if you could do me a favor. And perhaps, you yourself might even be interested in this matter."

"What is it?" Wenton asked with a neutral expression on his face.

"The Sezile family," Edward mumbled.

Wenton’s eyes widened slightly as he heard the name. Even Riguras, sitting across from him, perked up his ears.

The Sezile family was one of the most prominent and influential families in the Western Province. Though the Sezile family only held the title of Earl and was a bit inferior to the Marquess families, which held influence and territory in the capital of the Western Province, it was still not a name that could be taken lightly.

The Sezile family was of particular and special importance to Nawarin City. The Sezile family, along with the Lacontour family and the mayor, were the three powers, the three overlords ruling over the city of Andaton.

And the city of Andaton was not only one of the largest cities in the Western Province, but it was also located close to Nawarin City. The distance between the two cities was a mere three hundred kilometers. And, as was the case for most civilizations, the interests of a larger city were intertwined with those of a smaller city located close by, and vice versa, the interests of Andaton City were tightly intertwined with those of Nawarin City. The Sezile Family was the heavyweight with enormous influence in Nawarin city.

"What of the Sezile family?" Wenton questioned.

Hearing the name of this family, he had shed all his nonchalance and the haughty, superior attitude he had been displaying.

"The Sezile family," Edward continued. "It was on their recommendation that I recruited Angelica as an instructor at the academy."

"She had a recommendation from the Sezile family?" Riguras questioned in a shocked voice. "What happened? Tell me everything in detail."
