Chapter 89: The Abnormal Jack

Editor: Henyee Translations

Anita stopped in her tracks when she heard Jack’s voice. "What’s wrong?"

Jack hesitated for a long time without saying anything.

"Jack, I’m leaving if you have nothing to say," Anita said while glancing at Jack again.

"Anita, wait a minute. I saw it this morning," Jack suddenly said loudly.

"You saw... what did you see?" Anita asked, turning to Jack.

"You got out of a luxury car in the morning and a man rolled down his window to say goodbye to you," Jack said to Anita.

"So what? What does it have to do with you?" Anita waited for a long moment. She expected Jack to say something important, but he just said he saw Owen send her to work.

"Aren’t you going to explain? Who is that man?" Jack, seeing Anita’s attitude, said angrily.

Anita felt no obligation to explain herself to anyone else, so she turned and walked out.

"Wait a minute. Tell me who that man is? Is he your boyfriend?" Jack asked as he caught up with Anita, who was almost at the door.

"If you want to know, then I’ll tell you. That man is my husband. Can I go now?" With that, Anita shook off Jack’s hand and headed out.

"He’s your husband? How is that possible? You’re actually married?" Jack stood there muttering to himself in disbelief.

Anita stepped out of the lab and took a deep breath while trying to forget what had just happened. She had to admit that she had just said those things because Jack had pushed her into a corner.

But it was good to say it out so that he wouldn’t get his hopes up.

By the time Anita returned to the lab after dinner, everyone was gone. Jack was nowhere to be found. He still hadn’t returned. She had every intention of asking the people around her, but since no one wanted to talk to her, she wouldn’t bother them.

She didn’t see Jack again in the lab for the next two days. She was relieved to hear that he took a leave of absence.

"Anita," a male voice suddenly called out while stopping Anita.

The experiment didn’t end that early today. Owen had sent her a message saying he was coming to pick her up, so she hurried to the school gate this morning after her experiment ended.

She’d been so focused on seeing Owen that she’d had no idea when someone had appeared behind her. It wasn’t until this person spoke that Anita realized what was happening.

"Who is it?" As she spoke, she quickly turned around to look.

"It’s me, Jack," the man said as he walked to Anita.

Anita finally got a good look at the face under the hat. "Jack, what are you doing?" she said while patting her chest. "You scared me." freeweɓnøvel.com

Jack took off his hat when he heard Anita’s rather intimate words and took two more steps forward.

She took two steps back and said, "Jack, what have you been doing for the past two days? Aren’t you afraid of dragging down the experimental progress?" Anita looked at Jack, who was quite close to her, and felt that something was wrong.

"Anita, I’m on leave because I have something I need to think about," Jack said while looking into Anita’s eyes.

"Really? What is it that you need to take time off to think about?" Anita held her phone and smiled.

"I’ll tell you what it is later. By the way, are you going home now?" Jack asked while smiling at Anita, who had been backing away.

"Well, yeah, the trial ended a little late today," Anita relaxed when she saw that Jack was finally no longer so close to her.

Jack saw that Anita’s expression had finally relaxed, so he smiled and said, "It’s too late. Let me send you."

Anita was about to wave her hand and refuse, but before she could say anything, Jack turned his head and walked forward.

Anita could only follow helplessly.

"By the way, what have you been doing these two days? Do you know that my mentor has asked me several times?" Anita caught up with Jack and asked.

"Didn’t I just tell you I’d tell you later?" Jack said to Anita.

"Pfft, you’re so mysterious. Don’t tell me you didn’t want to tell me about some good research project?" Anita pouted.

"You’re worrying too much. You’re so capable. What experimental project can I find that surpasses yours?" Jack said as he reached out and touched Anita’s hair.

Anita instinctively thought Jack’s gesture was too intimate, but before she could refuse, Jack gave her only a light caress before quickly leaving.

"You have a little leaf on your head," Jack said as he extended the little leaf toward Anita.

Anita smiled sheepishly at the small leaf Owen handed her. She’d thought Jack had done it on purpose earlier, but he’d just removed the fallen leaf from her head.

"Thank you." Anita, her ears slightly red, lowered her head.

"It’s okay, let’s go," Jack said with a smile.

"By the way, when are you coming to the laboratory tomorrow?" Jack took a few steps forward and turned to ask Anita.
