Chapter 30: Parents’ Reaction

Editor: Henyee Translations

How should she tell her parents about her marriage?

It was so sudden and they were getting married so quickly. She wondered what they would think.

Annie, who was lost in thought, heard her phone ring.

Anita pulled out her phone and saw that it was Owen’s father, Mr. Jacob.

"Miss Anita, I’m sorry to disturb you so late," Mr. Jacob spoke first.

"It’s okay," Anita said quickly.

"I heard Owen say the day before yesterday that you two were going to get married. My wife and I were really excited. It’s really awesome that you and Owen are together." Jacob expressed his joy directly.

Anita started to feel bad when she heard Jacob say that. She could feel that Mr. Jacob was really happy, but after all, she and Owen were just in a contracted marriage.

But they really liked her. She wondered how sad they would be when they found out the truth in the future.

"Mr. Jacob, don’t say that. I feel very honored to be with Mr. Owen. I also feel very happy to be able to get to know you and Madam Sylvia," Anita said after a moment of thought.

"Okay." Jacob was relieved to hear Anita say that.

Actually, Jacob had called just to confirm if Anita really wanted to marry Owen.

After all, she and Mia looked so much alike. Jacob was also afraid that his son had decided to be with Anita out of impulse.

That would really hurt Anita a lot, so he and his wife had talked about it for a few days and decided that he would call Anita to confirm whether or not Anita really wanted to marry Owen.

"Well, Anita, see if your parents have time the next few days. Let’s have a meal together," Jacob said.

"Mr. Jacob, my father just finished his surgery. It might not be very convenient," Anita said while pretending to be conflicted.

The truth was, it wasn’t that Anita didn’t want Owen’s parents to meet with her parents. It was just that this contractual marriage was something that was already set in stone.

However, Anita still did not want this to really become about the two of them getting married. That would make Anita feel even more uncomfortable. That was why she rejected Mr. Jacob’s request.

"His health is more important, so let’s meet again sometime soon," Mr. Jacob said with understanding.

"Thank you," Anita said. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"I won’t bother you then, Miss Anita. Goodbye," Jacob said.

"Goodbye, Mr. Jacob," Anita said politely as well.

After hanging up, Anita let out a small sigh and started walking home. freewebnøvel.com

The wedding kept moving forward. There was barely any need for Anita to worry. Owen had arranged everything well.

So Anita called home in her spare time to tell her parents about her marriage.

"Mom, call Dad over. I have something to tell you two. Don’t be too excited when you hear it," Anita said nervously.

"What is it, Anita?" Mom said.

"Mother, I’m getting married," Anita said softly.

"What? Marry? To whom?" Mom couldn’t react in time. Anita only said she had a boyfriend. Why was she suddenly getting married?

"Mom, this person’s name is Owen. He used to go to my school. The two of us are alumni," Anita said before her parents could ask.

"Owen?" Her mom was puzzled. "Why did his name suddenly become Owen? Isn’t he called Eric?"

Suddenly hearing her mother mention Eric, Anita remembered that she hadn’t told her parents about the breakup. They didn’t know they had broken up yet.

"Mom, Eric and I broke up a long time ago," Anita said.

"Owen was the person who lent our family money for Dad’s surgery," Anita continued.

"Really? Anita, tell me honestly, why did you marry him? Was it because our family borrowed his money?" her mom suddenly asked in a harsh voice.

"No, Mom, you’re worrying too much." Hearing her mother say this, Anita quickly explained, "Mom, Owen is very outstanding. And we met each other because I saved Owen’s mother."

Her mother was still in disbelief. "Do the two of you like each other?"

Anita froze at the word "like". The word had been removed from their relationship ever since Owen had suggested a contract marriage.

"I do. The two of us like each other," Anita said while pretending to be happy.

It was only when she heard Anita say that she liked him that she started to believe her. It was sudden, but if they liked each other, she could accept it.
