Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Arena Defense Battle

Soon, Gu Jue looked up and gave her a small smile. "Mr. Lu, I can’t be there to witness it today, but I’m sure you’ll successfully defend your position. Good luck."

Lu Sangjiu smiled faintly. "I will. You get some rest. I’m heading out."

After returning to the venue, as evening approached, it was finally Lu Sangjiu’s turn to defend her position.

By now, Luo Linlang and the others who had already finished their battles had all gathered here again to watch.

Lu Sangjiu had originally thought that by this point, there were likely no powerful people left with a chance to challenge her, and she could win this match easily.

But to her surprise, just as she stepped onto the stage, someone jumped up impatiently. "I challenge you! I’ve been waiting for you all day, and the time has finally come!"

Lu Sangjiu: "..."

’Do I... really look that weak?’

The male cultivator was very excited, rubbing his hands together. "I saw your last match. All you’ve got is a strong defense, right? Well, I happen to specialize in breaking through defenses. You’re guaranteed to lose!"

Lu Sangjiu’s expression was peculiar. Then, she nodded sincerely. "Mhm... you do look very strong. Please go easy on me."

The male cultivator burst out laughing. "Don’t worry, I’ll make sure your loss isn’t too embarrassing!"

With that, he instantly summoned three Flying Swords. "Take this!"

At his command, all three Flying Swords surged toward Lu Sangjiu. Their attacks were incredibly agile, pincering her from the front and back while striking at every possible opening.

No wonder he claimed to specialize in countering defenses. The techniques Lu Sangjiu had used before, whether it was Duoduo’s Ice Wall or her own Heavenly Origin Infinite Shield, only formed in front of her. They had only worked because Yan Zui’s Spells couldn’t change direction.

But these three Flying Swords were far more agile, rendering Lu Sangjiu’s two types of shields obviously useless.

’But... who gave him the mistaken impression that defense was all I’m good at?’

Lu Sangjiu executed the Flying Cloud Step, her figure instantly flashing nimbly all over the arena. The three Flying Swords couldn’t even touch her shadow.

The male cultivator couldn’t keep up with Lu Sangjiu’s speed. Before long, he was in a flustered panic, sweat beading on his forehead.

Meanwhile, Lu Sangjiu had already seized an opportunity to get behind him. Without using any flashy techniques, she simply struck his back over the heart. The male cultivator immediately spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed, unable to get up.

Lu Sangjiu looked at her hand in surprise. "Sheesh... Is your defense really that weak?"

’I already went easy on him, so how come he still looks so badly hurt?’

However, just as she was thinking this, she suddenly sensed something. Her body swayed to the right, and a Flying Sword zipped right past her.

At the same time, she reacted with incredible speed and plopped down right on the male cultivator’s back. "Trying to play dead and launch a sneak attack, huh? Do you believe I’ll give you a live demonstration of what it means to desecrate a corpse?"

She held a dagger to the male cultivator’s neck. The ice-cold sensation made him shudder, and he didn’t dare play dead any longer.

"No, no, no! I surrender! Can’t I just surrender?!"

The male cultivator looked embarrassed. Knowing his sneak attack had failed and he had no other chances, he surrendered decisively.

Hearing him surrender, Lu Sangjiu’s expression changed in a flash. She was all smiles again. "Now that’s more like it. Thank you for the match, fellow Daoist."

After the male cultivator stepped down, a Female Cultivator came up.

This Female Cultivator wasn’t as talkative as the last guy. After getting on stage, she simply nodded at Lu Sangjiu as a greeting and then immediately attacked.

The Female Cultivator was a Magic Cultivator with a Fire Spirit Root who specialized in fire. She opened with a sea-of-flames tactic, surrounding Lu Sangjiu and leaving her nowhere to hide.

Without a word, Lu Sangjiu leaped into mid-air and summoned Duoduo.

The horn on Duoduo’s head flashed with light as it unleashed the Ice Condensation Technique, slamming it down onto the flames below.

Its Ice Ability was mutated, and ordinary flames like these were no match for it at all.

And so, everyone watched as the sea of fire instantly transformed into a sea of ice.

When Lu Sangjiu landed back on the ground, Duoduo thoughtfully cleared away the ice beneath her feet, giving her a solid place to stand.

The Female Cultivator on the other side, in contrast, was in a much sorrier state. She had also leaped into the air to dodge Duoduo’s attack, but now the entire arena was covered in ice. When she came down, she had no choice but to land on the icy surface.

The bone-chilling cold instantly sent a shiver through her entire body, and she was shocked to discover that her feet, which were touching the ice, had seemingly gone numb!

Her expression changed. She immediately channeled her flames to burn the ice at her feet, only to find that after a long effort, it had barely melted at all.

Lu Sangjiu didn’t take the opportunity to attack, but her opponent already knew her defeat was certain.

And so, after her expression shifted several times, she finally chose not to persist, merely pursing her lips and saying, "I surrender."

And with that, Lu Sangjiu had won her second match. Aside from some of Duoduo’s Spiritual Power being consumed, she herself had used almost no energy. It was, by all accounts, an easy victory.

As for Duoduo, Lu Sangjiu immediately gave it an Elixir Pill. During the break between matches, its Spiritual Power would have more than enough time to mostly recover.

By now, everyone could see that while Lu Sangjiu looked harmless, she was actually a formidable opponent!

As a result, everyone just looked at each other, and no one dared to rashly go up on stage.

Generally speaking, if no one came up to challenge after one incense stick’s worth of time, the defender would automatically advance.

Seeing the situation, everyone thought she would most likely advance directly. But soon, a male cultivator’s voice rang out, "I will challenge you."

The crowd turned to look and exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, isn’t that Zuo Qiuyan from Lingyin Pavilion?"

"I hear he’s very strong."

"But I heard he surrendered immediately in the last round. I thought he didn’t want to compete anymore. Why is he issuing a challenge now?"

Listening to the discussions below, Lu Sangjiu was taken aback. ’A Cultivator from Lingyin Pavilion?’

She subconsciously glanced at Feng Lin in the audience, but saw that Feng Lin’s expression was cold and indifferent as she looked at Zuo Qiuyan, showing no signs of worry.

’So Feng Lin and this guy don’t get along,’ she realized. ’In that case, I have no reason to hold back.’

Zuo Qiuyan walked onto the stage, his gaze cold as he stared at Lu Sangjiu. "You will pay the price today for making an enemy of my senior sister."

"Your senior sister?" Lu Sangjiu paused for a moment before it dawned on her. "Zhou Yun?"

Zuo Qiuyan snorted coldly. "It’s good that you know. I deliberately surrendered in the last round just so I could teach you a proper lesson here."

Lu Sangjiu’s gaze swept around the arena before she asked with particular sincerity, "But if you’re standing up for your senior sister, how come she hasn’t shown up?"

"Is she still busy taking care of that precious fiancé of hers? Too busy to even bother with you?"

Her words were like daggers twisting in Zuo Qiuyan’s heart. The man, who had been calm just a moment ago, was now so furious his face was contorting. "You... You shut your mouth!"

Lu Sangjiu blinked. "My, getting angry from embarrassment? Looks like I hit a nerve."

"Mr. Zuo, let me give you a piece of advice. Those two couldn’t be more perfect for each other. They should be locked down, so don’t you dare try to get in the middle of it."

She said this with the utmost sincerity, but Zuo Qiuyan was now completely enraged. "You’re courting death!"
