Chapter 414: Chapter 417: I’m Angry
At dinner, Manman was still describing to Feihua Zhenren how delicious river snails and crayfish were.
Feihua Zhenren got hungrier and hungrier as he listened. He kept refilling his bowl and, before he knew it, had eaten four bowls of rice.
He was stuffed to the gills. He took a few digestive elixirs and went for a walk outside, which made him feel a little better.
As for his weight-loss plan, it would have to be postponed for now.
He decided he would start his diet after he had a taste of the delicious river snails and crayfish.
After bathing, Manman and Li Ji got into bed.
As her excitement over the river snails and crayfish faded, sleepiness washed over her. Manman couldn’t help but yawn, ready to close her eyes and sleep.
But Li Ji wouldn’t let her.
Li Ji had been sulking ever since they returned from the lake.
But he didn’t say anything. He was deliberately acting gloomy and was aloof to anyone who spoke to him.
He wanted Manman to notice he was angry and ask him why.
But he waited and waited, and by the time they were about to go to sleep, Manman still hadn’t noticed.
Li Ji finally couldn’t wait any longer.
He asked sarcastically.
"What’s so delicious about those little bugs?"
Hua Manman didn’t register it at first. She asked groggily, "What little bugs?"
Li Ji huffed. "Aren’t they those things you had people pull out of the lake? They’re hideous. How could they possibly be delicious?"
Manman was dead tired and had no energy to argue with him. She just mumbled.
"They just are delicious."
Li Ji pinched her cheek. "You’re not allowed to sleep. Tell me clearly, just how are they delicious?"
Hua Manman slapped his hand away and whined.
"You’re so annoying."
She rolled over, turning her back to Li Ji.
This made Li Ji even angrier.
’How dare she call me annoying?!’
Li Ji shot up. "Hua Manman, get up."
Hua Manman was already asleep and didn’t respond at all.
He called her name several times with no response. Furious, he jumped out of bed and paced back and forth in the room like an irascible lion.
’Why hasn’t Manman noticed I’m angry?’
’I’ve been so obvious about it.’
’Is it because Manman doesn’t care about me at all?’
The more Li Ji thought about it, the angrier he became, and the angrier he got, the less he could sleep.
The next morning, when Manman woke up, the first thing she saw was Li Ji’s handsome face, dark as a thundercloud.
He was still in last night’s sleepwear, sitting cross-legged on the bed with his arms folded, staring at Hua Manman without blinking.
Hua Manman clearly saw the dark circles under his eyes and couldn’t help but ask.
"You didn’t sleep all night, did you?"
Li Ji said through gritted teeth, "You certainly slept soundly last night."
Hua Manman yawned. "Yes, very soundly."
The temperature here at night wasn’t high, making it very comfortable for sleeping. It was probably the best night’s sleep she’d had since becoming pregnant.
Li Ji pressed, refusing to give up, "Did you really not notice anything wrong with me last night?"
Hua Manman looked completely bewildered.
"What was wrong with you?"
Li Ji’s anger flared.
’She really didn’t notice!’
’She doesn’t care about me at all!’
Hua Manman sat up and tugged at the collar of her nightgown, which had slipped down a little.
"If you’re not feeling well, you should have Feihua Zhenren take a look at you."
Li Ji lunged toward her, enunciating each word.
"I’m angry. I’m very angry right now. And I’m inconsolable!"
With that, he leaped out of bed, threw on a robe, and stormed out.
Leaving Hua Manman sitting on the bed, stunned.
A giant question mark slowly floated above her head.
’It’s the crack of dawn. What’s gotten into that damn man now?’
Si Yun and Qing Huan came in.
After this period of rest, the wound on Qing Huan’s arm had mostly healed.
Qing Huan went forward to help make the bed while Si Yun set down a basin of water. As she helped the Princess Consort wash up, she asked cautiously.
"Your Highness, did you and the Prince have an argument?"
Hua Manman spit out her mouthwash and replied casually, "No."
Si Yun was confused. "But I just saw the Prince go out, and he didn’t look very happy."
"Not very happy" was an understatement.
A moment ago, Prince Zhao had looked so murderous, like the living King of Hell himself. A child would have burst into tears on the spot.
Hua Manman wiped her face with a damp cloth and said vaguely.
"He said he’s angry."
Si Yun was completely bewildered.
’What does "He said he’s angry" even mean?’
’That’s such a weird way to put it!’
After washing up, Hua Manman changed into a loose and comfortable ruqun. The light green skirt paired with a moon-white, light-gauze top looked fresh and elegant in the sweltering summer heat.
She put on a pair of white, soft-soled silk slippers and walked out of the room with Qing Huan’s support.
At breakfast, Hua Manman saw only Feihua Zhenren, not Prince Zhao.
"Where is the Prince? Why isn’t he here for breakfast?"
Jinxiu said cautiously, "The Prince is practicing his sword forms. He said he’s not hungry and doesn’t want to eat right now."
Hua Manman recalled Prince Zhao’s furious expression from that morning and couldn’t help but ask.
"What was his expression like when he said he didn’t want to eat? Did he look very angry?"
Jinxiu nodded. "Yes."
’Very angry? He looked like he was about to explode!’
It scared Jinxiu so much he didn’t dare ask more. After getting her answer, he scurried away with his shoulders hunched.
Hua Manman really didn’t know what to say. The great Prince Zhao was skipping a meal just because he was throwing a tantrum.
Besides finding it funny, she also thought it was a little cute.
Hua Manman had someone prepare a bowl of chicken noodle soup.
She carried the noodles to find Li Ji.
Li Ji was practicing his sword in the backyard. Because he was bottling up his anger, every move was filled with killing intent. The blade swept past with overwhelming force, hacking the surrounding flowers and trees to pieces.
Anyone who didn’t know better would think a typhoon had just passed through.
Hua Manman called out, "Prince."
In truth, Li Ji had noticed Manman as soon as she approached the backyard.
But he didn’t stop, continuing to practice on his own, the longsword in his hand whistling through the air with power.
Only when Hua Manman called out to him did he finally stop his sword forms.
Beads of sweat trickled down his jaw and into his collar. The back of his shirt was soaked, faintly revealing the firm muscles beneath.
"What are you doing here?"
Having just finished practicing, he was still a little breathless, and his voice was deeper and huskier than usual.
Hua Manman’s ears tingled.
She walked over with the chicken noodle soup, giving him a sweet smile.
"The chicken noodle soup is especially delicious today. The broth was made from chickens raised right here on the estate, so it’s very fresh. I brought a bowl especially for you to try."
Li Ji huffed. "I’m not eating."
Hua Manman wheedled in a soft voice, "Come on, eat. Just have a little bite~"
He was a total sucker for this.
He struggled to keep a straight face, determined not to show any weakness.
"I thought you didn’t care about me at all? Why do you care if I eat or not?"
