Chapter 16: Nun
"I thought you wouldn’t come..." — Lucian’s voice rang out, as if he were in surprise, though he knew perfectly well she would come.
"I would not dare to disobey the master’s order and request," — she said, looking at the floor, but there was a smirk on her face.
They were in some guest room not far from the academy, but it was, shall we say, one of the expensive places that only wealthy people could afford. Heavy velvet curtains completely cut off the night chill, and soft, muted light from wall sconces cast deep shadows on the expensive dark wood furniture and carpets with complex patterns. The air here was saturated with a barely perceptible aroma of expensive perfume and incense, creating an intimate yet at the same time tense atmosphere.
"You know, I am very hungry right now... Feed me and at the same time tell me how everything is going," — he said, inviting the girl to the bed, which was large and beautiful.
The girl began to walk step by step toward the bed but suddenly stopped and immediately looked at Lucian.
Her eyes glowed with purple colors like a flower that is thirsty for someone to give it water.
"Master, may I go to the shower first?" she said, pointing to the shower which was also not inferior in beauty to the room itself.
"Of course, I can wait," he said and simply sat down in an armchair himself, taking a cup of aromatic tea in his hands.
’Ruthless... This guy is very smart, of course I knew he was smart.’
’If that nun is right then Ruthless will be very useful to me....’
THE DAY RUTHLESS ARRIVED IN THIS WORLD
"Why did you call me?" said Lucian, looking at the nun who was praying to God; her eyes were closed, her hands were clenched, and she seemed to be repeating something from within.
’And how long does she intend to stand like that? She said there are important conversations that will help my plans.’
’But she is so slow, I would have killed her instantly but I need her very much. Despite being slow she can foresee the future and the present.’
"I received a message from our god..." she began to speak slowly with a gentle voice.
’Your god!’ he wanted to say but still kept it inside as little could happen.
The rational part of his mind understood that angering a prophet was unprofitable. There’s no telling what might happen if her prediction turned against him.
The nun slowly opened her eyes. There was no usual fanatical glint in them—only a frightening, endless emptiness, as if she were looking not at Lucian, but through him, into the very fabric of the universe.
"Today the fabric of space and time over our academy has worn thin," she continued quietly, and her fingers, clutching the beads, trembled slightly. "An anomaly has entered this world. A soul that should not be here. A black abyss absorbing light."
Lucian narrowed his eyes; his relaxed pose instantly changed to the tension of a predator sensing a trail.
"An anomaly? And who is it? Another hidden genius from the righteous clans? Or a demon sealed in a human body?" — a cold smirk slipped into his voice.
"No," the nun shook her head, her face remaining absolutely pale and motionless. "He has no great lineage. The blood of an ordinary person flows in his veins. But his mind... his mind is hard to describe."
Lucian froze. These words resonated with his own internal philosophy.
"What is his name?" Lucian asked, taking a step forward.
"God gave only one remark and it is: Eyes," she said, looking at a statue of a person whose face was unfinished because no one knew what he looked like.
’If this person is truly that smart, he could become the best ally or even a tool for my plan. With his help, I will be able to create a new world where patriarchy will rule.’
"You’re thinking of using him in our plan right now, aren’t you?" the nun said, looking at Lucian with a cold gaze that pierced right through him.
But Lucian was already used to such gazes because every time he meets her, her gaze always changes as if she were hostile even though they are outwardly allies.
’Lying is useless; moreover, we are currently allies, so for now, information can be shared,’ he thought.
"Yes, you are right, I am going to use him to achieve our plan. Well, he will serve us for a good cause that will change the world for the better in the future," he said with a smile.
The nun closed her eyes again, but this time she decided to just sit down.
"You have remained exactly as you were before, a simple hypocrite," she said, now with a smile.
’Hypocrite?! I would tear your head off right here if you weren’t profitable for me...’
"You realize that even if I were ordinary, you wouldn’t have enough strength to kill me," she said, and the smile on her face was still there.
"As I see, you, just like back then, know how to read a person’s thoughts..." he said, turning toward the exit door.
"As I see, you, just like back then, forgot that I don’t read thoughts; I understand the motives of thoughts by reading micro-expressions and non-verbal signals," she said, and at the same time managed to get on Lucian’s nerves.
’What a lie...’ having said this, he stepped out.
PRESENT TIME
The sound of pouring water from the shower stall returned Lucian from memories to reality. He took a sip of aromatic tea, feeling warmth spreading through his body. His sinister smile played on his lips again.
The bathroom door opened slightly, and warm steam billowed from there, carrying the scent of freshness. The girl with purple eyes came out, drying her hair with a towel, and her gaze, full of submission and hidden cunning, fixed on Lucian again.
"Well then, master..." she said quietly, taking a step toward the large bed. "I am ready to tell you about the ancient sword..."
