Chapter 94: Widow’s Bite (2)

As Shinon’s shadowy tendrils coiled and twisted around him, he faced off against Stephen in the dimly lit chamber. The atmosphere crackled with tension, and the air seemed heavy with the anticipation of impending battle.

Stephen, battered and bruised, his once confident demeanour reduced to a mere semblance of its former self, clenched his fists and prepared for what he knew would be a desperate fight.

Shinon stood tall, his eyes fixed on Stephen with an enigmatic calmness. His shadowmancy abilities granted him an advantage, allowing him to manipulate darkness and shadows to his will.

It was a power that Stephen had underestimated, and now he would pay the price for his arrogance like his lackeys, whose bodies were strewn around on the floor.

With a flick of his wrist, Shinon summoned a torrent of shadowy energy, lashing out at Stephen with incredible speed. The dark tendrils snaked through the air, aiming to ensnare and immobilise their target. Stephen, however, managed to evade the initial assault, ducking and weaving with desperate agility.

The room became a chaotic battlefield as Shinon’s shadows clashed with Stephen’s dwindling strength. Each move was precise and calculated as Shinon toyed with his opponent, teasing and taunting him.

He held back, intentionally prolonging the fight, wanting Stephen to suffer for his crimes before delivering the final blow.

"Enough of this."

As Shinon was on the brink of delivering the decisive strike, a soft, melodic voice pierced the air, interrupting their duel. The unexpected intrusion halted Shinon in his tracks, his attention shifting toward the figure that had entered the chamber.

The figure emerged from the shadows, stepping into the light cast by the flickering torches. Dressed in dark robes that concealed the person’s features, they exuded an aura of authority and danger.

"Gentlemen, if I may have a moment of your attention?"

Shinon’s eyes widened slightly as he took in the figure before him. He sensed a formidable power emanating from them, much more potent than his shadowmancy.

Shinon got overwhelmed by an instinctual understanding that the person was someone he should not underestimate. It was then that Stephen’s trembling voice broke the silence.

"W-Widow..." Stephen stammered, his voice laced with fear.

Widow inclined her head ever so slightly, acknowledging the recognition. "Yes, Stephen, I’m surprised you still remember who holds the true power in this camp."

Shinon couldn’t believe his eyes when Widow revealed ’himself’. He was a woman much like he had argued before, draped in a cloak of darkness, her presence both captivating and unsettling.

Her eyes glimmered with a subtle, dangerous allure. Shinon felt a strange pull towards her, an undeniable sense of familiarity he couldn’t quite place. The more he thought about it, the more his head hurt.

Shinon’s grip tightened around his shadow-infused sword, his mind calculating the odds. He was outnumbered, and the mysterious aura surrounding Widow made him wary.

However, it was the perfect opportunity for him to get rid of her and be over with bandits. Unfortunately for him, dozens of guys entered the room before he could do anything.

Moreover, these guys were much stronger than Stephen. Although they were not on Marcus’s level, Shinon knew fighting them there was a bad idea.

"You’ve certainly caused quite a stir, Shinon," she said, calm and composed. "But this affair concerns me and my traitorous captain here, not you. So you and your friend are free to leave." freёwebnovel.com

Shinon stood there, his eyes widening in surprise as the Widow addressed him by name. But before he could mention it, she spoke again.

"Shinon," she said, her voice carrying a hint of familiarity. "You may wonder how I know you."

He took a step forward, his gaze fixed on her.

"Indeed, I do," he replied, his voice tinged with curiosity and caution. "I’ve never crossed paths with you before. How is it that you know who I am?"

As she met his gaze, a small smile played upon the Widow’s lips.

"Some things are destined, Shinon," she answered cryptically. "The threads of fate weave intricate patterns, bringing people together unexpectedly. You and I are connected, though the nature of that connection remains shrouded."

Shinon furrowed his brow, his mind racing with questions. "You don’t seem to be a fortune teller. But don’t you think it’s rude for you to know who I am but not introduce yourself?"

The Widow’s eyes gleamed with a glimmer of amusement. "Ah, the beauty lies in the unknown, doesn’t it? Life is but a tapestry woven with mystery and intrigue. Your purpose, Shinon, will reveal itself in due time."

Shinon was visibly agitated by Widow’s answers, but he knew he could do nothing in the situation as he was entirely under the Widow’s mercy.

The Widow seemingly read his mind as she took a step closer, her presence enveloping him as she whispered in his ears. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"Patience, Shinon," her voice sent a chill down his spine. "All will be revealed when the time is right. Trust in the journey and embrace the enigma that surrounds us. But if you want a cheat code... I suggest you hurry up to level 100."

"You-" Shinon was left hanging as he realised he wasn’t the only one with a system.

He immediately opened the map with his eyes and saw that the colour of Widow’s marker was green... which meant she was an ally? But how could he be allied with someone he didn’t even know about?

As the conversation between Shinon and the Widow unfolded, a commotion arose. Shinon’s gaze shifted, his eyes narrowing as he noticed several of the Widow’s men dragging Stephen away. The bandit struggled against their grip, his face contorted with fear and desperation.

"Wait!" Shinon called out, his voice laced with urgency. But Widow interrupted him.

"In my world, loyalty and betrayal are matters of consequence," she replied, devoid of sympathy. "Stephen chose his path, and now he must face the consequences. Power and survival are the ultimate currencies, and sentimentality has no place in the grand scheme of things."

As the Widow’s men disappeared into the shadows with Stephen in tow, Shinon’s gaze turned to Selena sleeping pleasantly inside the shadowy cocoon.

"Take Selena and leave, Shinon," she said, her voice carrying a hint of anticipation. "Our paths will cross again sooner than you think. I Shall quell your curiosity then."

"Why are you letting us go?" Shinon questioned, his voice tinged with suspicion. "What game are you playing?"

The Widow’s lips curled into a subtle smile, her eyes gleaming with amusement.

"Consider it a gesture of goodwill," she replied cryptically.

Before Shinon could say anything, Widow cut him off once again.

"Until we meet again, Shinon," she whispered, her words carried by the wind. "May fate guide your path."
