Chapter 76: [Bonus Chapter: 2/3] Night Of The Zombie Dogs (2)

Selena’s eyes widened in surprise as the shadows enveloped her, offering a momentary respite.

"Shinon, what...?" she began, her voice confused. "I can’t do anything like this! How am I supposed to fight when I’m trapped inside this shadow thingy!?"

Shinon’s voice cut through the chaos, his tone firm. "Well, Selena, considering the fact that you were getting overwhelmed, I thought becoming a cocoon was a better option for you." frёewebηovel.cѳm

"How...you know what, fine. Do it yourself."

His words stung, but Selena knew deep down that he was right. Her skills were faltering in the face of the relentless onslaught. She nodded, accepting the truth in his statement, and focused on catching her breath within the shelter of the shadow shield. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

With Selena protected, Shinon unleashed his shadowmancer abilities, channelling the darkness within him. Shadows coiled around his hands, forming elongated tendrils that darted towards the nearest zombie dog.

The tendrils wrapped around the creature’s limbs, immobilising it, while another tendril pierced through its decaying flesh, causing it to crumble to the ground.

Selena watched in awe as Shinon dispatched the undead foes with effortless precision. Ever since she had met him, things had been this way, and Shinon was always rescuing her from trouble.

Although she should have disliked the feeling, she couldn’t help but enjoy those moments as, in her mind, it showed that Shinon still cared about her.

’Well, it wasn’t like I couldn’t have handled the dogs myself,’ Selena thought as she relaxed inside the cocoon. ’I just wanted to know if you’d protect me or not.’

As Shinon continued his onslaught, he couldn’t help but tease Selena. "Hey, Selena, remember when you used to be a fearsome warrior? I guess zombie dogs have a way of humbling even the best of us."

"Oh, please, Mr. Shadowmancer. Don’t let your newfound abilities go to your head. You’re not the only one with skills around here," Selena scowled, her voice dripping with annoyance. "Let me use my gun and see what happens next."

"Of course, I’m not the only one with abilities," Shinon smirked. "I’m sure your flailing about and screaming was quite intimidating to them."

"Just focus on what you’re doing."

Shinon twirled gracefully, his eyes meeting Selena’s with a mischievous glint. "Ah, yes, the ever-serious Selena. My apologies for tarnishing the battlefield with humour."

Selena rolled her eyes and gathered her breath, her eyes fixed on the dogs that circled just beyond the barrier, their menacing growls reverberating in the night.

Meanwhile, Shinon embraced his role as the protector. He lashed out, striking the dogs with lethal precision. As he did that, the shadowy tendrils coiled around the legs of the dogs, ripping them up.

The dogs snarled and thrashed, their undead forms breaking down under the intense grip of the shadows.

[Necrotoxin is active.]

As the shadow tendrils immobilised the zombie dogs, Shinon unsheathed his gleaming sword with practised ease. So far, Necrotoxin was the only element Shinon had encountered that could ’poison’ the undead, and that’s why it had become his go-to method of dispatching the zombies.

Swift and precise, Shinon moved with the grace of a seasoned warrior. His strikes were a symphony of calculated precision and fluidity, each swing finding its mark. The sword sliced through the air, meeting the decaying flesh of the zombie dogs with a resounding clash.

The clash of metal against rotting flesh filled the night as Shinon pressed the attack. He danced between the snarling zombie dogs, each movement a testament to his skill and agility. His strikes were quick and lethal, with deadly accuracy, the blade finding gaps in their defences.

With every foe he dispatched, the shadows surrounding him seemed to grow stronger, feeding off the remnants of the defeated zombies. Dark wisps coiled around Shinon’s limbs, enhancing his speed and strength, further amplifying his prowess in combat.

Feeling a surge of renewed energy, Selena stepped out from the shelter of the shadow shield. She brandished her blades once more, her movements infused with newfound determination. Though still fatigued, she refused to remain on the sidelines while Shinon fought alone.

"Think you can take care of yourself?" Shinon took another jab at her.

"Why? Are you scared I’ll take the spotlight off you?" Selena replied, her smile equally wide as his.

She followed Shinon’s lead, observing and adapting his techniques to her style. As Shinon engaged the zombie dogs head-on, Selena manoeuvred around them, seeking openings and exploiting their weaknesses.

Together, they forged a formidable team, their movements synchronised as they navigated the dance of battle. Shinon’s swordplay was complemented by Selena’s agility, their coordinated attacks leaving little room for the zombie dogs to counter.

The air crackled with tension as the fight intensified. Sensing their dwindling numbers, the remaining zombie dogs grew more desperate in their attacks.

Their movements became erratic and uncoordinated, their decaying bodies unable to match the finesse and skill of their adversaries.

Selena, her determination unyielding, pushed herself to the limit. Her blades danced through the air, each strike a testament to her resolve. She found her rhythm, flowing seamlessly between offence and defence, her movements a blur of calculated precision.

Shinon, ever vigilant, watched over Selena as she fought, his shadowmancer abilities providing an added layer of protection. Shadows swirled around them, shielding them against stray attacks and offering momentary glimpses into the darkness that enveloped their enemies.

As the last of the zombie dogs fell to the ground, Shinon turned to Selena.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his tone surprisingly gentle.

Selena nodded. "It could have been worst if you weren’t here."

Shinon nodded, sheathing his sword. "We need to keep moving; there could be more of them out there."

Selena nodded, following Shinon as they continued on their mission. The two walked in silence, each lost in their own thoughts, not noticing the man observing them from the shadows.

"He’s gotten stronger..." Vlad mumbled through gritted teeth. "Roamer and Hounds are no match for him anymore. I’d need to take more drastic measures to capture him before it’s too late."
