Chapter 73: Job Request (1)

In the quiet solitude of his chamber, Shinon sat cross-legged on the floor, his eyes closed in deep concentration. Shadows danced around him, their ethereal forms shifting and swirling in response to his will.

He had spent countless hours delving into the realm of shadowmancy, harnessing the latent power within him, seeking to unlock its secrets. But slowly, he became acquainted with the limitations of his strength.

His brow furrowed with determination as he focused his energy, envisioning a small living creature taking shape from the very essence of shadows. freewebnøvel.com

The room grew hushed, the air heavy with anticipation. Shinon’s hands moved in intricate patterns, directing the shadow energy with precision. But each attempt ended in failure.

The shadows flickered and wavered, unable to solidify into the desired form. Shinon let out a frustrated sigh, his shoulders slumping in momentary defeat.

He had hoped that his increasing mastery of shadowmancy would grant him the ability to create life-like beings from the shadows themselves. Yet, time and time again, he fell short of his goal.

A notification from the system appeared before him, its words illuminating the screen in stark contrast to the dimly lit room.

[Level insufficient. Creation of living creatures beyond current capabilities.]

Shinon’s eyes narrowed, frustration and determination flickering within them. He had anticipated this challenge, knowing that his journey into shadowmancy would not be without its obstacles. He understood that the road to true mastery would require patience and perseverance.

Undeterred by the system’s prompt, Shinon let out a resolute breath. He refused to be limited by his current level. His thirst for knowledge and power burned within him, fueling his determination to overcome this setback. With renewed focus, he pushed forward, ready to explore the boundaries of his abilities.

His hands moved once more, this time with a heightened sense of purpose. He drew upon the depths of his shadowmancy, delving into the darker recesses of his own being.

The room seemed to grow colder as the shadows responded, intertwining and coalescing under his command. But still, his efforts fell short yet again.

The shadows twisted and writhed; their forms were tantalisingly close to achieving his desired creation, only to slip away like smoke in the wind. Shinon clenched his fists, frustration tinged with a hint of desperation. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

He yearned for the power to shape the shadows into living entities, to harness their potential to protect and serve. Once again, the system’s notification appeared, taunting him with its message.

[Insufficient mastery. Furthermore, please level up the skill <Shadow manipulation>.]

"Ah fuck..." Shinon mumbled as he slumped to the ground. "Looks like I’ll have to figure out some other way to spy on Tom and Marcus."

Shinon’s shoulders slumped, exhaustion and disappointment weighing heavily upon him. He had hoped that his relentless training would have yielded better results, that he could create a small shadowy creature capable of spying on Tom and Marcus, gathering the information he desired.

Since the creature would probably be able to hide inside someone’s shadow, none should be able to detect its presence.

While it was a great plan, it seemed Shinon had taken his skills for more than the tools they were. Unlike his creations, his abilities were bounded by the system, and even he couldn’t bypass the restrictions so easily.

"No point crying about it now," Shinon mumbled as he got up. "I need to think of another way to accomplish my need."

With a deep breath, Shinon let go of his disappointment and refocused his mind. He couldn’t allow setbacks to deter him from his ultimate goal.

"I thought since Marcus has a method to spy on me, I thought I’d play the same game with him-"

Lost in his musings, Shinon was jolted from his thoughts by a knock on the door. The sound echoed through the room, breaking the stillness of his contemplation.

He glanced towards the entrance, his curiosity piqued. He was surprised to find visitors early morning. Within moments he knew only one person would come to disturb him.

"Here comes the spy... or maybe I’m wrong."

As if sensing his presence, a shadowy tentacle emerged from the depths of the room. It snaked its way across the floor, its form ethereal and elusive, and reached for the doorknob. With a flicker of darkness, the tentacle turned the knob, and the door creaked open to reveal Selena standing outside.

Selena’s eyes widened with surprise and fascination as she witnessed the shadowy tentacle open the door. She hesitated for a moment before following the tentacle inside.

Selena’s eyes widened in amazement as she took in the sight before her. The room was a hive of activity, shadows dancing and moving with purpose.

The flickering light of the forge illuminated the workshop, revealing a multitude of similar tentacles diligently working the anvil, forging weapons with precise hammer strikes. It was as if Shinon was operating an automated workshop!

She stepped into the room, her voice filled with awe and curiosity. "Shinon, what is all this? I’ve never seen anything like it."

"Well, I thought I had the ability, so why not use them?" Shinon shrugged.

Shinon relied on the assistance of shadows to handle his overwhelming workload due to the multitude of orders he had accumulated.

The majority of these requests were straightforward tasks that did not necessitate any unique enhancements or customisation. Thus Shinon delegated them to his shadowy allies.

Naturally, Shinon would personally attend to the orders for armour and weapons he had received. However, he had aspirations of instructing the shadows in imbuing enchantments and incorporating additional options once he had acquired the necessary expertise through levelling up.

"Now I seem like a fool. Do you even need Tom’s help if you already have your shadows?" Selena shook her head.

"Technically, I don’t. But it’s all good." Shinon snapped his fingers, and the shadows stopped working. "So, do you need something?"

"Oh, right! Kind of forgot about it..." Selena leaned forward, her expression serious. "Shinon, I’ve been given a mission—a delicate one that requires utmost discretion and the skill set that only you possess."

"I’m listening."
