Chapter 56: There’s A Price For Everything (2)

Shinon was boiling with anger. How could Marcus even suggest trading Kira’s life for Rico’s? It was a despicable thing to do. His fists clenched, and his eyes glinted with fury as he stepped towards Marcus.

But before he could make a move, four guards rushed towards him. Shinon stood ready to fight, eyes scanning the four guards before him. They all carried guns, and their eyes were trained on him.

"You think you fuckers stand a chance against me?" Shinon warned the guards, who naturally didn’t back down.

Shinon felt a surge of adrenaline as he prepared to defend himself. He took a deep breath and began to move. The first guard aimed his rifle at Shinon, but he was too slow. Shinon darted forward; his sword bathed with Necrotoxin.

The guard barely had time to react before Shinon sliced through his weapon, cleanly severing it in two. The guard stumbled backwards in shock, and Shinon was already on to the next.

The second guard had a pistol, and he fired it at Shinon. Shinon blocked the bullet with a shadow tentacle before moving out of the way.

He brought his sword down hard, and the guard raised his weapon to block it. The sword bit into the gun and Shinon pushed with all his strength. The guard’s grip slipped, and the gun went flying.

The other two guards rushed forward, trying to take Shinon down. Shinon spun, his sword sweeping in a wide arc. The blade sliced through the air, and the guards ducked, trying to avoid it.

Shinon pressed the attack, moving with deadly grace. His sword whistled through the air, cutting down the guards one by one.

Finally, Shinon stood alone, breathing hard. The four guards lay at his feet, their weapons scattered around them. He looked up towards the Phoenixes; the smug looks on their faces were nowhere to be found.

Then Marcus got up from his seat, applauding Shinon for the show he put up for them. But that wasn’t all. Marcus wanted to test his strength himself. So he did what any man would do and taunted Shinon, using Kira yet again, something he didn’t take lightly.

Shinon saw red. He launched himself at Marcus, his fists flying. But Marcus was quick, and he quickly sidestepped Shinon’s attack, grabbing him by the arm and tossing him aside.

"You’re nothing but a fool," Marcus sneered, his eyes blazing with contempt. "You think you can come here and demand things from us? Do you think you’re so special? You’re nothing but a pathetic little man out of his time thinking he can tame everything in his sights."

Shinon scrambled to his feet, his body still throbbing with anger. "I’ve been meaning to get my hands on you for a while now."

Marcus just laughed, staring at Shinon as if he was a clown.

"And what are you going to do about it?" he taunted. "You can’t even protect yourself, let alone anyone else."

Shinon lunged at Marcus again, this time using his shadow abilities to the fullest. Marcus saw him coming and assumed a defensive position. However, at the last moment, Shinon disappeared from his sight, only to reappear behind him and kick him right in the head.

Unfortunately, Marcus was no weakling either. He grabbed Shinon’s leg and threw him over his shoulder before slamming the Shadowmancer to the ground.

Marcus then grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and shoved him up against the wall.

"You’re nothing," Marcus spat, his breath hot on Shinon’s face. "You’re weak, and you’re powerless. You think you can stand up to me using your petty tricks? You’re delusional."

Shinon struggled against Marcus’s grip, but it was no use. He was trapped, powerless to do anything. But if he couldn’t overpower him, he would use his surroundings against Marcus.

"Petty tricks? They are much more than that." ƒгeewёbnovel.com

With that thought in his mind, Shinon suddenly began sinking deeper and deeper into the wall. Marcus realised what Shinon was trying to do and immediately let go of him, but Shinon had grown to like his touch and wrapped around Marcus’ hand in an arm lock.

"The mighty Phoenix wants to run away?" Shinon snarled.

"You insolent bastard!"

With a fierce burst of energy, Marcus pushed himself away from Shinon, breaking free of his grip. He stumbled back, gasping for breath, but his eyes were ablaze with anger. Marcus just sneered, his lip curling in disdain.

"You’re a fool," he said. "But if you want to die so badly, I’m happy to oblige."

"...stop with the cliche already," Shinon replied, pulling his sword out for the final fight.

Marcus didn’t bother replying and launched himself at Shinon, his fists flying. Similar to Shinon, even Marcus decided he wouldn’t hold back anymore, summoning his abilities to aid him.

Shrouded in a red aura, he punched Shinon, who dodged the attack. But strangely enough, he still got hit, but from the opposite direction. The same thing happened again as Marcus enjoyed toying with Shinon. freewebnovёl.ƈom

However, he could only get a couple of hits when Shinon realised it was Marcus’ ability. Whenever he launched an attack, a part of the aura around him got ejected from his attacks. Which he then controlled to hit Shinon.

It was a neat trick, but once Shinon figured out the secret, he easily blocked the incoming attacks using his shadow weapons.

Shinon’s foot connected with Marcus’s head, and he felt a moment of satisfaction as the Phoenix leader stumbled back.

However, his satisfaction was short-lived, as Marcus only seemed to feel a small amount of pain before regaining his composure.

Shinon’s eyes widened in shock. How could someone just shrug off a hit like that? He had seen his fair share of tough opponents, but this was on a whole other level.

Marcus chuckled darkly, "You really think that would be enough to take me down, Shinon? You are truly foolish."

Shinon tensed up, ready to defend himself as Marcus moved towards him. However, to his surprise, Marcus merely walked past him towards a table with a few vials on it.

"I’ll let that slide for now, but know that any further displays of disrespect will not be tolerated," Marcus said as he picked up one of the vials.

Shinon watched him warily as Marcus uncorked the vial and drank its contents. The liquid inside glowed an eerie purple before fading away, and Marcus seemed to grow in size and strength before Shinon’s eyes.

"Now, let’s talk about what you owe me," Marcus said with a menacing grin. "Since you’re so against leaving Kira with us, you’ll have to work for us till you repay for our... favour. Now, you have two options, choose one, or I can kill you right here and now."

Shinon knew he was outmatched and outnumbered, and had no choice but to do as the Phoenixes wanted... for now.

Shinon let out a deep sigh as he accepted Marcus’s offer. He had no choice, and Rico’s life was on the line. He knew the Phoenixes were evil, but he had to do what he had to do. He nodded, trying to maintain his composure, even though he felt like a traitor to his beliefs.

"I accept your offer," Shinon said, trying to keep his voice steady.

Marcus smiled, satisfied with Shinon’s answer. "Good. Feel free to leave for now. We’ll summon you when we need your assistance. Also, ask Selena to get you marked. She’ll know what it means."

As soon as Shinon left the room, Marcus leaned on the table, caressing his face. He might not have shown it, but he was in a great deal of pain after getting hit by Shinon.

"That fucker got me good... damn it!"
