Chapter 258: Final Battle (2)
In the heart of the once-secure research facility, chaos unfolded as Miro’s monstrous form rampaged through the corridors. The air turned thick with a scent of death as Shinon desperately tried rushing out, but Miro was always a step ahead of him.
Shinon knew it was only a matter of time before the undead monster caught him, and he needed help to divert the attention off him.
"Trader!" Shinon’s voice crackled through the radio as he sprinted through the facility. "Forget about the remnants of Eclipse soldiers. We’ve got a damn undead monster on our hands!"
"Since when are you scared of the undead?" Trader scoffed.
"Not any monster... it’s the monster!"
The Trader’s voice, tinged with annoyance, responded, "What monster? What the hell are you talking about, Shinon?"
"Look-"
Before Shinon could answer, the monstrous creature burst through the facility, a grotesque fusion of Miro’s former self and the body mass that now enveloped him.
Not only the Trader but everyone on the battlefield was stunned to see the towering monster before them. Whether it was a friend or foe, everyone was scared shitless as Miro, or the monster he had turned into, shrieked, alerting nearby undead.
"Fuck!" Trader bit her tongue. "Zombies will be upon us from every direction! Prepare yourselves!"
Selena and the rest of the Phoenixes who were there immediately went into action mode, forming defence perimeters to defend against the zombies that would be attacking them soon.
Meanwhile, Trader and her personal force turned their focus to Miro to ensure Shinon got to safety. Once that was done, they’d devise a plan to end the monstrosity.
Shinon, still running from the undead beast, realised that this battle would be unlike any other. Soon, Trader urged everyone to focus fire on the monster to distract it away from Shinon. But it seemed like Miro’s undead eyes could only see Shinon and no one else.
As the fight ensued, Eclipse soldiers and remaining facility personnel took a surprising decision. Instead of fighting the survivors like they had been, they joined ranks with the Trader, desperately trying to fend off the undead onslaught.
However, Miro’s transformation had stripped him of all reason and senses. Senselessly, he attacked his own men, tearing through them with his countless tentacles made of biomass. freēwebnovel.com
He had become a monstrous force, an abomination that showed no mercy, even to those who were once his allies.
But for Miro, killing his own soldiers wasn’t enough. Instead, the monster absorbed them to get bigger, turning the rest into undead soldiers attacking anyone who got close to Miro.
"Damn it! As if things weren’t difficult enough already!"
Shinon, armed with his shadow-infused abilities, attempted to tear through the undead creature and stop it from turning more people into its soldiers.
Shadows writhed and lashed out, cutting Miro’s tentacles countless times but to no avail. Miro had turned into an unstoppable force and seemed unaffected by any form of attack.
Despite their combined efforts, none of them could put a scratch on Miro that lasted more than a few seconds before disappearing like they never existed.
Even Shinon’s most potent weapon, his rocket launcher imbued with shadow energy, barely scratched the surface of the undead monstrosity. Shinon couldn’t believe his eyes and kept firing shot after shot.
The explosions echoed through the facility, leaving a smoky aftermath, but Miro emerged unscathed, the tentacles swirling around him as if mocking Shinon’s futile attempt at stopping him.
The realisation hit Shinon like a ton of bricks – they were facing a losing battle. While the humans got exhausted after the continuous fighting, fueled by an insatiable hunger for destruction, the undead monster showed no signs of slowing down.
It was only a matter of time before people started losing focus and became easy targets for Miro’s tentacles to absorb. Desperation gripped Shinon as he tried his best to assess the situation.
During the chaos, Miro, sensing Shinon’s distraction, threw countless tentacles towards him. The attack was swift and brutal, catching Shinon off guard.
Shinon hastily raised half a dozen shadow shields to protect him from the blows. Despite that, his head burst open, and blinding pain blocked his senses. Shinon, now in a weakened state, fell like a ragdoll, the world spinning around him.
The remaining fighters, Eclipse soldiers and Trader’s army rallied to divert Miro’s attention away from the Shinon, who was in a vulnerable state. But the undead creature seemed fixated on him as if it recognised that Shinon was the one who killed him.
Amidst the frantic attempts to save Shinon, the reality of their situation became even more apparent – Miro was no longer in control and had lost himself to rage and hunger.
As Miro prepared to deliver the final blow to the weakened Shinon, a sudden voice cut through the madness. It was a roar that stunned even the undead Miro.
"Not my son, you monster!"
The words came from Caleb as he stepped forward, placing himself between Miro and Shinon, and fired away at the beast, knowing that this sacrifice might be the only way to save his son.
Shinon tried to push his father out of harm’s way. But couldn’t, as he was too weak to even raise a finger, let alone command the shadows around him.
Miro, without hesitation, launched a devastating assault on Caleb, who brought out a device to shield them and give them some precious time for Shinon to recover.
However, the shield wasn’t perfect, as a few tentacles made it through the barrier. Having no other way to protect Shinon, Caleb absorbed the brunt of the attack, his body contorting under the relentless onslaught.
"Go, Shinon!" Strained yet filled with love, Caleb’s voice reached his son amidst the chaos. "Make a break for it, son!"
Those were the final words Shinon heard from his father before he was consumed by Miro’s tentacles. A moment like that should have thrown Shinon into despair... instead, it filled him with rage. A rage that no one had ever felt before.
