Chapter 192: Show Off (3)

Emerging from the burning nest, a massive zombie crawled out of the literal hell hole. Standing at ten feet tall, the creature looked straight towards Shinon, the man who had taken its arm.

The massive zombie let out another earth-shaking roar as it emerged fully from the flaming nest, sending shivers down the spines of everyone who witnessed the zombie’s ascension from hell.

Its presence alone seemed to unleash an unsettling energy, enveloping the area in a suffocating aura of death.

Its body was a twisted mess of rotted flesh and bones held together by the dark, sickening blood of the undead.

Its skin hung loosely from its skeletal form as if it was barely holding to life as an undead. Its limbs were long and morphed, each step leaving a trail of embers behind.

The creature’s face had a frightening appearance. Its eyes blazed with an unsettling green light, filled with an unquenchable desire to destroy.

Its mouth opened wide, revealing rows of sharp, jagged fangs made of morphed human arms ready to rip through anything in its way.

’Fuck! Why do these creatures never show on the map in advance!?’ Shinon cursed the system’s inefficiency, and the system was quick to respond.

[Due to the sudden appearance of a new class of undead, the system couldn’t process the request. The creature <Necrognasher> has been added to the databank and will now appear on the User’s map.]

’Geez, thanks!’ Shinon sarcastically commented.

As the creature stood there, Shinon wasn’t the only one worried about defeating the Necrognasher. The others were tense as well.

"I thought we had taken care of them all," Lina stammered, her voice trembling with fear.

"This one must have been hiding deep within the nest," Alex said, her composed expression showing signs of unease.

The massive zombie took a step forward, its movements slow and deliberate, as if savouring the fear it instilled in its prey.

Oddly enough, while fire was the worst possible enemy of the undead, the necrognasher wasn’t affected by its burning back. If anything, it was enjoying the flames as they protected its back from any attacks.

"We have to put a stop to it right here!" John roared, his hands clenched. "If we don’t, this bastard will undoubtedly attract more undead bastards, creating a massive horde. God knows what will happen if it reaches the settlement."

"So, this is how it ends," Nix said with a bittersweet smile, accepting that it was their final mission together.

"Looks like it," John nodded, steeling himself for the battle ahead.

Alex took a deep breath, setting aside any fear or doubt. She readied her pistols, standing right beside her teammates. "If this is our fate, then we’ll face it head-on."

Lina glanced at her comrades. She was scared the most, but then again, her loyalty towards her friends overwhelmed the fear in her mind. She, too, readied herself for what seemed like an inevitable end. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"We stand together," she mumbled. "one last time."

However, Shinon had other plans. He didn’t know why John and the rest were so keen on dying, but he had no plans of dying in a strange wretched world.

Without wasting a beat, Shinon summoned Darkwing and Shadowfang to keep the Necrognasher busy while he put some sense into his teammates’ minds.

"I have a plan," Shinon firmly said. "I’ll keep the Necrognasher busy, but you all must return to the settlement. Regroup, gather reinforcements, and come back. That’s the only shot we have at defeating this thing."

Lina was the first to object to Shinon’s plan. "That’s reckless... even for you!"

"I know the risks," Shinon replied with a confident smile. "I know what i’m doing. If we all stay and fight, we’ll only be putting ourselves in greater danger, and in case all of us end up dead, who will inform the settlement about this monstrosity?"

"Fuck! He’s correct," John scratched his head. "We must inform the Phoenixes about this thing... whatever it is. At least, then they’ll be prepared to face the monster if we fail."

"Fine! Go ahead and steal my spotlight," Nix smiled wanly before lightly punching Shinon. "We’ll get back here as soon as possible. Try to hold on till then."

"I promise I’ll be careful," Shinon replied, turning to face the undead. "Go, now!"

The crew pulled away slowly, their eyes never leaving Shinon. They turned and began their retreat towards the settlement with heavy hearts as they doubted Shinon would survive the ordeal.

Once they left the crematorium, Shinon took a long breath, bracing himself for the conflict ahead.

He had planned to confront the Necrognasher alone because it would allow him to gather information about the creature as well as complete the testing of the ’Silent Death’ grenade.

"That should be enough," Shinon mumbled, and immediately his shadow companions backed off.

With his targets vanishing, the Necrognasher let out a bone-chilling roar. The ground trembled as the creature rushed towards Shinon, who dropped a grenade before slipping into his shadow to stay protected.

"Let’s get you seared, nice and slow," Shinon mumbled before disappearing into his shadow. "Darkwing, Shadowfang, go!"

While slipping inside the shadows, he instructed his shadowy pets to resume their assault as Shinon thought the shadow creatures would be safe from the grenade’s effects as they weren’t made of organic matter.

"I hope I’m right..."
