"I can’t get a clear shot!" Selena exclaimed. "That fucker is too damn tall!"
"Just keep shooting. I’ll find a way to pierce through the shield," Shinon replied and immediately lunged at the treant.
Shinon gripped his Blade of Chaos tightly, its darkened steel humming with energy. He knew the treant’s thick bark would be challenging to pierce, but he was determined to find its weak points.
Selena readied her crossbow, her skilled hands expertly loading a bolt. Her Battlemaster abilities granted her exceptional precision and power, making her a deadly force in battle, but only if her shots were hit.
"Selena, get up that tree!" Shinon called out. "I’ll draw its attention. See if you can take shots at its eyes from up there!"
"Got it!"
Selena nodded and sprinted towards a nearby tree with agile grace. She leapt into the branches, finding a strategic vantage point to shoot from. Meanwhile, Shinon dashed towards the treant, his shadowy weapons forming around him like a protective barrier.
The treant let out a deafening roar, shaking the ground with fury. It swung its massive limbs at Shinon, who nimbly evaded each strike. However, the tremors followed by the attacks were something Shinon had not expected to feel.
As the treant’s strikes continued to rain down upon him, Shinon couldn’t help but be intrigued by its formidable strength.
A wicked grin spread across his face as he muttered, "I really like your strength. Don’t mind if I have a taste for it myself."

As the messages from the system flashed before him, Shinon felt an immense surge of power coursing through his veins. His strength and agility increased exponentially, making him feel like he could take on the world.
With newfound confidence, he welcomed the treant’s strikes, using his enhanced reflexes to deftly dodge each attack. However, merely avoiding the strike will not help Selena take a shot.
"Let’s try ’it’ then."
Gritting his teeth, Shinon willed the energy within him to mimic the treant’s skill. A faint glow enveloped him as he activated [Fortification]. His body seemed to strengthen and harden like he had become as resilient as the ancient tree.
"Don’t you dare fail me now..." Shinon mumbled to himself before raising his voice. "Selena, get ready; this is your chance!"
Shinon believed he could withstand the treant’s blows more effectively with this newfound power. He planted his feet firmly, meeting the treant’s strikes head-on with a newfound strength.

Just before the treant’s arms could collide with him, Shinon’s muscles bulged with newfound strength, and a surge of power coursing through his veins.
The treant’s attack raised dust and smoke around them, obscuring Selena’s vision. Even then, she wasn’t worried about Shinon because she knew he was a level-headed man when it came to combat and wouldn’t put himself in harm’s way until and unless he already had a plan about it.
As the dust settled, she saw Shinon had not disappointed. He held onto both of the treant’s arms with a triumphant grin, preventing its deadly assault and, simultaneously, taking away the treant’s ability to defend its eyes anymore.
"Shoot it, now!" Shinon’s voice rang out, and Selena immediately sprang into action, nocking arrows into her crossbow and firing them relentlessly at the treant. Each arrow found its mark, puncturing the treant’s bark-like hide and injuring one of its eyes.
Meanwhile, Shinon called forth his shadow weapons, skillfully manipulating them to strike the treant from all sides. Half a dozen shadowy blades and spikes pummeled the treant, continually injuring it.
The treant roared in fury and pain, but its attacks grew weaker as Selena’s arrows and Shinon’s shadow weapons chipped away at its strength.
"Keep it up, Selena!" Shinon encouraged, his voice filled with determination.
Selena nodded, her eyes locked onto the treant’s vulnerable spots. She adjusted her aim and fired more arrows, each shot guided by her unwavering focus. But even that wasn’t enough to bring the bastard down.
Without warning, a massive vine burst out of the treant’s back and took the shape of a hand as it aimed towards Selena.
Selena’s eyes widened, realising too late that she had become the treant’s new target. She barely had time to react as the treant’s hand closed around her, trapping her in its grip. She struggled to break free, but the treant’s grip was unyielding.
"Selena!" Shinon cried out, his heart pounding in his chest.
He knew he had to act fast to save her, but letting go of the treant’s arms wasn’t an option either.
He channelled his shadowmancy powers, and from the ground, shadowy tendrils emerged, entwining themselves around the treant’s legs, attempting to immobilise it. But the treant’s strength was overwhelming, and it broke free from the shadows’ grasp with a mighty heave.
"Fuck! What do I do now!?"
Shinon’s mind raced, searching for another way to rescue Selena. He looked around and spotted a massive fallen tree nearby.
"This could work," he mumbled and summoned whatever strength he had left to raise as many shadowy tentacles as possible and lift the massive tree trunk into the air.
He directed it towards the treant, sending it crashing into its side. The impact momentarily stunned the treant, loosening its grip on Selena.
Seizing the opportunity, Selena wriggled free from the treant’s grasp and leapt to the ground. She landed gracefully and joined Shinon once again.
"That was fun!" Selena joked as Shinon handed her a crossbow made of shadows.
"Oh yeah? Maybe I should have left you in its hands a while longer." Shinon rolled his eyes. "Now, please, focus!"
"Aye, aye, captain!"
