Chapter 128: Waiting For Rescue (1)
"The hell are you doing there!?" Lova suddenly screamed as she saw Shinon beside the car, staring at her thighs.
"In case you didn’t notice," Shinon pointed at the insectoid with his thumb. "That guy kicked me all the way here, but I’m glad it did! What the heck do you think are you doing while I’m having a tough time out there?"
"It’s... none of your business! Now go back out there! Argh!"
Shinon sighed and got up, dusting off before looking at the insectoid. It was clear the insectoid before him was different from the one Lova had defeated.
The one Shinon had worked on did not have pincers or a spiky shell. This meant either the insectoids had been evolving rapidly or that different types of insectoids lived in one nest... like how ants operated in a colony.
"I sure as hell hope it’s the latter," Shinon mumbled as he plunged his hands into his shadow. "I was saving it for the dungeon, but I don’t think I have a choice now."
With a swift and practised motion, Shinon retrieved the hoodie armour he had crafted earlier from his shadowy storage. The black fabric shimmered with otherworldly energy as he held it. Without hesitation, he swiftly donned the makeshift armour, its reinforced sections fitting snugly against his body.
The transformation was remarkable. As the armour settled over him, the aura of shadows seemed to intensify. The fabric merged seamlessly with his form, enhancing his agility and granting him extra protection against the insectoid’s onslaught.
The insectoid let out a deafening screech, charging toward Shinon with lightning speed. Its razor-sharp claws glinted ominously, poised to strike. Shinon swiftly sidestepped the initial attack, evading the creature’s vicious swipe.
"You’ll have to do better than that!" Shinon taunted, his voice laced with confidence.
He extended his hand, calling forth his shadow tentacles. The dark tendrils snaked through the air, swirling with lethal intent. With a surge of power, Shinon commanded the shadows to strike.
The shadow tentacles lashed out, pushing the creature away.
Shinon took advantage of the creature’s momentary vulnerability, launching swift, precise strikes. His fists connected with the insectoid’s exoskeleton, each blow reverberating with bone-crushing force.
The insectoid retaliated, unleashing a flurry of attacks with its powerful limbs. Shinon skillfully dodged and weaved, narrowly avoiding the deadly strikes. His movements were fluid and graceful, a dance of survival amidst the chaos of battle.
"Too slow!" Shinon exclaimed as he hit the insectoid with a shadow-enhanced punch to send it backwards.
But Shinon still needed to be finished. Drawing upon his inner strength, he unleashed a barrage of attacks. Each punch and kick carried a devastating impact, weakening the insectoid with every blow.
Fueled by rage and instinct, the insectoid lunged forward with renewed ferocity. Its massive jaws snapped menacingly, threatening to tear through Shinon’s defences. But Shinon was prepared.
Instead of defending or dodging, Shinon let the creature bite his armoured forearm. Shinon did it to test the durability of the armour, and he was pleased to know the creature’s bite failed to put a single scratch on him.
Shinon tightened his grip around the creature’s neck, preventing it from breaking through his armour. With a swift and calculated motion, he forced the insectoid’s mouth to open wider, exposing its vulnerable insides.
"Your armour may protect you from the outside," Shinon whispered coldly. "but who will protect your insides?"
With a surge of energy, Shinon channelled his shadow powers into action. His arm encased in the resilient Beetle’s Armour, he allowed his shadows to surge forth, extending into the depths of the insectoid’s mouth.
As the creature attempted to bite down harder, its jaws forced open by Shinon’s grip, the shadows slithered inside. Dozens of shadow tendrils coiled and twisted, entwining with the creature’s fleshy insides.
With each passing moment, the shadows tightened their grip, exerting a vice-like force upon the insectoid’s inner anatomy. freēwebnovel.com
The creature convulsed, a grotesque symphony of writhing limbs and anguished screeches. Its attempts to dislodge Shinon’s arm grew feeble as the shadows continued their relentless assault.
The creature began punching Shinon’s chest to try and get away, but Shinon held his ground, refusing to release his hold.
The insectoid’s struggles gradually weakened, its movements becoming sluggish. Shinon sensed its life force waning, knowing victory was within his grasp.
With one final surge of power, he commanded the shadows to tighten their grip, their spectral tendrils tearing through the creature’s insides.
A sickening crunch reverberated through the air as the insectoid’s body finally gave way. The creature’s form collapsed in on itself, a twisted amalgamation of the shredded exoskeleton and oozing innards.
Shinon withdrew his arm from the wreckage, the pain in his chest subsiding.
"That was... disgusting," Shinon sighed in relief, covered in the insectoid’s blue blood.
With disgust, Shinon wiped the creature’s ichor from his arm and inspected the damaged Scarabite Armour. It had withstood the forceful bite, proving its durability and effectiveness.
However, there was a scratch on one part of the shell, but it only took two durability points off the five thousand the armour initially had, so it didn’t matter.
As the dust settled and the remnants of the defeated insectoid lay scattered across the ground, Lova rushed towards Shinon, her eyes wide with disbelief and anger. She approached him, her voice filled with frustration.
"What have you done, Shinon?" Lova’s voice quivered with anger and concern. "We were supposed to capture it alive! We needed it for the samples!"
"Oh... so that’s what I forgot about..." Shinon replied. "In the heat of the battle, I lost sight of our mission. I thought killing it was the only way to ensure our safety."
Lova clenched her fists; her frustration was evident. "But we needed it alive! How are we going to study biology now? How will we gather the necessary data?"
"We wouldn’t be having this conversation if someone wasn’t busy doing-" Shinon gestured a sign using his middle and ring finger as if he was shoving them into something.
"Argh! Just get in the car!" Lova huffed and puffed, running back inside the car.
