Chapter 117: First Quest: Blade Of Shadows (4)
A sense of curiosity ignited within Shinon as he examined the inscriptions. They held some significance, some hidden knowledge that could aid him in his task. But without understanding the language, the meaning remained locked away.
He furrowed his brow, his mind working tirelessly to recall any information that might help him decipher the ancient script. Memories flashed before his eyes, and he suddenly remembered the intricate art adorning the corridor walls he had traversed to reach this chamber.
With a determined stride, Shinon retraced his steps back along the corridor, his mind focused on the patterns and symbols he had observed.
"There they are!"
The walls seemed to come alive as he examined them, his fingertips lightly tracing the intricate lines.
After what felt like an eternity, Shinon’s eyes widened in recognition. The patterns on the walls mirrored the symbols of the inscription. It was as if the ancient language was woven into the fabric of the labyrinth.
A spark of realisation ignited within Shinon’s mind. The hammer shown in the images looked familiar to him. It then clicked him... the hammer shown in the inscriptions was the Mastersmith’s hammer! ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
A surge of excitement coursed through Shinon’s veins as he connected the dots. The inscriptions on the hammer, the symbols below the statues—it all came together. The hammer held the key to awakening the stone guardians.
"I knew there was more to this than meets the eye," Shinon murmured to himself, his voice laced with anticipation.
He grasped the Mastersmith’s hammer tightly, feeling the weight of its power in his hands. With purposeful steps, Shinon returned to the chamber where the statues stood.
"This better work!"
He raised the hammer high above his head, his muscles taut. A surge of energy flowed through him as he brought the hammer down with a resounding strike against the inscriptions beneath the statues.
As the hammer connected with the ancient symbols, a brilliant flash of light erupted from the point of impact. The inscriptions on the hammer seemed to come alive, the writing flowing like molten iron, filling the empty spaces with a fiery glow.
The chamber was filled with an ethereal hum, and Shinon watched in awe as the stone guardians began to stir.
"It’s alive!" Shinon yelled in comic relief because he knew things would get tense.
The once-immobile statues shifted, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. The stone seemed to come to life, transforming into sinewy muscle and imposing armour. The stone guardians stood tall and majestic, fully awakened from their dormant state.
Shinon’s heart swelled with astonishment and reverence for the ones who managed to create such great mechanics. He had no doubt that he wasn’t anywhere near as talented a blacksmith as he had thought himself to be.
He had much to learn and unlearn to be able to give birth to such creations. However, it wasn’t the time to admire the statues but to destroy them.
The chamber reverberated with an air of anticipation as Shinon squared off against the mighty stone guardians. He gripped the Mastersmith’s hammer tightly.
"I don’t think my sword would be of any use against them," Shinon mumbled as the guardians closed in on him. "Thankfully, I have some experience using the hammer as my weapon after bashing all those walkers before."
With each step the guardians took, the ground seemed to tremble beneath Shinon, echoing the impending clash of steel against stone.
The stone guardians approached him unwavering, their stony exteriors gleaming in the dim light of the chamber. Their eyes glowed with an otherworldly luminescence, fixated on Shinon as if anticipating his every move.
Undeterred by the apparent impenetrable nature of their armour, Shinon took a deep breath, steadying his focus. He knew he had to find a weakness, a way to overcome their formidable defence. With a resolute determination, he launched himself into the fray.
Swinging the Mastersmith’s hammer with all his might, Shinon struck at the stone guardians, his blows delivering thunderous echoes throughout the chamber.
The impact reverberated through his body, the vibrations resonating in his bones. But to his dismay, the stone statues remained unyielding, their armour absorbing the force of his attacks.
Sweat trickled down Shinon’s brow as frustration tinged his features. He knew he needed a different approach, a strategy that would allow him to exploit their weaknesses. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
He circled around the stone guardians, his gaze focused on every inch of their formidable armour, searching for any vulnerability as the guardians mercilessly launched attacks on him with their stone words and massive legs.
"Wait, is that a crack?" Spotting a hairline fracture in the stone guardian’s chest plate, Shinon’s eyes lit up with hope.
With a burst of agility, he lunged forward, striking at the crack with the hammer. The blow landed true, causing a resounding crack to echo through the chamber.
For a moment, it seemed as though Shinon had found the chink in their armour, the weakness that would lead to victory. But his hopes were scrambled as the crack quickly sealed itself, the stone guardian’s armour repairing the damage with supernatural swiftness.
"What the hell...?"
Gritting his teeth, Shinon refused to be discouraged. He had come too far to back down now. Adjusting his strategy, he focused on agility and precision, darting in and out of the stone guardian’s attacks.
He targeted joints and exposed areas, striking with calculated precision. Yet, no matter how many blows he landed, the stone guardians’ defences held firm as if they were made from diamond, refusing to crack or break.
The battle raged on, each clash of metal against stone punctuated by grunts of effort and the relentless determination in Shinon’s eyes. He refused to let the seemingly insurmountable obstacle defeat him.
Shinon knew there had to be a way, a hidden weakness he could exploit. But with each passing moment, his iron will was being chipped off.
As time passed, the weariness began to set in, and doubt started to creep into Shinon’s mind... was it even possible to defeat the guardians?
