Chapter 112: Ascension Quest (2)

Shinon sat in his dimly lit workshop, his heart pounding with anticipation as he accessed the holographic display of the system.

His eyes scanned through the list of ascension quests that had appeared before him, each more daunting than the last. As he read through the tasks, his excitement turned to crestfallen disappointment.

Please proceed to complete at least three of the following listed tasks:

1. Soulforge Trials: Enter the ancient Soulforge, a mystical furnace hidden within an underground catacomb. Endure a series of trials that test your combat prowess and blacksmithing skills.

Task: Successfully complete the trials to unlock the secrets of the Soulforge and gain the ability to craft weapons and armour infused with the souls of defeated zombies, granting them additional undead-slaying properties. (Suggested Level: 42) freewёbnoνel.com

2. Blade of Shadows: Venture deep into the zombie-infested ruins to retrieve the fragmented pieces of the Shadowsteel, a legendary material known for its dark and potent properties.

Task: Retrieve and reforge the shattered pieces into a formidable weapon capable of cleaving through the toughest zombie hordes. (Suggested Level: 40)

3. Graveyard Guardian: Travel to the haunted cemetery and defeat the Warden of the Grave, an ancient and powerful undead guardian.

Task: Obtain the essence of the Warden to imbue the crafted gears with protective enchantments that ward off undead attacks. (Suggested Level: 41)

4. Heart of Darkness: Journey to the heart of a decaying city overrun by zombies and locate the Abyssal Crystal, a rare and potent gemstone infused with dark energy.

Task: Extract its essence and use it as a core component to forge an amulet that enhances the wearer’s shadow manipulation abilities. (Suggested Level: 43)

5. The Crimson Serpent: Navigate through treacherous swamps infested with undead horrors to find the lair of the Crimson Serpent, a massive zombified creature with venomous fangs.

Task: Defeat the serpent and collect its enchanted scales, which can be used to forge a set of impenetrable armour with heightened resistance against undead attacks. (Suggested Level: 45)

Note: The exp points gained by the user during the trial will be stored separately and granted to the user when the Ascension Quest is completed.

Different markers have been added to the user’s map for them to freely access the trials of their choice. Also, these tasks must be completed without any outside assistance, and taking help from allies will result in severe consequences.

"The Soulforge Trials... Blade of Shadows... Graveyard Guardian..." Shinon muttered, his voice heavy with disbelief. "These quests are impossible!"

He slumped back in his bed, his mind filled with frustration. The thought of facing god knows awful trials, retrieving fragmented pieces of Shadowsteel, or defeating powerful undead guardians seemed insurmountable challenges.

"The system must be mocking me," he muttered bitterly, running a hand through his hair.

Shinon had hoped for quests that were challenging yet achievable. He had expected obstacles to test his skills and determination, but these quests felt like an unattainable dream.

The weight of his responsibilities as a dual-class Shadowsmith bore down on him, and he couldn’t fathom how he would ever be able to fulfil these tasks.

Shinon’s eyes lingered on the holographic display, the words of the quests mocking him silently. A wave of frustration washed over him, but he took a deep breath to calm down.

"I’m just one person," he said, lost in deep thought. "How can I possibly accomplish all of this? It’s a death sentence. No... there has to be a way, or else the system wouldn’t offer me such ridiculous tasks."

Despite the overwhelming odds, a part of him refused to accept defeat. Shinon had faced adversities before, and he had come out stronger. He thought these quests were meant to push him beyond his limits, to test his true potential.

"Wait... is the difficulty high because I am a dual-class?"

Simultaneously, a realisation dawned upon him, shedding light on why the Dungeon Divers in his world actively avoided acquiring a dual-class as their initial class.

The reason became evident: the challenges posed by Ascension quests escalated significantly for those who possessed multiple classes.

Shinon’s mind filled with understanding as he considered the implications. Having more than one class undoubtedly enhanced his abilities and widened his range of skills.

However, it came at a cost—a more significant burden to bear when facing the system’s trials and tribulations.

The Ascension quests were designed to push adventurers to their limits, testing their skills, resilience, and strategic thinking. With each class added to one’s repertoire, the difficulty of these quests amplified.

The system sought to ensure that those who embarked on the path of Ascension would truly earn their progress.

A tinge of regret coursed through Shinon’s thoughts as he pondered the decisions that had led him to this point.

He had embraced the opportunity to become a shadowsmith, enticed by the prospect of combining two distinct classes. The power and versatility it granted him were undeniable, yet now he faced the consequences of his choice. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Yet, despite his realisations and the mounting difficulties ahead, Shinon’s resolve remained unyielding. He was not one to back down from a challenge, especially one that would test the limits of his capabilities.

Shinon saw this as an opportunity for growth—a chance to surpass his expectations. Yes, the Ascension quests might be more arduous due to his dual class, but he saw it as a chance to redefine what was possible.

He would be the exception, the one who defied the norm and proved that mastery of multiple classes was not a hindrance but an advantage.

He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the challenges ahead. While the tasks seemed impossible, Shinon knew that giving up was not an option. He had come too far, fought too hard, to let a few daunting quests break his spirit.

"I may not know how to accomplish these tasks just yet," he muttered, his voice filled with newfound resolve, "but I won’t let them defeat me. I’ll find a way."

He continued, "I’ll train my butt off if I have to, but I will succeed, which reminds me... I still have to test my abilities. Thankfully, I have just the place meant for it."
