"I like you because you were able to take something from Scarlet and then you did well with creating moments for her name to be in the papers. You’re better than most who’ve tried to take from her. We’ll always be good friends," said Naomi.
"So, I don’t have to pretend with you. Good," Beth said as she wasn’t in the mood to fake that she liked Naomi. She had only liked seeing Collins turn their backs on Scarlet. "I would prefer that you not comment on what she had worn before me."
"Oh come now. It is evident you like dressing up like her. You’ve done it a few times, which was a joke for some of us. If it’s Jack doing it because he misses Scarlet, at least do a better job hiding it. Women like me can’t help to point it out," Naomi said, laughing as she walked away from Beth.
"I do not dress like her!" Beth argued. When had she ever dressed like Scarlet? It couldn’t be helped that they might have gotten their dress from the same shop. Almost all women in the town wore something that another had.
"You don’t even notice when you do it. If I were Scarlet, seeing you be this way would be flattering. We can’t have that. We can’t give her something to enjoy. So, please stop trying to dress up like her. It will upset me if I see her enjoying you being obsessed with her," said Naomi.
Seeing Scarlet be ruined couldn’t end just yet so Beth had to think and stop trying to be Jack’s ex. She could never be that.
Beth didn’t enjoy Naomi continuing to claim that she was dressing up like Scarlet. Why would she want to be dressed up like the woman whose husband she stole? It was nonsense.
"Oh dear. Looks like I upset you, Beth. Don’t take my words too seriously," Naomi said to calm Beth’s anger. She couldn’t have Beth losing her anger right now when others were around. "Planning a wedding while pregnant is tiring. Then getting close to his side of the family," Beth revealed then bit her lip as she had said too much.
"Don’t worry. Every woman in town will understand what you are going through now with having to get close to your family. It was such a headache when I had to be around Preston’s family for the first time but now I am quite close to them."
Beth felt a little relieved to hear this as now she could believe Jack when he said this would end when they got married. If it was normal for all the other women to experience this then it wasn’t exactly that Jack’s family were picking on her.
Beth wouldn’t think that of Diane yet as it was evident that the woman hated her but the others might have been playful.
"Was Scarlet’s time meeting with that family bad as well?" Beth asked as it had been bugging her. Did they dare tease Scarlet or did they treat her like royalty because of her wealth?
Naomi had to think about it. She wasn’t close to Scarlet so she didn’t know what it was like for her to meet with Jack’s family. She could not remember Preston speaking about it was just as unlikely that he knew.
"Oh, she had a terrible time too. It doesn’t matter who you are," Naomi lied.
Naomi wished to know what exactly Beth had to endure but Beth couldn’t be so stupid to give her something to gossip about. Still, she had to try. "What are they having you do? Buying whatever they want?"
"Things that I will keep quiet about. Do not take me for a fool, Naomi. If you want your husband to continue having business with mine then you should continue to shower me with compliments while hating me in secret," Beth advised Naomi.
It was foolish for anyone to think that she was stupid after what she had done. Not just any woman could have taken Jack from Scarlet.
’Then again, I have played that role because it is the woman he wants,’ Beth thought.
Beth had to hide her true self because Jack wanted a woman who would just listen. She had to be everything that Scarlet was not to please him and with that act, women like Naomi saw her as a fool.

"Though that would be good entertainment for you, it would do nothing for me. I can already hear all the talk about a woman who used to be a mistress daring to invite the ex-wife to see her wed the man she stole. Unless you have good ideas, do not open your mouth," said Beth.
Naomi was the stupid one here in Beth’s opinion.
"You are lucky that you amuse me, Beth. I wouldn’t have let anyone else speak to me this way for so long and get away with it. I am still a Collins and you’ve yet to take Humphrey as your name. Don’t get so ahead of yourself just yet. The child you are carrying doesn’t mean much. It is the ring," Naomi said, looking at the one on her finger.
Beth didn’t need Naomi’s advice. She was close to being a Humphrey so why shouldn’t she speak her mind now? "I have given Jack what he wanted most in the world. My child is more valuable than any ring."
"I suppose. You are in luck to have quickly gotten his child. We were starting to joke that Jack was not able to perform the act. Seems it was truly Scarlet unable to conceive. This will follow her until she has a child of her own. There is a man who wishes to be with her, but I don’t think I can bring myself to introduce them. He’s older," Naomi revealed.
Robert was disappointing with his attempt to court Scarlet but luckily for Naomi, there were plenty of creeps in town who were stupid enough to want to approach Scarlet. One of them should succeed at ruining Scarlet.
"I can’t get any of my husband’s peers to show interest in her. She’ll have to settle for a man who is close in age to her father. Exciting isn’t it?" Naomi asked.
"What about the man who is around her now? Isn’t it embarrassing for her to settle with a bastard-"
"That man is still Lord Kingsley’s son and there are plenty of rumours going around that he might become the heir. She cannot have him. So, do you have any friends who might be able to take his attention away from Scarlet? I can help them get near Ian," Naomi proposed.
Ian was a bastard but he was worth a lot and Scarlet shouldn’t have a man like that on her side.
"I do know someone he wouldn’t be able to resist," Beth answered.
