"Mister grumpy pants. I can hear you sighing from back here. You rejected my offer to have my guards join me which meant that Harry would have been here and you will have hell to pay if anything happens to me during this. I have a very concerned princess waiting for me," said Scarlet.
"You will be fine. Like your father says, I have a gun, a shovel, and a good spot for anyone who tries to disturb us during this trip. He gave me good advice and a long lengthy call that I was not to mention to you. He is lovely," Ian said, not afraid of Leonard.
"He is quite serious with what he said. My mother has hidden many of his guns though my father knows her hiding spots. I am forbidden to speak to him about any designs of new guns we are making. I do not understand how the men in my family fell for women who do not like guns," said Scarlet.
"Opposites attract. I look forward to finding out what we are opposites in. I know that you like to work every second of the day while I do not. You enjoy the company of pets and I do not."
"It almost makes me reconsider our relationship since you are not fond of pets. It is no wonder why Sunny has not warmed up to you yet. She can feel the hate you are trying to hide," Scarlet concluded.
"I do not hate pets. I have never seen the reason to have any by my side as I was constantly moving. There was never a town that I stayed in for too long. What pet would enjoy always having to be on the move? And what if someone hates me so much that they target my pet?" Ian asked.
"Sunny has faced being the target of someone’s anger meant for me. Tried to step on her tail. I didn’t have to do much as Sunny returned the anger. I wonder if that is why she is not so welcoming to anyone she is not familiar with. Don’t you wish you could understand them?" Ian didn’t share the same interests as he imagined there might be a few or many curses coming from the cat.
Scarlet looked ahead where she could see Ian through the small glass window behind him. "Maybe it would have been a good idea to disturb Harry and have him drive us. It is a bit lonely back here. Why didn’t you want to take one of our automobiles? It would have been far faster to get where we are going."
"Now you want a driver when we are out of Lockwood already. A carriage brings less attention to us. A couple suddenly showing up in an automobile is a dead giveaway that you are someone with money. It is only Lockwood where you see someone driving those regularly. I don’t want to be disturbed," said Ian.
"Is that all? Alana was coming up with many theories for why you want us to be alone and one of them was that you want to kill me. What if you were to have some hatred for the Collins and you planned to court me so it would be easier to get me alone? It was quite funny," Scarlet said as she got to watch Alana panic.
"I’ve never been around your family in my youth to hate you. I just want us to be alone without you worrying about someone," Ian replied.
Scarlet folded her arms. "It is not only me who is concerned about others. You spent all morning thinking about Victor. Wanting to know if he departed safely. He’s with a group that can protect him better than the palace guards protect the king. Victor is going to have the time of his life. Perhaps come back with a sister-in-law for you."
"He better not," said Ian. He needed Victor to be selective with the woman he picked to be his wife or Ian would stay true to his word that he would not visit for dinner. freёwebnovel.com
"And what will you do if he does? Make him choose between you and the woman he likes? I’m a little curious because I think he would pick you. I don’t see Victor ever wanting to give up having you act as his older brother. All you do is hit, scold, or tease him. What is so fun about that?" Scarlet wondered.
She didn’t have any siblings so maybe that is why she didn’t understand it. Her family was big so Scarlet never thought her parents needed to have another child. She didn’t have to compete with anyone to take over most of her family businesses.
When Scarlet looked at Alana’s situation with her siblings, it didn’t seem fun. Still, Ian and Victor seemed to enjoy it.
"Ian, is it fun to have a sibling?" Scarlet asked.
"There’s someone constantly trying to leech off of you, bother you by wanting to be near and speaking too much. Most days are not fun. Why?" Ian asked, turning to try to look inside at Scarlet.
"If you are right there is nothing wrong with me, I might consider wanting two children. One is enough but I am starting to wonder what I might have missed out by being an only child. My- Ian!" Scarlet yelled after he abruptly stopped the carriage but continued his way shortly after. "Are you not paying attention to where you are going?"
"Scarlet, I would prefer that you wait for when we arrive before you tell me how many children you would like. It was already hell to sit out front here without you. Just give me an hour before you speak of this again," Ian said, regretting it even more now that he didn’t have someone to drive them.
Scarlet looked out the window at the few homes they were passing. She knew that town to be a small quiet one. It felt like they were still in a Lockwood because of the similar styles from the towns being so close but with the roads not having many carriages going by, Scarlet knew they were no longer in the busy town.
"Are you taking me to the home that was given to you?" Scarlet asked, referring to the woman who once took Ian in.
"No. Her son still lingers around there and we wouldn’t have peace. I am taking you to the first home I bought when my business started to see a profit. I was close to Lockwood at the time but not ready to return," Ian answered. "This is where I planned to settle down when my plans were over."
Now Scarlet’s arrival in his life had Ian planning to settle down in the town he hated.
