Chapter 244: Late night talk (1)
"I’m sorry for making everyone get so dressed up and then have to return home. You could have had your carriage packed for your trip tomorrow or be with your grandmother before she leaves with Victor. I am sorry," Alana apologised once more.
"Alana, if you say I am sorry again I am going to lose my mind over those three words. We are all glad to be leaving. Dawson is most likely thinking of getting more dinner, Ian wants to sleep over, and I need to rest my feet after the damage Ian has done. We have all thanked you so enough with the apologising," said Scarlet.
"Sorry," Alana folded her lips after her mistake.
"It’s good that you changed your mind. Seeing what you had to pick from makes me feel better that I do not have to join you in looking for a suitor though there were a few who could not hide their gazes. I don’t ever want to witness again how much of a headache it is to court anyone," Scarlet said, looking out the carriage window at the estate coming up.
"All you would have to do is marry me when I ask and then you never have to think about courting anyone again. Isn’t that right princess?" Ian asked.
Alana glanced at Scarlet who didn’t react to what Ian said. "I don’t want to be brought into that. Please leave that between the two of you."
"Smart answer," said Scarlet.
Scarlet covered her mouth just as she had to yawn. The night was still young but all the work she did to get it out of the way was catching up to her. She needed a good night’s rest before she left with Ian tomorrow for their trip or to sleep during the ride.
Alana reconsidered their plans since Scarlet appeared to be tired. "I will be fine if you wish to retire to your bed right away. Preparing for the party alone was tiring."
"No, I can stay up with you for a little and then go to bed. You look too pretty now to get changed and go to bed. I can give you an hour of my time to walk around the estate looking pretty. Are you blushing?" Scarlet asked, noticing a change in Alana. "All those men at the party and I am the one who made you blush. Maybe I should write a book on courting."
"It would become quite popular just from your name and many would be interested in knowing if you have written about things you did with Ian. It could be the first job I do with you," said Alana.
"You have decided to continue studying to work for me?" Scarlet asked as she figured that plan was done with Alana trying to find a husband.
"I want to put getting married on hold until there is a man worth thinking of getting married to. I won’t worry about Luke trying to have me do an arranged marriage. Dawson has convinced me that Luke shall not reach me while I am in your care,’ said Alana.
Scarlet glanced at Dawson who was looking out the carriage window. She was curious about what happened when the two went off alone. Alana was ready to find a husband when she came but then she went off with Dawson and changed her mind. Something was happening between the two.
’They better figure it out by the time I get back,’ Scarlet thought. She didn’t want to see any of them acting odd around each other. ’Did she get to freshen up?’
Scarlet knew Dawson well enough to trust he would do his job first before trying anything with Alana at a party where there were people whose mouths were like a river. Alana and Dawson were free to do as they wanted but they should try to avoid bringing attention themselves in the beginning.
Scarlet stopped thinking of the two when she felt Ian hold her hand. She couldn’t think of Alana for long when she had her problem with this needy man.
"Scarlet, since I won’t see you for a few days, how about you and I have a sleepover like we used to do?" Alana suggested.
Ian frowned as Alana’s suggestion ruined his plans for the night. He would have Scarlet all to himself for the next few days and more if he could convince her to stay out of Lockwood longer, but that didn’t mean he wanted to share her now.
"What happened to the plan of all of us having fun?" Ian asked, trying to get them to stick to the first plan. frёewebηovel.cѳm
From experience, Alana would get tired quickly so she would go to bed, Dawson was going to leave since he didn’t need to guard Alana which meant Ian got to be alone with Scarlet.
Alana smiled, trying not to give in as Ian begged her with his eyes to change her plan. "I am only now realising how long I will be without Scarlet. It is only fair that I am with her tonight. You cannot be so greedy to want to take her with you and have her tonight as well."
"I can be and I am," Ian replied, taking pride in his greediness.
"I will join Alana in her bedroom. You can find something to occupy your time with, Ian. Maybe have a drink with Dawson but not too much as I don’t want to deal with either of you in your drunken state in the morning. I will see you in the morning," Scarlet said, opening her door just as the carriage stopped.
The mere fact that she wasn’t sending him on his way should be enough to make him happy.
Scarlet hadn’t thought about how little time she had spent with Alana during her rush to complete her work.
Scarlet exited the carriage and made her way up to the front door where Florence awaited her. Scarlet took off her gloves and handed them to Florence. "The party went well, Florence. No need to worry about if there was trouble for us to return so early."
Florence relaxed as she feared Scarlet’s night of fun had been ruined by someone.
"Please get a nightgown from my closet and have it sent to Alana’s room. Along with something sweet to drink and if there are a few treats left over. Pastries and fruit but not too much of it. Ian will be using my room tonight so be sure not to linger there," said Scarlet.
"Understood," Florence replied.
Scarlet stopped by the door to wait for Alana to reach her. "I will do my best to stay awake. Good night, Ian."
Ian didn’t find it to be a good night but to not be a poor sport he answered, "Good night."
