Chapter 242: Starting rumours (3)
"Nag? I believe I have been offering you good advice. I won’t do it anymore since you think that I am nagging you," Dawson replied, liking that she was now laughing instead of frowning. "As your loyal subject, I would like for the princess to marry when the time is right."
"We can’t always get what we want, Dawson. Along with not troubling Scarlet, I want to marry before my brother finds a husband on my behalf. He already has another suitor coming to the palace. I do not want to marry anyone who is old or who shall put their hands on me," said Alana. freewёbnoνel.com
"My brother is not going to marry me off to a man who shall love me. I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds a man already with another lover and children just so he could make me as he thinks my mother was," Alana said, knowing Luke was so twisted.
"I didn’t know the king was such an idiot," Dawson commented. "I have not joined Scarlet in the room when she had to speak to him."
Alana smiled as many didn’t know Luke was so childish. "He can hide it well at times as long as you don’t anger or embarrass him. My other siblings are a little bit better but they fear Luke getting upset with them for speaking to me. I am not angry with them." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Alana knew it was scary to have a king coming after you whilst living in the palace.
"Maybe I should hold this off and wait for Luke to lose interest in me. I only hope he will not push the arranged marriage any longer. If he does, I might grab the nearest man and get married. I don’t care how the marriage would be. I just don’t want my husband to be picked by Luke."
"I need a man like you," Alana said, looking over her shoulder at Dawson.
"I am honoured that you have fallen in love with me but I suggest you set your sights somewhere else," Dawson replied.
"I have not fallen for you. How did you come to conclude that is what I meant? Are you sure you are not the one who yaps?" Alana questioned, shaking her head at his answer. "Your voice annoys me. I meant a man with your personality. I have seen you be unafraid of who stands before you. Besides Scarlet. Everyone but Ian is afraid of her."
"I need to find someone who can stand up to Luke. Not just to protect me but to protect themselves. Someone who is not interested in using my title and someone who treats me like a normal person at times. It is quite boring when others won’t speak to me because I am the princess. I want to have normal friends as well," said Alana.
Scarlet’s estate was the most normal she had ever felt. Dawson and many of the maids listened to her when she asked that they comfortably speak to her.
Life in the palace wasn’t as wonderful as many believed it to be. Alana knew she might be seen as crazy for wanting a simple life without her title.
"I’m afraid you won’t find anyone like me as I am one of a kind. Maybe you can come close. Continue to study to work with Scarlet and forget about getting married for now. The king would need to make it through Scarlet’s gates to take you from her," Dawson reminded Alana.
Alana knew that but there was one problem. "Scarlet is leaving town with Ian either tonight or early in the morning. Once Luke finds out about it, he will demand that I leave the estate and return to the palace. As hard as I may try, I am not like Scarlet to put up a fight against him. I wouldn’t want there to be conflict when she is away."
"If the king has some sense, he will not come to her gates while she is not there and Scarlet already ordered us not to let anyone in. Florence will be there to care for you and I will still be your guard. The king will not get you," Dawson promised.
The king would have to get his hands on Alana over Dawson’s dead body and that wasn’t something Dawson saw happening anytime soon. This kingdom would be without a king before he died and let Alana be taken.
"You are confident," Alana noted. "It is expected of Scarlet’s guards. Then, I shall trust that you will protect me. I will give you full permission to throw my brother somewhere just as you did with Jeremy. He must be so embarrassed," Alana said, trying not to laugh.
Jeremy deserved it for what he said to try to hurt her.
"Did you not consider him or did you only say that to hurt his feelings?" Dawson asked, hoping it wasn’t the latter.
"I didn’t consider him from the beginning. He was nice to me when I was in the palace but he is Luke’s friend. I try to stay away from Luke’s friends but I will not be rude and ignore them when they address me. Besides, Jeremy brags about being Luke’s friend too much," Alana said, sighing as she recalled all the times he bragged.
She continued, "If Scarlet were to ever be close to Luke, I would not have been so close to her now. I was lucky that she liked me more than Luke. Ryan as well. It was once considered that Ryan would marry my sister. He was quick to deny it."
"And what about you? If you asked, Ryan might have married you to get you out of the palace," said Dawson.
Alana placed her hands behind her back. She did not love Ryan to consider him. "I have not told Scarlet but Ryan offered to kill Luke to set me free. Luke is playing with fire when it comes to the border and as the leader, Ryan might kill Luke if his people are put in danger."
’That doesn’t sound so bad. Do you like your other brother?" Dawson asked as he would be willing to help Ryan if she did. A new king sounded good right now.
"He has his bad days but he is better than Luke. If you don’t mind, I would prefer to look at the garden and enjoy the fresh air. The only thing I miss about the palace is the beautiful gardens. I don’t care where I end up after I move out of Scarlet’s home. I only need a pretty garden. Thank you," Alana said, accepting Dawson’s hand to step down.
"You do know when to be a gentleman," she teased him.
