Chapter 215: Safe place (3)
"Must you do work now when it is time for you to be in bed?" Ian asked, watching Scarlet from where he lay on her bed.
"I have been with my family all day and have not looked at work. Then with the trip we are planning to take, I must hurry to do as much as I can so I will be completely free then. It is a benefit for you, is it not?" Scarlet asked as she was doing this for him as well.
"It is a benefit for the future me but present Ian doesn’t like seeing you. We should please the Ian that is with you now and go to bed, Scarlet. I am waiting patiently but that patience is starting to run out," Ian said, tempted to lift her and bring her to bed.
"This isn’t the time I normally go to bed and I am almost done. It is just this last paper I need to look over and sign. Should I bring Sunny in for her to keep you busy?" Scarlet asked, looking over her paper to see Ian frown. "Do not frown. Sunny makes for a wonderful sleeping companion as long as she doesn’t lay on your face."
"Since I have not convinced her to like me as yet, please keep Sunny where she is now. I have noticed that when I enter a room she is in, she runs away. I don’t know whether she is scared or annoyed with me," Ian said, hoping it wasn’t the latter.
"Scared? She has been here long before you so why would she be scared? You are probably disturbing when she wants to rest so she keeps moving. That is all. I hope," Scarlet added. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Scarlet put the last paper down and started to braid her hair so it would be out of the way. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You have never braided your hair before bed so why are you doing it now? I like the other way," Ian said, secretly planning to undo the braid once she got in bed.
"The length is starting to bother me. I might cut it soon-"
"No!" Ian interjected. "I like your hair as it is now."
Scarlet was surprised to see him be so concerned about her hair. "It is my hair, Ian. It does not bother you like it does me. It will grow quickly. I will cut it to my shoulders. Do you think my beauty comes from having long hair?"
Scarlet sat down beside Ian on the bed. Already his fingers were working to ruin her braid.
"No, but I have become quite used to getting my fingers lost in your hair. It will be disappointing to find my fingers slipping out of your hair easily."
"It is not like I am going bald, Ian. I will cut it a little lower to compromise for your weird interest. You are lucky that I had not cut it before we met. I always cut it during the time the weather is a little warm and let it grow during winter. I wouldn’t have this problem now if I had cut it then," said Scarlet. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
She was too busy with the divorce to think about cutting her hair.
Scarlet touched the ends of her hair. Cutting her hair always made her feel like a new person. Sometimes she changed up her clothing to match what she felt with her hair. She had a new beginning with Ian so now was a good time to cut some of her hair and let it grow again.
Ian pulled Scarlet to have her lay flat on the bed. "Then it is good that I met you when I did. I get to enjoy your hair as it is now. You should cut it if it bothers you that much. It means I get to be around to watch it as it grows back."
"What was the point of me having a contract with you?" Scarlet asked as it was quickly forgotten. Now that she brought it up, she remembered needing to burn it as it was no longer of any use to them. "We only used it once to attend a garden party."
"We wouldn’t have needed it if you would have admitted that you had some interest in me at the beginning. It will serve as a funny memory of how we started. Have you destroyed it yet or are you holding onto it because you don’t trust me?" Ian asked.
Scarlet looked up at Ian. "It is not that I do not trust you. I simply forgot about it. Is that not a good thing?"
"I suppose so but I would feel better if it no longer existed. Unless you want to save it to show our future children. I can agree with that. Should we make copies? When you pinch me, it doesn’t hurt," Ian said, ignoring the pain he felt on his arm.
"I am going to burn it in the morning and then have Florence throw out the ashes. No one will ever get the chance to see it," Scarlet answered.
Ian rolled onto his back, taking Scarlet as he did so to have her straddle him. "We are not to speak of children with others but can we do that now? I would like to continue with the act of practising how one is made. Just for knowledge purposes."
"Ian, I am not falling for that. You wish to have a child before you ever ask to marry me?" Scarlet replied.
"I believe I made my plans to propose evident today but you wouldn’t give me hope for what your answer would be. I am not to ruin the surprise, remember? Weddings can be small and planned quickly," Ian said, his hands moving down from her waist to find the end of her night dress. "A child takes some time to come into this world. Shouldn’t we continue to prepare now?"
’The more you speak about a child, the more concerned I am about being the one to bring another you into this world. You are quite mouthy and I happen to prefer silence. Please keep your hand from under my dress, Ian. I will not be doing anything with you while my parents are here," said Scarlet.
She moved his hands from under her dress and kept holding them. "Where will we be going for the trip? I must know what to pack for it."
"It is a surprise, Scarlet. You only need to show up. Let me be the only one bothering with the arrangements. You must get used to me taking care of you sometimes," Ian said, planning to have her not lift a finger for anything concerning this trip.
