Chapter 200: Standing up (4)

"Want to scream?" Ian asked.

Victor shook his head, his attention fixated on the window. He was trying to keep his anger at bay since it wasn’t like him to blow up like he did.

"It might make you feel better. It’s concerning to me how you are shifting in your seat. I will give you one chance to scream now. Don’t do it without warning to startle the driver. Though, I wonder how Scarlet would be if she heard about me being in a crash," Ian said, wanting to try it.

Victor couldn’t think of his troubles for a moment since he got the feeling that Ian wanted to get them hurt just so he could be treated by Scarlet. "Love does turn people into fools. I’m already sick enough, Ian. Don’t hurt me."

"Then, you should get out. I want to see how she would be if I were hurt. Would she bring in a doctor or tend to me herself?" Ian wondered.

Ian could see Scarlet slapping him if he didn’t want to drink medicine. She wasn’t the person to have time for foolishness.

Victor couldn’t believe what he was witnessing with Ian laughing as he thought about Scarlet taking care of him. He finally got his brother back but Scarlet was turning him crazy. "I want to get out before you try to kill us. Are you going to Scarlet now?"

"No. I was with her all day yesterday. To show up today would be too much. I am willing to offer some of my time to you. It’s either that or going to my businesses," said Ian.

"You’re willing to be around me when I ruined your plan? You were to stay by father’s side and he was so eager to have you around. I should have just taken my mother to her room-"

"And then I would have stopped speaking to you right then. You did the right thing by stepping out of the middle. Your parents shouldn’t use you as the person to calm down their fights with each other. They need to figure their problems out. Hopefully, it means that they will tear each other apart now that they are alone," said Ian.

"Then you wouldn’t find out where Noelle is. That’s the only reason why I wanted to stay quiet. Now, I don’t have a place to stay and you aren’t by father’s side. He won’t let you get back to his side easily even though he needs you. He’ll like to see you beg. He always does," Victor said, resting his head on the carriage door. freewebnøvel.coɱ

Victor didn’t know where to go from here. He couldn’t return home soon as it would only lead to another fight and he didn’t have it in him to keep arguing. It was exhausting and as cowardly as it made him look, Victor preferred to avoid fights. To do what he could to stop something from growing bigger.

"Why do you look so pitiful? I am opening my doors to you so don’t worry about where you will stay tonight. And some of my clothes should fit you but if they don’t, you can go buy what you want and put the payment in my name. I think it is somewhat normal for older siblings to spoil the younger ones, right?" Ian asked as this was foreign to him.

Normally it had always been Victor trying to shove something in his hands and Ian trying to get away because he knew Layla was going to accuse him of stealing what belonged to Victor.

Victor slowly turned to Ian. "You will let me spend your money? Father cut me off but I still have money. Honestly, I thought of packing my things to leave home before so I slowly put aside money. I only didn’t think far ahead to buy a home. Can I still spend your money-"

"No," Ian quickly answered. "Think of me opening my doors to you as spoiling you. You look to be in a better mood already so I don’t have to worry about you. And don’t worry about my plans being ruined. I will go back to that estate but at a later time." freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Ian saw today how he lacked the patience to be around Hank and Layla. Rather than play the role of the son wanting to be near his father, he was just going to torture the two. He only needed a night when he could get inside without worrying about someone spotting him for the town guards to be called.

"Good," Victor smiled, happy that he hadn’t ruined Ian’s plans. "Since we have some time to waste, do you want to go for a drink with me? I could use my first drink."

Victor tried to avoid drinking because of his health but after the day he had and it wasn’t past noon yet, he should have a drink. "Can I be taken off your banned list now? I won’t cause you any trouble."

"I doubt it but I will have your name moved. You should only have one drink. We need to find a way to start curing you from whatever you ate. Someone in this kingdom should know about poisons. Your doctors didn’t know what to look for since no one assumed it was something you ate. You should be able to live a long life."

"That is quite different from what I wanted years ago," Victor said, thinking of his weakest time in life. "You know, since they couldn’t find out what was wrong with me, they kept poking around with all kinds of things. Wanting to use any method to find out the cause of my sickness in case there would be more people like me. It hurts a lot."

With no answers, Victor didn’t think he would live long. Rather than be hurt whilst trying to find a solution that wasn’t going to come, he thought of asking to be killed in a way he wouldn’t feel it.

"I am happy with the decisions I made. I could have missed out on our reunion. I think I need one and a half drinks. We can share one glass. I won’t keep you long since you must have work to do. I don’t mean to pry but when I woke up this morning, I saw a maid with cat toys. Do you have a pet?" Victor asked as he had thought the cat was Scarlet.

Ian was impressed by Victor’s ability to go from a sad topic to speaking about a cat. "Scarlet has a cat that I am trying to impress. Nothing has worked yet. Maybe the little devil’s spawn needs a blood sacrifice."

Victor nervously laughed, "Well, I do not volunteer to do it."
