Chapter 182: The truth (1)
Victor was nervous as he waited for Ian to come to him. He had spent the last two hours deciding whether to go home so he wouldn’t have his mother suspicious for why he was out so long or coming here to tell Ian what he knew right away.
In the end, he decided to find Ian first to share what he learned. Anything could happen between now and the next time he got the chance to be away from his parents. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Victor worried about Ian being angry that he was here so late or angry that he had someone look into where Ian was staying. He visited the first home Ian was said to have but didn’t see anyone so he came here.
"I don’t have a gift for his home. I should have waited," Victor said, thinking it was wrong to be here. It was so late that this would only make Ian hate him more. "I should go."
"Not after you have already gotten me to come down here. What is it?" Ian questioned, walking outside to be alone with Victor. As always Victor seemed on the verge of breaking down. It was a walking panic attack.
Victor turned around to face Ian, excited to see his brother. His excitement was replaced with worry when he saw Ian’s chest.. "Your chest. You need to be looked at."
Ian touched the marks Scarlet made. He was proud to flaunt them so he didn’t bother to wear a shirt to the door. "It is fine. I have a cat who likes to hurt me."
"A cat? I thought you didn’t like having pets," said Victor.
"Well, things change. Let’s get to the point of why you are here. My...cat is waiting for me," Ian said, continuing to hide that Scarlet was here.
Victor caught on to what Ian was doing. He didn’t like Ian taking him for a fool. "You could just say that Scarlet is here. I am not young for you to have to hide that you are here with a woman and I won’t speak of her being here. I am not one to gossip."
"That is until your mother wants to know something,’ Ian replied.
"I am not under my mother’s control anymore. I have stopped her from trying to run my life. It is hard to get her to be used to it, but she will. I am here because of our deal. I found out something about Noelle," Victor revealed.
Ian was surprised that this was the reason for Victor’s visit. He hadn’t meant for Victor to seriously look into what happened since it was obvious Victor was going to find out that his mother was involved. Ian had yet to believe that Victor would give up on his mother.
"I spoke to one of her old friends and learned that Noelle was worried that my mother was putting something in the food. She overheard my mother’s plans and even tested it herself. The butler said the last time he saw Noelle, my mother went after her. I would like to be positive but I am certain my mother killed her," said Victor.
Ian didn’t need Victor to tell him that Layla was the culprit. He had already figured that out. What he wanted to know was where they had placed Noelle and how they killed her. He was going to make their deaths far worse than what they had done.
"You want to be my brother so bad that you would reveal this about your mother? I didn’t think you would ever have it in you," Ian said, still uncertain about Victor. He couldn’t fully trust that Victor wouldn’t run back and tell his mother what he learned to then help her clean up her trail. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Victor always went running back.
"I know what you think of me but you have never once understood my side. To have to bear with her putting all her dreams on me or having to put up with her abuse and smile because that was just a habit she was trying to fix. I am not trying to place myself as the victim," Victor said as he knew it wasn’t fair considering the abuse Ian endured.
"I just want it to be known that my life wasn’t so perfect. My mother was planning to slowly poison you and I ended up becoming sick. I still cannot believe that I am this way because of my mother," Victor smiled, laughing at how his mother’s plan backfired.
"She poisoned you? How would you have eaten food..."Ian trailed off as the memories of Victor visiting the cottage came back. "You fool. I told you to stop coming to see me."
"But I wanted to play."
"And then you ended up sick because of your mother. You should have listened to me. Not only did you make trouble for me but you almost got yourself killed. I suppose that is a good reason for you to turn on your mother but I still don’t trust you," Ian confessed.
Even after Layla poisoned him, Ian still placed Victor as a son unable to go against his mother’s wishes for long.
Victor clenched his fists as this wasn’t the reaction he expected. "I know that I got you in trouble when we were young and I didn’t stand up for you, but I tried my best to find out what you needed to know. I tried to find someone who could tell me about Noelle and this is how you treat me?"
Victor couldn’t hold the tears back. It was disappointing that no matter how hard he tried they failed to be close. "What more must I do for you to accept me as your brother? Why do you hate me so much?"
Victor was pushing himself to pretend to be well more than ever because he wanted his father to start letting him be more involved so he could gain the power to help Ian. His body hurt yet he pushed through to help Ian and it was all for nothing.
Why couldn’t they just be brothers? Victor was willing to forget his parents and just have Ian. It was always more fun to be around Ian. Ian never forced him to be something he wasn’t.
Victor found it difficult to breathe and he didn’t know if it was because he couldn’t handle that Ian was dismissing him, the truth about his mother being the one to kill him was finally getting to him, or his body was hurting because he had been ignoring the signs that he needed to go to his doctor.
Ian didn’t answer because he had already explained it. There wasn’t a point in getting close when he was here to kill Layla and his father. No matter what Victor thought now, he would not stay close to his mother’s killer.
"Thank you for sharing what you know but you should be- You!" Ian exclaimed, moving to catch Victor before he fell. "You fool," Ian said as Victor’s body was burning up. Why would he come here when his body was in this state? "Hold on," Ian said, trying to get a good hold of Victor to carry him inside.
Victor couldn’t hear what Ian told him but he found comfort in knowing that Ian wasn’t leaving him to suffer. It finally felt like his older brother was taking care of him.
