Chapter 173: Gone (2)
Ian smiled as he was thinking of doing it without Scarlet telling him. He was ready for when the gates would open completely for them to go through. He almost wanted to reach over to cover Scarlet’s eyes so she wouldn’t have to witness the ugly mess that would be Jake’s death.
Jack tried to get around the guards as the gates opened. "Scarlet- You!" He yelled, jumping out of the way before he could be hit. That bastard with her was crazy for getting so close to hitting him. "I’m going to kill that bastard."
Jack smacked away the hand offered to him by his driver. It was already pathetic that he had to jump to save his life. Did his driver want to have him look more pitiful by accepting his hand? "Get out of the way and follow them," he ordered the driver.
Scarlet couldn’t be going anywhere good with Ian at this time.
Jack only needed a moment to speak to her to apologise for what he had done. She should know that he had gotten rid of Beth so Scarlet wouldn’t be bothered by her anymore and he had a child they could raise.
"Don’t," Jack heard one of the guards say.
They were still annoying as he remembered. They were always more interested in protecting Scarlet than him even though he was her husband Scarlet let them get away with speaking too much. They were merely guards so they had to stay in their place.
Away from the gates, Scarlet looked back to check that Jack was not causing trouble for her guards. It wouldn’t be fair for them to have to deal with such a headache.
"Just a little more to the left and I could have hit him," Ian said, disappointed with himself. "It wouldn’t have killed him but I could have injured his legs."
"At the very least, we are away from him so stop your pouting. It will ruin the evening if you keep thinking of him," Scarlet said, facing forward as the gates were far out of sight for her now. "If he does something stupid, more than he already has, the guards will finish the job. He is on my land."
They didn’t have to worry about Jack from here on.
"Would it be wrong if I go back to shoot him?" Ian wondered.
"We are already away so I don’t want to turn back. I don’t want to hear anything he has to say," Scarlet replied.
Whether it was about starting over, Beth and her lies, or something else, Jack could keep it to himself.
"It is a bit frightening how you can spend years with someone and suddenly just not know them. I don’t know him well either. This side is new to me. You better not change or you shall be the one having to jump out of the way and I won’t miss. I’m an excellent driver," said Scarlet.
"Trust me. I don’t doubt that if you wanted me dead, you wouldn’t miss me. Luckily," Ian said, looking away from the road to find Scarlet’s hand to hold. "I shall be this way. Annoying you when you need-"
"Please don’t," Scarlet pleaded.
"- a little fun in your life and being a good lover to grant all that you want," Ian finished.
"I wouldn’t mind if you end the first part," said Scarlet.
"All of my antics are part of the reason you like me, Scarlet. I cannot end it now. I don’t want anything about you to change. Well, if you would initiate more things between us, that would be lovely. Turns out that you are quite the seducer," Ian said, thinking of how bold she was last night. "I would love to work for you."
"You have your businesses to look after," Scarlet answered, confused as to why he would want to work for her. They didn’t need to be around each other so often and Ian seemed to be doing well for himself to not need any more work.
"Just think how it would be for you to boss me around. I bet that would be even more seductive."
Scarlet covered her face with her left hand. Of course, it would be something like this. Why was she even surprised when she should know that this was what he would think of?
Ian continued. "When we can enjoy each other’s company when we are alone."
"I don’t fool around when I work," Scarlet stopped his dream. That was all his thoughts would ever be as she would not be so careless to be intimate with him where her employees were. She had a feeling that he was thinking of fooling around in her office at the hotel and not in the one on the estate.
"You’ve never had anyone who made you want to do it in places where you could get caught easily. I won’t allow anyone to see you-"
"I won’t allow it to happen so keep that thought to your dreams," Scarlet interjected.
After one night some sort of beast was unleashed inside of Ian.
"So, am I allowed to dream of doing naughty things to you? You started it first so I shouldn’t be scolded," Ian teased.
Scarlet started to think about whether it had been a good idea to spend the night with Ian at his home. She couldn’t kick him out as she pleased because it was his home and she couldn’t easily leave since he was taking her there. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"What have I gotten myself into?" Scarlet wondered, thinking herself a fool for not thinking this through.
"You’ve gotten yourself into a wonderful relationship, Scarlet. Enjoy it. Now, hold tight because we seem to have a stalker," Ian said, glancing at the mirror to see the carriage far behind them.
Did Jake not have any shame? To follow them just so he could speak to a woman who didn’t want to see him was a new low.
Ian couldn’t help smiling as it was fun to see Jake spiralling as the realisation that Scarlet was gone hit him harder. While this was fun, Ian had an evening he did not want disturbed so Jake had to find something else to do.
Scarlet gripped her seat as they were going faster now. She would bet her favourite gun that Ian had to be still sulking over the fact he didn’t hit Jack so they wouldn’t need to do this now.
She didn’t want Jack to show up at Ian’s home as it made her feel like she brought trouble to Ian’s life so she stayed quiet, letting him be further ahead than Jack’s carriage.
’I need to get rid of him,’ Scarlet decided. Dorothy was given plenty of warning and while Scarlet respected her, she couldn’t take any more of what Jack was doing now.
