Chapter 166: What I want (4)

Scarlet woke up after the sound of something dropping close by startled her. She opened her eyes only to be greeted by a dark room so she believed she had woken up early. There was still time to rest before breakfast and then she could go down to see what damage was done to her estate.

The slightly cold air touching her exposed back caught her attention and it was now that Scarlet remembered how she went to bed last night. She turned to look at Ian who wasn’t holding her close to him any longer and found the bed empty.

Before she could sit up to try looking for him, she heard, "I am trying to get the fire back going again."

Scarlet found the source of what had woken up her as Ian was throwing wood in the fireplace. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"I am yet to get used to the weather in Lockwood as it has gone from warm to chilly overnight. The wind is high and it looks like there might be rain. I suggest that you stay inside," Ian said and then threw in the last log he found. "Rain will be good to fix what burned last night."

"How long have you been awake for?" Scarlet asked as she didn’t notice when he got out of bed. She was normally very aware of movement on her bed but she continued to sleep until he dropped something.

"Not long. It was a challenge to peel you off of me. If not for the room going cold, I would have stayed in bed with you," said Ian.

Scarlet didn’t believe him that she was the one doing any kind of clinging. "You didn’t need to do that. The estate will soon be warmed up. Florence would instruct the maids to quickly warm up the estate once she notices it is cold. Florence would also be at the door already if you were not here."

Wanting to see just how early it was, Scarlet got off the bed and went to the window which was now covered by two large curtains. She pushed them aside and to her surprise, it wasn’t early. It looked to be nearing noon which meant she had missed breakfast.

It was rare that she slept in and knowing that she wanted to be awake for breakfast, Florence would normally come to push back the curtains and help her get dressed. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Scarlet turned around to look at Ian who was the very reason why Florence had not come to wake her already. Luckily, Scarlet already decided to not work too much today as she wanted to have a picnic with Ian and Alana.

Scarlet looked out the window once more and judging from the high wind and the sky turning dark, they would need to have a picnic in the garden inside the estate.

"What damage have they done?" Scarlet wondered, tiptoeing to try to see where the damage was. She wasn’t dressed appropriately to be going out on the balcony to see better.

"What are you doing?" Ian asked, his arms going around Scarlet’s waist. "Someone might see you if you go too far."

"Only a bird. Why would any of my guards be looking at the window?" Scarlet questioned, standing flat on her feet now that Ian was behind her.

"I don’t want the birds to see either. We might need to let the cat go after them," Ian suggested.

"You won’t be in luck since it has been some time since I saw Sunny kill something. She is very aware that she is spoiled and does not need to be catching anything even for the fun of it," Scarlet replied. "I like not waking up to one of her gifts in bed with me."

"Then my gun-"

"I will not let you shoot one of the birds on my estate simply because you think they saw me as I am now. It might be one of the birds we feed," Scarlet said, stepping away from Ian’s hold.

"Why are you feeding birds?"

"I’m told my great-grandmother loved animals so her husband built a large cage. The birds were freed some time ago but few came back to the cage so I have the gardeners put some food in there. Do not shoot any of the birds. I am begging you," said Scarlet.

Whenever her grandfather came to the estate, he liked to spend his time out there which was part of the reason Scarlet didn’t have the cage removed. She was starting to consider surprising him by putting a few birds that once used to be there, in there again.

"I am going to get dressed for lunch and then see what I can do about this picnic you spoke of. I am quite comfortable right now so maybe we can choose another day to see your new home. If that is alright with you," Scarlet said, not wanting him to feel that they always had to be here. "We can go to your home if you like."

"Scarlet, it is fine. I made that suggestion before the weather became like this. Your estate would be better for a picnic which we should no longer call that. This gives you a reason to have to visit me at some point to make up for this," Ian said, not feeling any kind of way that she wasn’t going to his home.

Ian benefitted the most from this arrangement since he got to stay at her estate longer and she had to come to his home later.

"Right. I should have known that you would have liked that. Excuse me while I get ready for the day. Alone," Scarlet said, placing her hand on his bare chest to stop him from following her. "I have had enough of you for now."

"Have you really? The same person who said only once then couldn’t keep her hands off of me? I’ve come to believe that again is your favourite word and that you are quite quick to be embarrassed in the morning for the way you acted at night," Ian said, enjoying the said embarrassment right now.

Maybe Scarlet just had another side to her at night and in the morning, she liked to deny everything.

Scarlet didn’t have a way to deny what he said as it was true. "I am going to get dressed. Get back to fixing your fire which is already going out."

"Scarlet, I find that intimacy in the morning is a good way to start a day," Ian quickly suggested before she could reach the bathroom door.

"Then you should use your hand to please yourself," Scarlet replied. She needed a break from Ian before she seriously considered letting him spend another night here.
