Chapter 138: Trap (4)
Scarlet smiled, but not because she was going to accept his offer. She moved from straddling Ian and sat beside him. "Please get dressed for dinner. I will leave you to do it in private."
"Scarlet," Ian called, frustrated that she would leave him like this. "Do not leave."
"You cannot always get what you want," Scarlet said, being quick to stand so he could not hold her hand. She turned to enjoy the sight of him lying annoyed that she was leaving him.
Once in a while, Ian deserved to be teased.
"I will not make you any tea," Ian threatened.
Scarlet laughed as it was one of the most childish threats she had ever received. "Oh, what a threat. I don’t know what I would do without tea. It is not like there are other things for me to drink in the estate. Stop bothering me, Ian. You won’t like it when I get back at you."
Scarlet opened the door and walked out. He had to think twice about his little games from now on.
"My lady. I brought ointment for Mr. Kingsley," Florence said, handing Scarlet a small container.
"I used the one in the room so another must be placed in there. And please, address him as Ian. He doesn’t like feeling like his father. Do not disturb him now as he is getting changed," Scarlet said, giving Florence back the ointment. "First thing in the morning, please call for the supplier for ointment to come to me."
"The palace doctor?"
"No," Scarlet shook her head. "The gentleman who came by, telling me he is just as good as the palace. I’ve forgotten his name but a way to reach him was written down."
"I have it," Florence replied. She thought it was useful so she saved the paper given to Scarlet. "Should I stop the guards at the gates from letting the ointment from the palace come in?"
"There won’t be anymore from the palace. That agreement between us and the Castros cannot be trusted with the likes of Luke on the throne. It is best to get a supply from elsewhere and if he does well, I might invest in the business. What?" Scarlet asked as Florence smiled and tried to hide it.
"Nothing, Milady. It is always exciting to see you speak about business. Dinner will be ready in an hour. Will Ian still want to make tea? I can have a pot put on right now," said Florence.
Scarlet smiled, still thinking of the threat. "He said he won’t do it, but you can put it in a pot. I need to get out of this dress and get ready for dinner. Please keep an eye on our guests."
"Of course."
Scarlet left the first floor and went up to the second floor to go to her room. Ian was going to come out of that room looking for revenge so she was not going to be around for a while to have him do it.
"Sunny," Scarlet greeted the cat lying around on the floor. "If that man passes by here, do me a favour and bite him. The cook will have a nice fish for you if you do."
"And here I thought that the cat just didn’t like me, but all along, its owner was putting a hit out on me."
Scarlet looked away from Sunny to Ian who she hadn’t heard following her. The new shirt she gave him was on but not completely buttoned up. "She doesn’t like you. I am only using it for my benefit. You are not properly dressed, Ian. Used another room to get finished." ƒrēewebnovel.com
Scarlet didn’t like the way he looked at her. "If you come any closer, I will have her trouble you."
"It might be my lucky day because your pet looks uninterested in what you are saying. We were not finished speaking, Scarlet. Which one of these rooms belongs to you?" Ian questioned, needing to make use of it for a moment.
Ian tried to close the space between them but Scarlet kept walking back. He was fine with this game of cat and mouse. There was only one way for Scarlet to go and there was going to be a dead end at the end of it.
"For your own good, do not come any closer," Scarlet advised Ian. This was not going to end the way he saw it. Scarlet couldn’t believe the betrayal of Sunny who watched them and then ran off like this was no longer entertaining.
Scarlet stopped since she was right in front of her bedroom door. Ian was so close that should she try to open the door and close it after going inside, he might be able to squeeze himself through.
Scarlet waited for him to get closer and then grabbed his arm, catching him by surprise as she flipped him.
Ian groaned when he hit the floor. "You weren’t joking about that."
Scarlet stood over him, proud that she was still able to do it with ease. She had to send a letter to her grandmother to let her know. "Of course not. You should listen to my warnings. I had a long day. I need to soak and get dressed for dinner. You can lay on the floor for as long as you want," she said, opening the door now that he could not follow her.
"I think you’ve done something to my back. I need your help to get up," Ian said, looking to her for help.
"My grandmother was the one who taught me this trick and each time she trained against my grandfather, do you know what he said when he was in this position? She wounded him and he needed her help to get up. It was always a trap to get her to be near him. Tell me, why should I be a fool and fall for your trick?" Scarlet questioned.
Ian smiled as his plan was already uncovered. "I’ll make the tea I promised if you come here for a moment."
Scarlet looked down the hallway to check that there were no maids present to witness the way Ian was lying on the floor. He reminded Scarlet of a star. "I would rather not join you on the floor. You are going to confuse my maids, Ian. Please get up."
"How rude of you to throw me on the floor and then not help me up-"
"If you get up by the time I close the door, I will welcome you inside," Scarlet offered.
It was a funnier sight to watch how someone who claimed to be injured got up without any help. He rushed even though she didn’t attempt to shut the door. "I fear you are a bit crazy, Mr, Kingsley."
"You say that like part of it isn’t your doing," Ian replied.
Scarlet tugged on his half-buttoned shirt and pulled inside the room as she walked back. He had earned it after how much he made her laugh during the short time he was here. Normally, she spent the day trying to get rid of a headache, but it was a welcomed treat to be having fun.
